Transferring music from IPOD to Laptop

I no longer have access to the computer I originally set up my IPOD with. How do I get files to transfer from my IPOD classic (30GB)to my new computer? When I open the IPOD in My computer, I can find no music folder.

For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.

If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

i just got a new computer, and before i got my new computer my old one got messed up and i lost all my files. So is there a way that i can take the contents of my ipod and just transfer them to my new computer so that i may continue to add new stuff to it?

Problem transfering music/updating ipod

I recently moved and changed computers. My ipod had my library from home on it but i had a new library at my apt. i plugged my ipod in to see what kind of transfer there would be and it erased my ipod and filled it with the new library. then i went back home, and reversed it with my old library. finally, i had enough at my apt so once more i erased my ipod and built it with the library from my computer. today i tried to traditionally transfer music, adding music into my ipod. it would not update, it said it was finished updating but when i looked, none of the new songs were transfered into my ipod.... please help im so frustrated. ive tried reinstalling but that doesn't solve the problem.

What you are trying to do is illegal. You cannot take your friend's music. That is one of the reasons for the message.
Also, even if legal, you cannot use iTunes to move music from iPod to computer.

Transferring music from ipod classic to new computer

Hi, can anyone help?
My last computer became corrupted and unusable and I am left only with my ipod of music, which I would like to transfer to a new computer, however, it will not synch with the new one as it is says my ipod is already synched with another computer (my old one!). I have contacted apple and they have sent me information, but you need to make adjustments on the old computer (which no longer exists)to transfer the files. Is there a way of transferring the music from the ipod to my new computer, without using my old computer?

OK, I had to restore my laptop to factory-settings, and so lost all my music in iTunes. Still have my music on my iPod, but obviously can't syncronise it as I'd lose all the music on there.
I have tried a couple of software packages (ipod2computer & Tune Tools), but neither of them seem to work (one keeps asking me to put in my credit card details again and the other just hangs or saying it hs updating data, but after a few hours nothing happens). Really looking for help or recommendations in transfering music files from my ipod or software that can enable this.

Transfering Music to ipod between computers

I tried transfering music to my ipod mini from a different computer than usual, but it wiped out my old library. When I went to my original computer to get my old music back, itunes said that there was another user using my ipods software and that I couldnt update my ipod. HELP!

Computer not automatically transfering music to ipod.

I had a sad face thing on my ipod, so i followed the instructions and now i have removed my old itunes, and i had to reinstall a new itunes thing and now it recongnizes my ipod, but it will not automatically transfer music to it..what can i do?

Hello, I'm quite new to iPod.
I was wondering, can I transfer music from my iPod back to my iTunes?
I have some mp3's in the Pod that I'd like to burn to CD and I've deleted from my iTunes. I can't seem to drag or copy the songs from the Pod...

There's also another method. I've successfully tested this across several different Windows PCs.

Transfering music from iPod to computer (Itunes)

Hi,
My computer have crashed. I have now replaced the broken harddisc and installed SW. I only have my music in my iPod now. How do I trigger a transfer from my iPod to iTunes, it doesn't happen by it self when the iPod is connected and listed in iTunes?
I currently got music and filmes in the iPod. And I do not want to loose any of it, just get it copied over to iTunes.

Transfering music from ipod onto computer

I recently shared some music with a friend by putting it on my ipod from their itunes on their computer but i can't take it from my ipod and drag it into my library. is there any other way that i can do this?

Hello Rachel, and welcome aboard.
The simplest way of doing what you're asking for is to ask your friend to burn your choice of music on a CD and import it into your own iTunes.

New hard drive, same iPod, but difficulty transferring music! HELP!!!

OK, my computer's hard drive recently crashed and I had to install a new one.I reinstalled my operating system and iTunes. My iPod, still had the 700 songs on it, so I thought I could just place the songs on the iPod back into iTunes.
Well, I guess this method is called "syncing." Either way, I authorized my computer and had the music "synced" The only music to transfer over, however, were my iTunes purchased songs. My entire music library (built from hundreds of CDs) would not transfer.
So question 1: Can I retransfer ALL my music to iTunes?
And the second half of this problem is that when I download new music from iTunes and my CDs and try to place them in my iPod, the music won't transfer over. IT just gives me an option to "sync."
How can I get my iTunes music updated into my iPod????!
Why is this so difficult?

The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved also it was written long before iTunes 7 so it requires a little adaptation as the iPod preferences are no longer in the location described. Also it won't transfer playlists or videos as far as I know. However if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. Relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

Transferring music from iPod to PC

I accidentally deleted my music files from iTunes on my PC. Is there a way to transfer them from my iPod back to the PC? Please don't tell me I have to copy all my CDs again.

There is also a new function in iTunes 7 under File, "Transfer Purchases from iPod" which transfers iTMS purchases that you can check out. A paragraph on it has also been added to this article: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
If your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting back to your computer and an empty iTunes. If it is set to automatically update you will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No* (or "Cancel" if you are using iTunes 7). Pressing "Yes" (or Erase and Sync in iTunes 7) will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. In iTunes 7 Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Don't uncheck Sync Music it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting: Managing Your Songs Manually
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys, (on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer.
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for quite a small outlay.

Problem transferring music to iPod touch

Ok, so I just bought the IPT 2G 16gig less than a week ago, and i love it. So I put in a cd and load it into my library, and everything works just fine; until I try to take the music and put it into the touch. I drag the music to my ipod and it wont go in. I cant sync my ipod because my family has ipods too, and i dont want all their music on my ipod. Can anyone help me?
Also, this is my second ipod, my first being an ipod nano 2G. I had a different itunes on a different computer, and i was wondering if there was a way that i could take my nano, put it into my IPT library, and dump all the songs on my nano into that.

Fire up iTunes with your ITP connected. Under devices in the left hand pane click on your iPods name. Go to the centre panel and under the options heading make sure the manually manage music and videos option is checked. Now you wont need to sync, you can just hit the disclosure triangle in the left panel next to your iPod's name, select the 'music' heading under it and then go to the File menu and select 'new playlist' and drag the songs you want from your itunes library and drop them onto that playlist. (alternatively, if you already have playlists created under your itunes library, you should be able to just drag the playlists themselves into the ipod to transfer those songs over.
As to your question about transferring songs from your nano, you'll have to hit google for that, it's not a topic that can be discussed here given the T&C's of this forum.

Problem manually transferring music to Ipod Nano

I am trying to manually add music from my iTunes to my Ipod Nano. I highlight the relevant song/playlist and drag over the Ipod in the menu on then left hand side of the screen, but when my mouse is over the Ipod, it just shows a 'no-entry' type of logo and my music is not transferred. Any ideas why? I don't want to automatically update, as I have music on various PC's.
