HT1443 OSX 10.5 will not recognise iPod touch 5

Is there any way to get iTunes on my older MacBook ( running OS 10.5.1.1, the highest os i can run on this model) to recognise my iPod touch 5 (iOS 7).
I cannot upgrade iTunes to the latest version as it requires OS10.6 minimum.
Is there a work around?
Thanks

If it's actually a MacBook(not a PowerBook or iBook) and has at least 1GB of RAM, it can be upgraded at least as far as 10.6.8.

  • PC will not recognise Ipod-have tried everything!

I have brand new 4gp ipod mini. Uploaded software-when it said to connect ipod I did. when it got to the screen on the uploding wizard thingie that asked about formatting the ipod the "next" button was not highlighted, so with no other option, I ticked the "tick here if you want to install software without ipod connected" and carried on.
PC will not recognise ipod as either a piece of hardware or in itunes.
It is connect via a USB 2 port which is on a USB 2 card. The ipod does charge so that bit is working. The PC is about 4 years old and has Windows XP.
When i plug into an old USB 1 port the PC recongises the ipod, but says the port cannot support it (assume as it is too slow)
I have tried the following things
    1. remove all ipod/itunes software and restore-using both the software downloads from apple site as well as the software which came with ipod
    2. resetting it
    3. putting it in disco format when plugged into PC.
Plse can someone tell me what I shoudl try next? I have looked through all the discussion threads and apple site and cannto see anything that seeems to fit this problem. I am assuming it is related to the USB.....but could be very wrong!
    thanks

    Hi,
I have EXACTLY the same problem, my computer is even the same age as yours! I re-installed etc etc, I downloaded XP service pack 2, I have a 4GB ipod mini, I reset it and reset it again, I phoned Apple support, not a lot of help considering they told me to doexactly what I had been doing already, told me to try on another computer and like you I don't have any other to try on, I tried other devices in the USB 2 port (also a PCI card like yours) and they work fine, and the ipod charges. I went back to the Apple store to swap it for another one and the guy there said that it sounds as though my computer is only recognising the ipod as a external hard drive instead of a music player. When I plug it in I get a little bubble saying found new hardware mass storage device, and then anopther bubble says there was a problem installing hardware and the device may not work corretly (which clearly it doesn't!). So he told me to find smeone who is really good with windows (where....?) to sort out my computer so that it recognises it as an ipod and not an external hard drive, aparently there is a way to do this. I do have someone coming to check it oput tonight, if they can solve the problem then I will let you know how they do it!
Sorry can't be any more help but I suppose it's good to know there's someone else in the same situation!!!!

  • Windows PC not recognising iPod Touch / ipad

Recently I've run into this intermittent problem.
Sometimes when I connect my iPod or iPad to my PC Windows simply fails to recognise that my devices are connected. To the point where the iPod won't charge because the connection is not there.
There a bunch of things I thought it might be. Faulty cable, bad drivers, windows, bad connector on both devices. The thing is its quite random and a simple reboot solves the problem every time.
In any case I have reinstalled windows with no effect, so I am wondering if its an issue with the Apple drivers that come with the latest iTunes as it is a fairly recent issue.
Anyone else had an issue like that?

  • Computer will not recognise ipod and crashes computer

Working on windows xp, I have reset the ipod but it will not come up on the side bar, therefore I cannot download music, instead it just turns off the computer.
I am lost somebody please help!!!!!!!

