HT1459 iTunes will not recognize iPod for syncing, downloading versions, etc?

I am attempting to connect/sync/download latest version of iTunes to my brand new iPod Touch, 4th generation.  Nothing happens.  It says I need to have 10.6.3 version or higher, but when I attempt to download to the iPod, it only downloads to my computer.  I am connected via the USB cable, not via WiFi.

Well, it looks like the iPod will need to come back to factory settings none the less. Try doing this:
First, show "Hidden Files and Folders" (Open my computer, click on "Tools" then Folder options, click on the view tab, put the dot next to show hidden files and folders and apply, ok)
Then, Terminate ipodservice.exe and ituneshelper.exe (This is assuming iTunes launches)
Connect the ipod, wait for it to show in My Computer.
Double click on it and you will find an ipod control folder in here - Drag and drop this to the recycle bin, close and open iTunes....Let's see if the ipod will be recognized allowing you to restore it.

  • Itunes will not recognize Ipod Touch

Ok, so I tried to install Itunes 8 when it first released the other day. I received the BSOD, I ended up reverting back to the last known working configuration for windows. So back to Itunes 7.7.1 or whatever. Plugged my Touch in, and it would not recognize at all. I checked in the hardware config and it seemed that the drivers were not installed for the Ipod. I found out about the HP printer fix, and unplugged my HP printer. I installed Itunes 8, works fine now.
BUT, I plugged my Ipod Touch in, and I get a new hardware wizard, installs the drivers, and asks what I want to do with it, pull pictures off? It's acting like an external drive. Itunes won't recognize it though, no beeps stating it was connected, just won't recognize it is there.
Is there anything I can do to fix this?

The first five of those I actually tried. I should check the services menu, and I uninstalled Itunes, but did not restart afterwards. So when I reinstalled, everything was still there. I will try doing that tonight after work.

  • ITunes will not recognize IPod Or Nano

Help - i have spent the entire day reading and trying different options to no avail.
I have a Dell Latitude D620 Microsft XP. I have not synced to my nano in 2 months. Just purchsed an IPod Classic for my girlfriend.
I connected the nano to the computer. ITunes comes up as it should, but does not show the device. Windows does recognize it.
    Ipod - samething.
I can not get Itunes to show the devices so that I can sync.
I have tried uninstalling and installing ITunes several times.
I give up and I am at the point of returning the IPod.

Kristine, thanks for the suggestion. I have tried that already, to no avail, and have also reinstalled iTunes and trashed the AppleMobileDeviceHelper files per the instructions..

Itunes will not recognize my ipod. How do I fix this?

Connect your iPod to any computer with iTunes installed, highlight your device and try syncing the apps only. If it doesn't work might have to restore through iTunes. With the new iTunes and iCloud beta, you can have the iTunes list what apps are missing on your device but if you had previously purchased in the past and then have iTunes install them. You should always get in the habit of backing up your iPhone whenever you do any firmware/OS updating/upgrading or transferring over to new device. I really really really really hope you can get back at least some of your old info. I will tell you this, I have been kicking myself in the butt for not routinely backing up my iPhone when my beautiful special iPhone 4 came up missing and had to revert back to my 3GS. iPhone 5 will be released in a few months so I am holding off on purchasing a new iPhone til then, not that I did so without reservation and a little bit of iPhone 4 withdraw.
