HT1459 not charging through computer or wall adapter

my brand new ipod touch won't charge through computer or wall adapter please help?????

When I connect my new 80G iPod to my computer, it
syncs, but it doesn't seem to be charging. The icon
is a steady green with a picture of a plug, but when
unplugged the battery is near empty. Shouldn't the
icon flash and show a lightening bolt when charging?
That's what it does when I charge from the wall.
Why isn't my charging through the computer?
Thanks.
Sheldon
I figured it out. I had the iPod plugged into a USB hub, but since it's an unpowered hub, the iPod won'charge through it. When I go directly to the computer, all is well.

My sons iPod touch will only charge with computer. This has happened since update. Wall charger charges other iPods/iPhone. Restored to original defaults. And still does not work.

I believe it started with the update prior to 5.1.1.  I just udated it to the 5.1.1, thinking it would resolve the problem.

I do have this experience of electric shocks few days ago. My phone was not dropped before. While it is still charging using the USB cable through my notebook, i picked it up and touches the volumn button, i got a shock. Not sure whats wrong too.
Do you still get a shock if it is charging from the laptop when the laptop is not connect to power?

  • My Ipad will not charge and Ihave booted it and still no chargeing tryed computer and wall plug

my Ipad will not charge and Ihave booted it and still no chargeing tryed computer and wall plug

The best way to charge an iPad is to use the charger that came with it connected to a known good wall outlet. The following might be the problem.
    No power in the outlet.
Bad charger unit. Try a different charger.
Bad cable. Try a know good cable.
Dirt in the connector on the iPad. Check and clean.
A fault in the charging software. Reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
A hardware failure. Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

  • IPad not charging through USB

Just got an iPad. When using USB cord to connect to computer, iPad charging indicator says "not charging". iTunes synchs fine. When I use wall outlet to charge all OK. Any ideas why not charging through ANY USB port on my laptop? Thank you,
    Chris

Leave it plugged in after you complete the sync, let it go to sleep (lock) and the charging rate will increase and you'll get a charging indication.
The charger provided with your iPad can put out up to 2A of charging current. The best you're going to see from a USB port is somewhere around 500mA, that only from high-power ports and can be less depending on the computer. Seeing the "Not Charging" while syncing is perfectly normal.

  • "iPad not charging Connect to a power adapter or a USB port on this mac to charge" Maverick issue!

Ever since we updated to mavericks our deployment of 60 iPad's flashes "iPad not charging Connect to a power adapter or a USB port on this mac to charge" on the screen every time one is plugged in. It is a false alarm because the iPad does in fact trickle charge and it does update the device like it is supposed to. At this point it's more of an annoyance then an actual problem. However I would like it to stop popping up every time one is plugged in.
Does anybody have any ideas to stop it?

Your computer USB port typically provides only 2.5W of power. iPads require 10-12W of charging power. That's why you get the "Not Charging" message. However, the iPad is charging, but much slower. There's no way to stop it.

  • My Shuffle 2g will not charge through USB on laptop or through wall adapter

    Hi,
I cannot get iTunes or my pc to recognize my iPod, so it obviously won't charge. I tried charging through a wall outlet and that's not working either. I've tried turning it off for 5 seconds and then turning on just as i was directed in troubleshooting with no luck.
Can someone please help me? This is getting very frustrating and turning me off to Apple products.

Ran into this same issue last night with my daughter's shuffle. It worked fine yesterday afternoon, plugged it into the computer to charge, everything seemed normal (ie. orange to green charging light). Then she complained the iPod wouldn't play. Thought she locked it by accident, or had the volume turned down, but I messed with it and couldn't get it to work either. Tried to plug it back in, but now the PC won't reconize the device at all (not in Win Explorer or iTunes so reset utility won't help). Only thing different about my situation from what else I've read is that when I put the iPod in the dock, or charge from the wall, after 2 secs, the green light blinks once...then nothing. When I remove the iPod and turn it on, the orange light comes on but no sound, etc. I've tried docking to six different USB ports on two different computers and tried two different sync cables...no go.
If anyone has any suggestions other than trash the iPod, my daughter would appreciate the help. Thanks.

  • 4th Gen. ipod. No longer charges from wall socket. Still can charge from computer. Wall power adapter and cord both work fine on other devices. Wall Why?

4th Generation ipod. Used to charge fine from wall socket (cord and USB adapter) and could also charge on the computer. Suddenly stopped charging from the wall. The same cord and adapter still work for my iphone, so there is not problem with either of them. What has changed? Why won't the ipod charge from the wall anymore? Is there anything I can do about it?

Thanks! It didn't actually work with the one I was using to charge the computer either. We had tried the computer cable with the power adapter, and it didn't  work to charge the ipod, though it does charge my iphone. Following your idea further,  I waited for my husband to get home from a trip and tried one of his extra cables he keeps in his backpack. That cable worked in with the USB  power adaptor. I had thought that because the cable I use on my computer charges my iphone through the USB power adapter or the computer, and that it charged the ipod through the computer that it was fully functional. Apparantly not.  Thanks again.

  • IPod touch is unresponsive (black screen) unless it is plugged into the computer or wall adapter. It is fully charged. I have tried powering it off on back on.

iPod touch is a blank black screen  doesn't respond unless it is plugged into a source ie computer or wall charger. It is fully charged and I tried turning it off and repowering it

If Ingo's suggestion doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."

  • Battery will not charge. Computer runs only off adapter.

A few days ago my battery quit charging and my Powerbook 1.5GHz G4 will run only off the adapter. The computer shuts off when it is unplugged and will not boot unless it is plugged in. I tried resetting the Power Managment Unit by unplugging the cable and battery and holding the power button for 5 sec. nothing changed. This is a battery I recieved from Apple for the recall.
Here is system information my computer displays when the battery is in and the adapter is plugged in. I noticed that it recognizes the battery is installed, but it says it is not charging and that the remaining battery capacity is zero.
    Battery Information:
    Battery Installed: Yes
    First low level warning: No
    Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 3781
    Remaining Capacity (mAh): 0 <-----------
    Amperage (mA): 0
    Voltage (mV): 8806
    Cycle Count: 225
    AC Charger Information:
    AC Charger (Watts): 65
    Connected: Yes
    Charging: No <------------

Something is suspicious about those numbers. 3781 looks like the capacity of a brand new battery. If you manage your battery perfectly per Apples directions, after 225 cycles, you should be along the curve to hit 80% capacity by 300 cycles.
There are only 4 components to the charging circuit - the power adapter, the dc-in card, the battery, and the logic board. Since the power adapter runs the system, you'd assume it's OK. Do you have access to anyone with the same battery or an Apple store or Apple Authorized Service Provider where you could check to see if indeed the battery has failed? Here's Apple's US (you don't indicate where you live) service locator: http://www.apple.com/buy/locator/service/ . If it's a dc-in card problem, it costs around $100, and if it's a logic board problem, it costs more.

  • My iPhone 4 will charge on a wall socket but WILL NOT charge on computer or even connect to the computer and show up???

My iPhone 4 will not connect to my MacBookPro. It will not charge on my MacBookPro, but it will charge on a wall socket and it will play music in a 3rd party speaker system??
This is extremely frustrating not only can I not back up my iPhone but I also can not update its OS etc.

Have you tried other USB Sockets on the MBP?
Have you tried other devices in these USB sockets?, do these work?
Sounds like a fault on the Macbook