Sorry I haven't a clue re the computer it was made to my spec.
Fair enough. Okay, we'll try analysing minidumps of the crash with Windows Debugging Tools to see if that can tell us which component or driver is causing the issue.
Open "My Computer", and see if you can find a directory called C:\Windows\Minidump. (That's where minidumps usually go on a PC, so long as the Systemroot hasn't been set to some other folder.)
If it's been collecting minidumps, there should be files in there with names like "Mini(number-numbers).dmp"
(If you have "Hide filename extensions for known file types" enabled in Windows, the ".dmp" extension may not appear on the dump files. The numbers in the file name will be different for each minidump, if minidumps are present.)
Once we've tracked down some minidumps, we can have a go at analysing them.
    1. Download and install the Windows debugging tools from here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/debugging/installx86.mspx
    2. Go to Start, All Programs, Debugging Tools For Windows, Windbg
Once you open Windbg, you will presented with a blank screen.
    3. Click on "File > Symbol File Path". Here you will enter the symbols
path. Symbols are needed to effectively debug.
    The path will be:
    SRVc:symbolshttp://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols
    4. Enter in this path and click OK. Now, go to "File > Save Workspace"
so that your symbols path is saved for future use.
    5. Go to "File > Open Crash Dump" and load the file.
(An "Open Crash Dump" screen will appear ... doubleclick "My Computer", doubleclick "Local Disk", doubleclick "Windows", doubleclick "Minidump", and doubleclick on one of the minidumps in there.)
You will/should get a message to save base workspace information. Choose no.
Now you will get a debugging screen. It takes a little bit to run it,
as the symbols have to be downloaded as they are needed.
After the "bugcheck analysis" part of the screen comes up, look for the component that seems to be causing the crash. (It'll say "Probably caused by" ...)
Let us know the precise name of the component. (Include any file name extensions like .dll or .sys.)
If you can, have a look at several of your crash dumps. Are all the crashes being caused by the same component? If not, could you let us know the names of the various components being cited in the various crash dumps?

  • Computer will not recognise ipod when connected

This is very frustrating as i have only had my ipod nano for a week and its just won't work. I have loaded the software and everything seems fine until i connect the ipod, then the hardware is not recognised. I have tried exactly the same thing on 2 of my friends computers and it has worked fine without any problems. Therefore i think its something to do with my computer. Iv'e tried loads of tips from the apple site and suggestions but none have worked. Any other clues?
      Windows XP

Try reading my post "Is your IPOD very slow to connect and eject and it appears to lock-up?". Although it is framed as a question, it is actually a description of a problem and solution I found yesterday.
I've already received two emails informingme that it has fixed the problem for other people.
    Hope this helps,

  • Itunes will not recognise ipod nano video in itunes 9.0.2.25

Hi, running windows 7 64 bit and itunes 9.0.2.25. works well with old ipod and ancient shuffle but new ipod video generates 'can detect but not identify ipod'. On an XP machine the ipod works fine with the latest version of itunes.
I've tried the five steps, I've tried staring up with all services disabled and if I do that I can get the ipod detected in windows just fine. Soon as I start itunes services it disappears from windows and creates error as above.
Please any help welcome as otherwise I've bought my wife an engraved bit of metal and plastic for her birthday!

    Ta Charlie!
Okay ... you don't have a p55 chipset, so that rules out one possible hardware/BIOS issue. You don't appear to have the nVidia ECHI USB chipset, so I believe that rules out the trouble with Windows 7 with 4-GB-or-more-RAM not working well with USB drives or devices. (There's a hotfix available from Microsoft for that, but it wouldn't be relevant in this case.)
So I'm thinking it might be a problem with the Apple ipod driver. (The older iPods won't be using it, which would explain the discrepancy between the old and new ipods when it comes to recognition.)
Plug the nano in. Now in your Start menu, right-click "Computer" and select "Manage". Click "Device Manager".
Expand "USB devices". Can you see an entry in there for the Apple iPod driver? If so, right click on that and select "Uninstall". Click OK. (The uninstall may take a while, leave it to its own devices for a while.)
After the driver uninstalls, unplug the nano. (Wait until it has finished saying OK to disconnect on the nano screen, if nanos do that nowadays ... I'm testing this procedure using an older Classic.)
Now plug the nano back in. This should reinstall the driver.
Do you get proper recognition now?

  • Itunes will not recognize Ipod Touch

Ok, so I tried to install Itunes 8 when it first released the other day. I received the BSOD, I ended up reverting back to the last known working configuration for windows. So back to Itunes 7.7.1 or whatever. Plugged my Touch in, and it would not recognize at all. I checked in the hardware config and it seemed that the drivers were not installed for the Ipod. I found out about the HP printer fix, and unplugged my HP printer. I installed Itunes 8, works fine now.
BUT, I plugged my Ipod Touch in, and I get a new hardware wizard, installs the drivers, and asks what I want to do with it, pull pictures off? It's acting like an external drive. Itunes won't recognize it though, no beeps stating it was connected, just won't recognize it is there.
Is there anything I can do to fix this?

