HT1461 can i play a pc cd with the boot camp

I have a macbook air and bout the USB superdrive... im wondering if i can play a PC made game on the macbook or i need to buy the mac version or if i download the boot camp will it work

BootCamp is only an app that enable your Macintosh to restart and launch on Windows. To do this, it creates a PC partition on your hard drive, but you NEED to install Windows on it.
See this:
Mac Basics: Using Windows on your Mac with Boot Camp
There's another way to have Windows apps on your Mac, like the emulators. Different exist, free or to sold, but you can search on google for these:
VirtualBox
CrossOver (no need to install Window! but perfectible)
Parallels
VMWare Fusion

  • Real Bonehead Question-What do I do with the Boot Camp Update 2.1?

    Hello All,
The speakers on the iMac don't seem to work using boot camp/Windows Vista and some folks suggested I download the update from Apple.
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/BootCamp_Update_2_1_for_Windows_Vista32
Well, I have done so. Uh..Now what? When I opened the download, all I get is a text edit full of gobblygook. I suspect I am doing something wrong...
Any words of wisdom? Don't be afraid to describe in great detail, using very small words on this topic. I take foolproof as a personal challenge.
    Thanks,
    Brian

    Hi Brian,
the file you downloaded is an .exe file which can only be run in Windows not in OSX (as you obviously tried).
Copy the file to an USB-Memory-Stick, reboot your Mac into Windows and copy the file from the USB-stick to your Windows partition.
(I prefer a Folder in the root directory for this, e.g. C:\Download)
But before running this driver update you should check which driver versions you have installed already.
Since your signature states that you are using OSX 10.6.4 Snow Leopard I assume that you have installed the BootCamp Drivers form the OSX install DVD which would mean that you have at least the 3.0 Drivers (or later) installed.
Right-click on the BootCamp 'diamond' icon in the lower right side to see which version you have right now.
You might also use the Apple Software Update in WIndows to see if you are uptodate.
    Regards
    Stefan

It is. Win7 Ultimate64 is running on it right now, with the Boot Camp 64 drivers from the original boot camp drivers on the macbook CD.
It IS the Snow Leopard Boot Camp - is that 2.1 already ? I can't find a version number with it...

  • BIG PROBS with Creating RAID 0 with the Boot HD

    Hey Everybody,
i have a Mac Pro with Mac OS X 10.5.3 and the folloring configuration:
    1) a boot DH with 250GB
    2) 2 x 500GB HD as a Raid 0 for Data
now i buy a new 250GB HD (then i have 2 x 250gb and 2 x 500 gb HDs) to create a nother RAID 0 with the boot HD... but that doesent work!
    W H Y ? ? ?
i have look here in the forum fpr help, dont find a thread.
can some one help me? can i create a raid 0 with the boot hd? and when...how?
    king regadrs..
    christian

Lets say A and B are your 250gb drives with your current boot drive A. The two 500's are data drives C and D. My process would be to run Disk Repair on B, C and D. Then I'd run Disk Warrior on B C and D. Then boot from your DVD and run Disk Utility to repair A, just to ensure all is good. Then I would double check C and D to ensure they were duplicates, doing a Super Duper clone if needed. Then remove either C or D from your computer for safe keeping. Let's say you remove D. I would then wipe C clean and use SuperDuper to clone A to C and verify I have made a bootable perfect copy. You might even want to partition C into two drives and make two copies of A...just for temporary safety. After C has a boot copy, boot from C. Then you can use DiskUtility to create a simple RAID0 on A and B, and when that is done you can copy your C drive back into your A/B RAID. After booting from your RAID0 and then you can copy your data back from D to C (after reformatting C).
You cannot simply drag a drive from one to the other to copy it. It will not work as a boot drive doing that.
Keep in mind, if you do this, your A/B RAID has no backup. If you screw up an installation and hose it, you have nothing to fall back on. Time machine alone, or SuperDuper set to clone every day, or any of the commercial backup (or at least some of them) will give you more safety than a RAID0. RAID0 is great to save you from a single drive crashing, but more often than not the problem is installing some nasty piece of software that screws things up royally and RAID0 is wortheless for that. With your scenario, I'd buy another 250 so you can backup the RAID to that on a regular basis so if you totally screw up something you have a real bootable "last-known-good" image. After that get ANOTHER backup going to rotate off-site to save you from thieves and fires. At that point you can smile and know you really are reasonably safe. There are other ways to do this as others will explain. Several ways to skin this cat, but this is one option that will work.

