i have my old PC with XP Pro installed but it's been years since i purchased the computer and no longer have the installation disc. Can i still run boot camp without the disc?

You mean, Can I still run boot camp without Windows? because that is what you will have, one empty boot camp partition. Buy a copy of Windows 7.

I have some older computer games, specifically Warhammer 40k rts games, that I woud still like to play and was curious if boot camp would allow me to play those on my mac? Yes. There are several ways to run Windows on the Mac:
Windows on Intel Macs

Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

with earlier Windows versions (XP or Vista) this was definitely possible to do.
I am not that sure if there are problems with Windows 7 doing this.

I can't remember everything I've read here in the Community, I still have my Windows XP laptop, haven't used it except to transport videos. Can I use Boot Camp to partition & install the XP on my Dec 2012 Mac Mini? Running Mountain Lion 10.8.5. I still have my Seagate ext HD 1.5 TB, connected to the Mini, but haven't reset it to Mac only. I'm having a slight prob with memory loss, mine, not the Mac's. I think I read that I can't do this with Mountain Lion, but when I try to find what I think I read, it's so far back, I can't get to it. Please help? Thanks in advance.

The Late 2012 Mac mini only supports 64-bit Windows 7 and 8 versions, so you can't install Windows XP with Boot Camp.
If you need Windows XP, download an application like Parallels, VMware Fusion or VirtualBox, create a virtual machine and install Windows XP there. You shouldn't have any RAM problem with Windows XP.
OS X can copy to FAT and exFAT drives, so you can format your external drive in "MS-DOS (FAT)". First, open Finder, choose your external drive in the sidebar and copy all the files to the desktop. Boot Camp wasn't designed to install Linux. Apart from that, the Boot Camp version included in OS X Mountain Lion will ask you to insert a Windows 7 or Windows 8 DVD in order to run Boot Camp, as far as I know.
Apple doesn't support Linux on Macs, but it works properly on Macs. There are a lot of how-to's in the Internet about the steps to install Linux and the different possibilities you have. Also, what distribution do you want to install on the computer? You should also consider the option to install Linux on a virtual machine

Boot Camp is not virtualization; it boots Windows natively on the Mac hardware. So Boot Camp would be irrelevant to running Snow Leopard Server. Parallels and VMWare Fusion both have at least "experimental" support for running Snow Leopard Server in a virtual machine on Mac OS X, though I don't know how robust it is as of this time. You might ask for opinions on the Parallels or VMWare forums.

OSX tiger installed, can I use boot camp

Looking on the apple websire it seems that i can only use leopard for an OS if i want to use Boot camp, am I understanding this right?
Just wanted to be sure before i bought leopard just so i can run boot camp. I have had my mac a year and actually found a need to run windows, and nothing else will work as well.

Can't use Boot Camp due to error with files

I am trying to partition the hard drive on my mac and install windows so that i can run windows based programs and other reasons, but my mac is not new and it is harder than brain surgery to locate all the files i need to back up and the ones i dont. when i open boot camp, it starts partitioning the hard drive for a few minutes and i get the error message: The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved. Back up the disk and use disk utility to format it as single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again. i cant format the disk because the computer only has one disk. and i cant format it. Please help!

A very good way to handle this is to buy CarbonCopyClone ($40 download) and an external drive. Then clone your startup disk to the external, and clone it back.
What has happened is that after several years you have created so many tiny unused disk spaces (some only 1 or 2 blocks large) that OSX cannot relocate everything and make room. When you "clone back", all files will be in a large section at the bottom of the available disk space and there will be plenty of room for BootCamp.

I concur with dalstott with the following additional information:
1. I am currently typing on my 2009 MBP. I installed Windows XP in Bootcamp soon after I purchased it. I then upgraded it to Snow Leopard and then later to Lion, and Lion is what I run today.
Bootcamp continues to function with Windows XP installed. I also have Parallels 7, and, as one of the features of Parallels, I am able to use the Bootcamp partition to run Windows XP within Parallels, as well, for concurrent use of Windows XP and Mac OS X Lion (saving me the duplication of hard disk space if I had to have both the Bootcamp partition and the very large file that Parallels would create for Windows XP).
2. There may well be a way for you to install Bootcamp and Windows XP in Mountain Lion without restoring Snow Leopard:
This method requires access to a WIndows 7 upgrade disc, but you do not need the serial number and you never actually upgrade to WIndows 7 (stop after Step 8):
User Tip: BootCamp - Install Windows XP & then Windows 7
NOTE: Although the author of this User Tip suggests that it will work on all Macs running Mt. Lion, if you read the thread, you will see that others have had problems, and my post suggesting that this method will only work if the Mac could originally install Bootcamp with Windows XP such as yours and mine.
3. While searching for tip #2, I also came up with this suggestion:

Well, I have a husband who could do this and a friend of my husband's who can also but they REFUSE to help me or at least keep forgetting (conveniently). Niels approach to get the BootCamp Assistant back is recommended because usually the correct way to remove your Windows partition is to use the BootCamp Assistant again which should give you the option to remove the made Windows partition and revert back to one OSX volume.
After that's done a reboot of your Mac might be advisable.
Only if that's not working (whatever the reason) :
1) boot your Mac from your OSX install DVD
2) choose your language and then 'ignore' (cancel) the installation
3) from the Top Menu (Utilities) start Disk Utility (DU)
4) in DU click on your harddisk (not any partition) in the left pane (the first item listed)
5) in the right pane use the 'Partition'-Tab
6) click to highlight on the ex-Windows partition you want to delete
7) click on the small '-' Button at the bottom
That should delete your former Windows partition
After that's done successfully
8) Drag the partition separator line until it encompasses the entire drive and then select apply.
9) Quit Disk Utility
10) reboot your Mac from your harddisk.
Since you are 'fumbling' with your OSX partition you should consider having/making a backup of it before trying the a.m. procedure. Just in case.

Can't Use Boot Camp, HD Error

I decided to sit down this weekend and set up a Windows XP partition on my fairly new MacBook Pro. Unfortunately, it said it couldn't create a partition and to run disk utility to fix the drive. So, I did, and it repaired some permissions and the like, but when it went to verify the disk, it ran into a series of errors...

Checking Catalog hierarchy.

(It should be 3 instead of 4)

Is my hard drive borked? I only bought this a few months ago and purchased AppleCare...

Boot from your install DVD and run your Disk Utility from there. Or, try running fsck.
1. Reboot/Startup holding your Command-S key down.
2. At the command line type the following and hit 'Return.'
/sbin/fsck -fy
3. After it has check/repaired your disk, type 'reboot' and hit 'Return' again. Unit should bootup normally.
If neither work, have Apple look at is as long as it's under warranty. They will most likely replace the drive.

Is there a way to still have a scratch disc and use boot camp ? it seems to kill my windows install after.

Photoshop only has one Color Palette. If you could script something like a Color Palette with two sets of active sliders the script would be in control till you dismissed its sliders dialog. You would not be able to do anything but adjust the script's sliders in Photoshop while the script dialog window is being displayed. Photoshop Scripting does not have real palette dialog type support.
I do not know what is possible with Photoshop extensions using HTML 5 Panels.....
