HT1451 import playlist in itunes 11

How do I import a playlist from my iphone 4s to iTunes 11?

Hi - I have a similar issues as this one that you answered long ago, I hope you might be able to help me.
Recently, my PC computer crashed, purchased a new one (with Windows 8) and fortunately had all my files and music backed up.  I was able to copy all my music from my external hard-drive to the new PC. All of my music library showed up in the new iTunes 11version - but without my playlists.
I've seareched and read through so many of the Apple Support Community suggestions, but have either not found the exact situation or what it suggests does not work due to different versions (or possibly I'm just not literate enough to follow ).
I have my "Classic" iPod with my playlists.  I have not synced it to the laptop because of fear that I would lose the playlists.  But I'd like tio sync it has I have purchased new music.  Is it possible to somehow transfer ONLY the playlists from my iPod to my iTunes on the computer.  Or - is there someway to find the playlists in "Previous iTunes Libraries"  from either the extrenal hard-drive or in the iTunes file on my computer.  I've tried to follow directions from previous posts to do this, but it never works or I can't seem to follow the directions.

  • Importing playlists from iTunes 10 to older version

    Hi,
I have a friend who's just copied his 80GB music library on his Macbook Pro(10.6.5) to his G5 (10.4.x). All is well with the music library, but he wants the Playlists from iTunes 10 on the Macbook to be transferred to the G5.
Does anyone have any ideas on the best method to batch export playlists only, into a single file? I checked out dougs Applescripts for iTunes and the nearest thing i found was 'create playlists based on albums'.
Also, is it the 'iTunes Music Library.xml' file that contains the playlists?
Would it be possible to import that iTunes 10 created file to an older version of iTunes (i can't test this at the moment...)
    Thanks in advance

Am i missing something obvious or is it not possible to import a regular playlist from itunes onto the ipod?
You don't import playlist to the iPod. If you are manually managing, you drag it to the iPod.
If you are not manually managing, you auto-sync it.
When i tried to drag the finished playlist to the ipod it wouldn't let me.
    Select the iPod in iTunes.
Is *Manually manage music* and videos ticked?

  • HT4527 Problems importing playlists into ITunes on a new computer

I followed directions from "HT4527: iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer" by using home sharing.  The songs transferred without problem.  I am having problems moving the playlists (over 100 playlists).  I exported the library file with the playlists and saved it to the new computer in the same subdirectory with ITunes.  I have typed out the library file to verify the playlists exist, but when I try to import playlists, the lists that appear on the target computer are either empty or duplicates of the playlists that existed on the target computer.  I am using the latest version of ITunes.  The transferring computer is a Toshiba laptop running Windows 7.  The target computer is an HP Pavilion computer running Windows XP.  Thanks for any help you can give. I have spent many hours trying to transfer the songs and playlists.

If you still have the computer with your original library these are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer, without needing to export and import playlists.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have failed to move contacts and calendar items across you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • Imported playlists but itunes doesn't see songs

I have dutifuly exported playlists both by right click playlist/export playlists and by file/export as xml and neither of those formats imported see any of the music. I have to find them all manually now. Any thoughts?

I'm looking for an answer to this same question. I imported a previous iTunes library. The playlist folders are in tact but are empty. No song info appears.
Can someone direct me toward a solution. The iTunes tutorial doesn't offer tips on this.

  • How to import playlist to itunes?

There's no "Import Playlist" option in the library tab. I'm using iTunes in Windows 7 and it's not there.

Ok, so after some more searching, I've learned that .wpl playlists are proprietary to WMP.
Does anyone have a way to convert .WPL files into .M3U in bulk? I have over 100 playlists and doing it manually is not going to be fun...

  • Importing playlists to iTunes, programming question....

I'm writing a foreign language utility that works in conjunction with iTunes. What i want to do is to be able to create a playlist within iTunes semi-programmatically.
My first attempt was to import an m3u file. Unfortunately, I can't get foreign character set names to work. If the title contains foreign characters, it doesn't get imported. I tried using a UTF-8 file, and also URL encoding the title, but neither worked.
I then thought of mimicing the iTunes export to text file format. But I don't have access to the dozen or so fields, all I want to create is a list of file names. I tried making a similar file but just with names, but iTunes doesn't want to recognize it.
    Anybody got any ideas?