  • Can't get Vista 64-bit to format Boot Camp partition

Okay. I went through all the normal steps, I checked back here, read as many threads as I could, and still nothing has worked. The core problem is that after I use boot camp to partition my drive, I boot into the Vista DVD, it sees the partition, I use the Format button to format it to NTSF, it does, then it says "Windows cannot find a suitable volume for installation".
    Here's my setup:
Mac Pro 2.8 GHz 8 core, 10 GB RAM, 8800GT card.
3 internal HDs, 2 500 GB drives for my system, apps and media stuff, and 1 250 GB drive just for Windows.
Vista Ultimate 64-bit (yes, a real store-bought copy) Note that this is an OEM copy that's 64-bit ONLY, as opposed to the retail version that has 32-bit and 64-bit on the same DVD.
    Here's what I've tried:
    - Zeroed out all data on the Win drive, formatted as OS X extended, used Boot Camp to partition for Windows
    - Formatted drive as OS X extended, then used Boot Camp to partition it into a 5 GB OS X volume and a ~230 GB Win volume
    - Used Boot Camp to partition it as a single Windows volume
    - Used Boot Camp to partition it as a single Windows volume, then tried to install Vista onto it without formatting it to NTSF
    - In the Vista installer, tried deleting the main partition, creating a new one, then formatting it
    - In the Vista installer, tried deleting both partitions (including the 200 GB EFI one that Boot Camp creates) and recreating them
In every one of these cases, after Vista formatted the partition it would not allow me to install Vista onto it, saying it couldn't find a suitable volume for installation.
I noticed that when Boot Camp does it's thing to your drive, it's supposed to create a partition named BOOTCAMP. In my case, it failed to do that when I told Boot Camp to create a single Windows partition on the drive. Instead, the drive would simply disappear from my desktop. It would then show up in the Vista installer, but it had no name. It just said Drive 1 Partition.
However, when I used Boot Camp to partition the drive into a 5 GB OS X volume and a ~230 GB Windows volume, it did create the BOOTCAMP volume and mounted it on the desktop, in addition to the 5 GB Untitled OS X volume. And in the Vista installer it did show up named BOOTCAMP, however formatting it had the same results as all my other attempts.
So after doing this for over 5 hours today, I don't know what the problem is. Nothing I've done, either in Boot Camp or in the Vista installer, is letting me install Vista onto the volume. Vista is simply refusing to install onto my drive no matter how it's been erased, partitioned or formatted. I don't know if this is a problem with the Boot Camp drivers, or with Vista. Maybe it's something to do with this Mac, it's pretty new just got it last week, there's a lot of variables here. The Mac is 100% perfect in all other ways though.
    Any suggestions?

It worked! The only way I could get it to work was to pull out both my 500 GB drives so that the boot camp drive was the only one left. And even though the drive wasn't named BOOTCAMP Vista finally installed onto it. So it looks like the bug is just in Vista's installer - specifically that it appears to ignore the fact that you've selected the correct partition to install onto, and it gets confused if you have multiple HDDs installed.
Once Vista installed everything else went fine. I put my drives back in, updated Vista, installed the Boot Camp drivers and it's peachy now. Thanks again for the help.

    Hi,
Troubleshooting a start up script can be difficult. There are some third party programs that also keep logs of start up programs, however for Firefox this may be different.
Is Firefox a startup program? [http://www.winxptutor.com/msinfo32.htm]
Its also possible to check the Web developer tools for any scripts in a page: [https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Tools/Debugger]
In the control panel there is also Administrative tools to view event logs, but this may be something a local technician can walk you through.

