HT1444 Is there a way to undo an update and go back to prior version?

Is there a way to undo an update and go back to a previous version? I installed the latest version of 10.7.4 (?) on my iPhone (4s) but I hate it. I was warned by another user not to update. She said I would regret it. I should've listened.
1)The Icons are lighter in color with tiny print on them - resembling a bunch of light colored boxes without meaning.
2) I used to be able to double-click the home button, press-and-hold a running icon at the bottom and deselect all that were running to prolong my battery life, but I can't figure out how to do that now.
I am reluctant to update my iPad now. I think I will readjust my settings to make the updates "hidden".

Unfortunately there isn't a downgrade path. However, to improve legibility go to Settings>General>Accessibility and turn 'Larger Type' on and make adjustments there. Also you can turn the 'Bold Text' option on.
To close down apps, double-tap the Home button as before and any open apps will appear as a reduced sized window of the app. Stroke that window 'up' and the app will close down.

Try a different camera app.  Camera Plus is a good one and there are many others.

  • I have had terribble experience with Firefox 4.0.1 - it hangs and crashes all the time. Is there a way a can uninstall it and go back to previous version?

A lot of times when it crashes it gives an error when should send out the crash report - says it can't be sent, but this is the crash ID from 3 days ago - hope it will help. I also have the problem with the FlashGet extension. In previous version of Firefox it used to easily pick up the download, now it doesn't and I have to manually enter the link into FlashGet itself. I was always so happy with Firefox. Other browsers like Safari or Chrome just didn't do it for me, but now it's just impossible to work like that.

That message appears because your phone was hacked to unlock it in order to use it with the carrier you're now using. Updating software or restoring a hacked iPhone will re-lock it to the carrier it was originally locked to. You have two choices: re-hack it, or get it officially unlocked(only the carrier it is locked to can authorize such).

  • I have a external back-up that my iMac (10.6.8) won't mount. Is there a way to mount without intializing and losing back-up data?

I have a external back-up that my iMac (10.6.8) won't mount. Is there a way to mount without intializing and losing back-up data? I used time machine to back-up to a Seagate Go-flex hard drive. I get a message from my iMac that says it doesn't recognize this drive and wants to initialize. Hope someone can help.

Try connecting the drive to a Windows machine, then ejecting.  If it won't eject properly, restart the Windows machine, and try again.  Then try connecting it to the Mac.

  • I synced my data and all my bookmarks disappeared is there a way to undo the sync and get them back?

I believed that my laptop and desktop were set up to sync my laptop's data to my desktop. The desktop had no bookmarks on it, when I hit the sync button on my laptop all my bookmarks disappeared. It appears that the desktop replaced the laptop's data instead...
Is there a way to get them back?

Restore the bookmarks from a JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder that still has them.

i beleve the police can do this some how as you hear of things when bad people have deleted things and they can get them back

We are not Apple employees on this discussion site. We are other users like you volunteering our time to help.
If you have never backed up then the photos are gone. You should always backup your iPad. You should be able to download your apps again in the App store purchased tab and as long as you use the same ID that you bought them with, you will not be charged again for them.

  • Updated iPhone 4 to new software. forgot to save the calendar. Is there a way to get my calendar and photos back?

I updayed my Iphone 4 with the new software, but forgot to save my calender and photos. Is there any way to restore them?

If you never backed up or synced the calendar or photos, there is no recovery you can do. The photos may still be on your phone in a hidden folder.  There are iPhone repair centers that may have software that can find them. Google.

  • Is there any way to uncomact the inbox and go back to a folder with files in it?

I am running Thunderbird 24.5.0 on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
I let my inbox get rather big and Thunderbird decided to compact it, it seems to be just one file now. Now my virus checker says it has found a threat in the file InBox and wants to delete the file. I don't want to just delete my entire inbox. I was hoping that if I could uncompact it the virus checker could find and delete just the message causing the problem. I have deleted a lot of junk messages so the inbox is not as big now but I can't find any way of reversing the compression.

    Re: Anti-virus
Because emails are stored one after the other in a single file, anti-virus programs are not always designed to recognise this, they only see one file.
What you could do is create a folder on the desktop and save the emails as individual .eml files in that folder. Right click on highlighted emails and choose 'Save as' options. Select the created desktop folder where to save the email.
There is an addon called ImportExport tool which can offer more options; see link below and image..
    * https://freeshell.de//~kaosmos/mboximport-en.html
Then scan the created desktop folder containing the .eml email files. the anti-virus will then pick up the actual email that it believes is corrupt. Once you know this, you can delete the actual email from the Inbox.
Remember that after emptying Deleted and Junk folders to right click on folder and select Compact to remove all traces.

  • Is there a way to uninstall iTunes 10 and go back to a working version?

I installed iTunes 10 when it came up a couple of days ago, and unfortunately it doesn't work. Specifically, I can apparently no longer connect to the iTunes Store, either through the computer or through the iPod. I haven't yet tried to sync my iPod - I'm afraid something will go wrong there as well.
As far as I can see, I don't have any earlier, working version of the iTunes software on my hard drive, so there's nothing to install in place of the defective version. Are there archives of the earlier versions somewhere that can be used to roll back the installation to something that works?

I'd make sure you uninstall all the associated parts and pieces. The easiest way to do this is to go to programs from the control panel, then sort the list by publisher. Scroll down and start uninstalling - starting with iTunes, then QT, then the remainder. From reading other support and forum articles, it is important to start from scratch. I'd also run a registry cleaner to help improve the outcome (but not required). You can find a 9.2.x iTunes by googling for it. I agree with a previous post on this thread about exporting your library/lists. However, another way to do this is found here - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1451. I found this the easiest as if when you first start iTunes 9.2.x, it complains about the iTunes.itl file being created by a newer version of iTunes.

  • HT203421 Is there any way to reinstall apps such as iPhoto for a prior version of OSX such as Mountain Lion?

iPhoto seems to be corrupted so I'm trying to reinstall from Apps store but it only give me the option to download the version for Yosemite.  I need the version for Mountain Lion.  How can I get it?

I didn't want to risk deleting my current version without finding a clean copy to reinstall.  The only version available to me in the App store is 9.6.1 which is for Yosemite but I have Mountain Lion.  I found another post which explained how to repair a corrupted iPhoto Library and since I did that iPhoto is not crashing anymore (yet) so maybe I've fixed it.

  • Is there a way to undo the last itunes update? itunes will not now recognise my ipod nano

I recently installed the itunes update to 11.3 and my ipod nano (gen 7) is no longer recognised in itunes. Is there a way to undo the update or is itunes issuing a fix for it. the message board indicate I'm far from alone with this problem!

    Hi princecaspian22,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand how frustrating it can be for your device to not be recognized in iTunes. There may be a few steps to take to help isolate the issue and get this resolved. I suggest following the steps in the following article to help you through the process.

  • My iphone 4s is literally frozen when I try to do anything to it, since the ios 8 download yesterday.  Can I undo the download and go back?

I downloaded the ios8 last night and ever since, everything from making a call to checking facebook or text is freezing up my phone!  The time even stops on it!! Can I undo this update and go back because this is making my phone useless?

i am sorry to say but there is no way to undo a software update to go back you have to go threw your phone provider and have then do a replacement on the phone and just not do the update. when they receive the phone they will send it off for testing and to have the bugs fixed

Help please I can't save any documents now! Thanks in advance all, it is truly appreciated. how can find the hidden temporary files using the terminal what do i type in?

It's more likely a failed Erase Free Space, which creates a huge temporary file; that's why it looks like you have no more available drive space. You can recover from this. See these links