  • Import playlists into iTunes 10.4.1.10

    Hi everyone,
I have been using iTunes and MusicIP Mixer together for years, with MusicIP Mixer generating my playlists. I like to do this because I have a large music collection & can generat a playlist of about 100 songs to listen to each day. However, the lastest update to iTunes no longer seems to support this. If I just try to send the playlist to iTunes, I get an error message, attempts to import the .m3u file creates a blank playlist and nothing at all seems to happen when trying to import the ..xspf file. I am using Widows 7. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

...after some tries I fixed the problem by creating a new library....
    The reason was:
In case your iTunes library is on a NAS do never go on the library with two different iDevices at the some time: it will destroy your library in that way that you will have only read-only access on your own mediathek !

  • Importing playlists from itunes

    Hi All, new here.
I was just wondering.. can I import my itunes playlists in to Nokia music manager, or do I have to input aaaaall the tracks one by one again? /
One of my lists is 250+ tracks long, and I was kinda hoping I wouldn't have to grab them all again individually.
    Thanks in advance!!!

Forget about Nokia Music Manager. Just copy your files from itunes via the cable, (faster than BT), into your playlists on the E drive on your card. May take awhile but you can highlight all of them, or maybe better in batches, and copy into the E drive.

  • HT1451 Missing playlists in iTunes 10/2012

I recently opened iTunes this week to sync my music to my iphone after not accessing iTunes for several months.  All but one of my playlists are gone!  How can I get them back?  Running v10.70.21 on my pc.  Lot's of music I purchased on iTunes is gone!  Please HELP!

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • Importing Playlists from an older version itunes

I have a new machine and installed the latest itunes. I have the backup files of itunes from two old machines that are no longer available. I was able to drag/drop the music in no problem. The old itunes backups each have a folder called playlists and my old playlists are in there. I want to import/merge them into itunes on my new machine. I use File / library / Import Playlist but nothing happens when I pick one of the files. What am I missing?

if you have the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) on the external, just copy it from the external to <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music on your new Mac, replacing the iTunes folder (presumably devoid of content) in place there.
(the new version of) iTunes on the 27" will simply update the library files upon 1st launch but you should find all your playlists, ratings, etc. intact.

  • TA47831 How can I import a playlist to iTunes?

An old article (http://support.apple.com/kb/TA47831) explained how to export an iTunes playlist to an .m3u file and reimport it.  This functionality no longer works with the newer version of iTunes (I'm running iTunes 10.6 on Windows 7).  This is presumably why the article has been retired and is no longer supported by Apple.
If I export a playlist, change its name, then reimport the result is an empty playlist.  Here is an example of one of the lines from the .m3u file:
    #EXTINF:196,My Happiness - Ella Fitzgerald
    \\NEF\music\Ella Fitzgerald - 50 Classic Hits (disc 2)\Ella Fitzgerald - My Happiness.mp3
As you can see my file is an mp3 on a remote server ("nef") and works perfectly well in the "Music" section of iTunes.
What I really want to do is to import some playlists that have been generated elsewhere (for example using a script to identify all the US hits of the 1980s with the word "power" somewhere in the lyrics).  I figured the easiest way to do that would be to work out what format of playlist iTunes would be able to import and generate one of those, I was somewhat surprised to discover that iTunes can't even import a playlist it has just exported.
How can I import a playlist to iTunes?

    Hi Steve,
I was wondering this myself and a quick Google found your post here along with an Apple support article published three weeks ago. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH1744?viewlocale=en_US
    Hope this helps.

  • Failure to import files from a M3U playlist on iTunes 11.1.2 on Windows 8.1

    Hi All,
I have gone through all the previous discussions and forums, and seen a lot of other people had problems with the previous version of iTunes 10.4 with importing Playlists, and the playlist showing up, but with no content inside.
I am currently  having this problem, and am running with the most recent update of iTunes 11.1.2.
I have done 'Home Sharing' and have copied all my songs etc. over onto my new computer. These are all stored on an external hard drive. I can play these songs no problems on my  new computer.
I then exported my playlists from my previous computer into M3U files and imported them into my iTunes on my new computer- the playlists show up, but there is no content in them. HELP! All the songs are available for the playlists on the external hard drive, so not sure why they are not being shown in the playlist.
I am just a general user around computers, so don't want to get too involved and probably don't know how to write a script as Ive seen some people suggested previously. Surely there is just something I have missed???  Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks so much guys.
    Bec.

    I fixed it myself everyone!
Instead of exporting the playlists as M3U files- I exported them as XML files. And then simply imported them into my iTunes on my new computer- worked perfectly!!
Hope this helps anyone with similar problems!
    Cheers