The first five of those I actually tried. I should check the services menu, and I uninstalled Itunes, but did not restart afterwards. So when I reinstalled, everything was still there. I will try doing that tonight after work.

  • Itunes does not recognise ipod touch

  • Reinstalled Itunes for Windows will not recognize ipod touch 3rd generation.

Itunes for Windows and PC will not recognize my ipod touch 3rd generation.  Also it will not fully charge using a brand new apple brand power adapter and cable. I have already uninstalled all Apple software on PC and reinstalled.  I've tried every step suggested by Apple online iPod touch Troubleshooting Assistant.

the best thing i think you could do is go to an apple store or uninstall itunes and reinstall it one more time and see what happens

  • ITunes not recognising iPod touch

I can't sync my 2nd gen. touch with iTunes, when plugged in, iTunes doesn't recognise the iPod and the icon doesn't come up, however it does charge. I've been through all iTunes help and can't find anything. Any suggestions?

  • ITune not recognising iPod touch, on and off.

Okay, this is not the usual iTunes not recognising the iPod.
I had this problem when I first set up my iPod. After a full uninstall and reinstall of iTunes, as described in the support article, my iPod was recognised. Now I have added more music to my collection, and a couple of the apps need updating I wanted to update my iPod. I connected my iPod and nothing, it does not show in iTunes. It is showing in my computer as a camers which I really wish it would stop doing. Also when my iPod was connected the first time I set up to allow it to wirelessly update and it won't do that either.
I am stuck on what else to do. I just hope I am not going to have to do a full uninstall and reinstall every time I want to update my iPod, because it rather defeats the purpose.
I have read and followed the instructions here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipodtouch/assistant/itunes/
I have even de-authorised and re-authorised my account as suggested at the Apple store. It is the latest model of touch, not sure what gen that is but it is only two weeks old. What else can I do to try and get this sorted?

Illass thank you for the reply, but as I said I have done everything on the support page. I even printed off the uninstall instructions as it gave you a rather precise order to do it in and I did check for the folders to see if they had been left, I learnt that when I updated my graphics drivers and still a game said my card wasn't up to scratch, even though my card supported shading 4.0 it only needed 2.0 for the game.
I also printed off the software conflict information otherwise I would have gotten totally lost.
However thank you for the disabling info, as it was getting a tad annoying when I was connecting it to charge up.
I decided to uninstall and reinstall again and low and behold it is recognised again. That makes it the second time I have had to do this to get my touch recognised. However doing this everytime I want to update is going to be rather annoying.
Ah the days of the Nano 2nd gen, and the innoence of those times. Shame some clumsy so-an-so knocked it out of my hand and stepped on it as it was just so simple to use.

  • IBook G4 does not recognise iPod Touch

Set up and sync. I have an iBook G4 with USB 2.0 ports running OS 10.4.10 and iTunes 7.4.2(4).
When I plug in my new iPod Touch an image of the USB cable appears on the Touch screen for a few seconds and then disappears leaving a blank screen. Nothing else happens.
iTunes does not open automatically and even when I open it manually the Touch does not appear under the list of devices.
I have tried everything suggested in the troubleshooting section of the pdf features guide but nothing seems to help.
The Touch is just not recognised although I have no similar problem with my iPod Nano.
    Any ideas anyone ?

Problem solved. Downloaded and installed a new copy of iTunes - everything now working correctly.

  • Bose SoundDock will not charge ipod touch

I bought a Bose sound dock to charge my 80gb ipod  with video a few years ago. Apple has changed the pin layout and my new ipod touch will play, but not charge on the sound dock.  Does anyone know if I can change the pins or buy a crossover cable?  Love the sound of my new ipod touch on the dock, but without charging ability, it does not last long.

Could it be that your 80GB iPod used Firewire?  Older iPods did.  Firewire uses 12 volts whereas the modern iDevices use USB which is 5 volts.  I am afraid that any change is configuration would damage either the Dock or the iPod.