Why does Quicktime tell me it can't play certain videos created with my Phantom 2 v3 drone ? I fly the drone and switch back and forth from video to still pics and while I may have filmed four videos , sometimes Quicktime tells me that one of them can't be played . Checking the info shows that each of the unplayed videos was saved in the same mp4 format as the playable ones yet some of my most important videos won't play . It's getting very frustrating .

first; I use Perian, that helps even though it is no longer supported, (must have for avi files)
the apple-cores at apple have gotten very sloppy -- quicktime is a bit finicky and flakey.
example,   occasionally (when copy file from quad's card to hard drive)  the avi will show up as a 'mov' file and qt plays it no problem and no conversion.
but that is very occasionally,  most of the time qt won't convert the file,   -- iMovie won't open an avi without Perian installed  ,  I don't know how that effects qt.
qt 7"pro" is no good either, (qt 10 does everything it does and for NOT the extra $35)
I have gone to VLC  and MPlayerX  for direct playback for drones and cameras.

  • How can I play an audio CD with QT 7.1.6?

I want to play an audio CD with QuickTime 7.1.6.
When I click on Open file and select the CD drive, change th file type to Audio Files and mark "Open as read-only" nothing is displayed. When I change to "All Files (.)" the tracks are showed with an ".cda" extension. When I dobleclick on a track, I get the Error -2048: the file is not a movie file.
How can I play an audio CD with QuickTime 7.1.6?

I confirm your issue as I just tried an audio CD in my XP laptop. "All Files" showed only the 44 byte .cda files and no others. QuickTime couldn't open them (error -2048).
I also tried "Open File" with version 7 Pro and it couldn't open.
Odd that I get the option to open using iTunes and it opens and plays just fine. Since iTunes uses the QuickTime engine I would have thought QuickTime could read the files directly.
The same audio CD inserted in my Mac allowed me to double click any track and it opened directly in QuickTime Player. The files show as .aiff files measured in MB's.
Windows users could open an audio CD in iTunes and then convert to .aiff (no compression) and then open the .aiff in QuickTime.
I guess I should have tried myself before getting your hopes up. I apologize.

If you don't have iTunes installed on your laptop then you can download and install it from here : http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
You can then log into your account on it via the Store > Sign In menu option (on iTunes 11 on a PC you can get the menus to show via control-B) :
And you can then select the Store on the left-hand sidebar (you can enable the sidebar via control-S), and then browse items in the store and buy them by clickin on their price.

Yes you can use two (or more) AppleTVs with one iTunes library. They can both stream from iTunes (or the internet) at the same time, as long as you have a good working LAN and internet connection.

Can i have multiple iCloud accounts with the same Apple id

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
No, your ID is essentially your account. You can have email aliases and you can have multiple accounts, but I don't think that's what you are asking.

I created my Apple ID in Ireland, but would now like to switch to a German Apple ID, keeping the same email address. How do I delete my old Irish Apple ID, so I can create a new German one with the same email?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Click on your account name in the top right corner of the iTunes store in the iTunes application on your computer, enter your password and click the "view account" button. Navigate to the Apple ID summary where you have the option to "change country or region".
In order to change your location, you will need a credit card registered to an address in the location you are trying to change to.
You cannot change your location if you have credit on your account, if you are unable to spend your credit and leave a balance of zero, contact Apple, which you can do through iTunes Store Support.

How can I set up two iPhones with the same contact, photos, music etc... but a different sim card and phone number. They will both be my phones, but one will be for use in other countries.

Phone A = phone with information you want duplicated
Phone B = phone that you want to copy from A
    Backup Phone A.
Wipe Phone B using these instructions. What to do before selling or giving away your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Phone B should be on the 'Hello' screen. Do not swipe it. Launch iTunes. Plug in Phone B.
When iTunes asks if you want to set up as new phone or restore from backup, choose restore from backup of Phone A.
After this setup, any changes to one phone (i.e. adding a contact, downloading an app) will have to be manually duplicated on the second phone, if that is your desire). Making changes to one phone will not affect the other after setup.
