HT1461 Office for Mac and Lion / Mountain Lion

Hi everybody,
Could you tell me if Microsoft office applications will run under OS X Lion or Mountain Lion?
Because I'm using now Office Mac 11 with Snow Leopard OS X vers 10.6.8, and I'm expecting to update to Mountain Lion if...
Thanks a lot for replies

Microsoft Office 2011 works fine (well, as fine as Office ever works ) on OS X 10.7 Lion. Any information provided about Mountain Lion comes from developers using beta versions of that OS (and violating their agreements with Apple by commenting on it) and may or may not hold true with the public version of Mountain Lion. Contact Microsoft for full compatibility information, though they probably will not post details until ML is released.
Regards.

  • Is anyone else having problems with Office for Mac and Lion?

Since installing Lion 10.7.1 on a macbook pro 2.53 Ghz 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3 I have had no end of problems. Both Excel and Word hang, crash and saving an Excel file is a pain. A 12mb spread sheet just took 4 minutes to save! I have MS Office for Mac 2011 version 14.1.3.
Another problem that may not be related to Office is that opening Finder is so slow and most of the time it takes a minute to display folders in Desktop or Documents.
Any suggestions would be welcome .. I regret installing Lion .. I had no problems with Snow Leopard!

  • Before I transfer files from my PC to the new imac should I load office for Mac and parallees? Will this mean I have to open the new account on my imac first and thus have two user accounts when I transfer the PC? I would prefer to only have one account.

IIt was in my mind to load office then transfer. After to load paralels and transfer my windows system. I have a new copy of office for Mac plus paralels PC to Mac transfer version 8. As this is my first mac (I have ipads and iphones) I am unsure of what to do. Also to confuse matters I use a windows laptop as my sync machine for the phones and ipads (i do have a cloud account with backup) can I transfer both machines to my new imac? I will have a 1tb fusion drive + 2tb time capsule although I only have less than 400GB of data on both machines. Hope this is not too confusing for everyone but I am looking forward to sorting this mess out by just using the one machine.

Use the Office for Mac and ignore using Parallels for that. If you have PC only apps you have to run that are MS Windows only then consider Parallels. Just transfer your main PC, using Migration Assistant.  If you don't know how then simply read over Pondini's article called Lion or Mountain Lion Setup Assistant tips and look for the section on migrating from a PC. Millions have done what you are about to, it's far from leading edge these days, if you go to an Apple Store to purchase they will offer this as a service, something you might be interested in.

There isn't one on Apple's site, but if you have the product key, there's one on Microsoft's site. Click here.

  • Is there a difference between microsoft office for mac and for windows?

As a college student it's important that everything is equal for windows and mac for using instructions. So i am wondering if theres a difference between microsoft office for mac and for windows?

There are differences between the two version of Office. If you need to be exactly like the Windows version, you will have to run Windows on your Mac.

  • Installing microsoft office for mac and getting prompt for installer password.  i have put in apple id password and admin password and not working, i have also reset my admin password 3 times and it is still not working? how do i get past this?

installing microsoft office for mac and getting prompt for installer password.  i have put in apple id password and admin password and not working, i have also reset my admin password 3 times and it is still not working? how do i get past this?

You don't use your Apple ID or its password to install anything on your Mac. You use the admin account's name and password.
Use the name and password you last entered when resetting them. The "name" you use is not the short name of the admin account folder.
For example. If you create an admin account of John Smith, the short name given to that account's folder will be johnsmith. So when an app requests an admin name and password to install something, the admin name you enter is John Smith, not johnsmith.

  • I just bought the Office for Mac and when I tried to install it, they ask me for my password. I dont remember it, what do I do?

I am trying to install Office for Mac and they asked my password. I dont remember, what can I do???

If you do have password setup on your computer & you get a window asking for one for an app, leave the entry blank and click the OK button or whatever button it has.
Care to share which OS you are using?

  • MS Office for Mac crashes in Mountain Lion

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion yesterday, none of my MS Office for Mac (2008) programs launch - anyone know if there's a fix for that? Of course, I can't run any updates etc as it hangs at the splash screen.
I don't have the discs any longer (lost in a move) and I begrudge buying another version when I only use it to open documents people send me in Word, etc. I use the iWork suite myself but need to be able to open Word & Excel and make changes.
Anyone know of a fix for getting them working again (ideally) or at least a workaround if I can download something else (e.g. a 'lite' version or something) to open them and edit.
    Thanks in advance.

That's weird because I'm running MSOffice 2008 in Mountain Lion without any trouble. I also use Office 2011 without any issues.
I can only assume that you didn't install ML correctly.
    Try installing ML again, maybe?
Also make sure that the folder "Microsoft Office 2008"  is in your "Applications" folder and not nested inside any other folder. ML doesn't like you keeping your applications anywhere other than directly in the "Applications" folder.
BTW in my opinion LibreOffice is better than OpenOffice - although it's still clunky.

  • Trying to delete Office for Mac and getting this message: The operation can't be completed because the item "com.microsoft.DocumentConnection.plist" is in use.

I am trying to remove Office for Mac from my Macbook Air. I've deleted the files and moved to Trash, but can not empty Trash. This message continues to display when I attempt to empty Trash and thereby delete all Microsoft plist files...

You can't delete Office simply by throwing the app in the trash.
Here are the instructions for removing it, follow them exactly.

  • Font compatibility with Office (for Mac and Windows)

    Hi,
Despite extensive searching, I'm struggling with a font compatibility issue between my Mac and my colleagues' PCs. The main points in order:
The fonts work correctly on both my Mac and other PCs.
The font in question is HelveticaNeueLT Std, rolled up into which are several different weights. The files are OTF files. The same files install without any problems on all the computers in question (and show up in Font Book). And the font can be used successfully:
    - in Keynote, I select Helvetica Neue LT Std, and underneath choose whichever weight I want
    - on PCs, the font and weight can be selected from the drop-down list in MS Office.
    - in Office for Mac 2016 (Preview), I cannot select the font from the drop-down list, but can hit Cmd+T, and then select the appropriate font and weight under 'Latin text font'. What is odd is that in the dropdown list, only a particular weight/typeface is shown:
As this is a preview version, I wouldn't expect Office to work perfectly just yet...
When a file is created on a PC, it works fine on my Mac.
Every file I have attempted to open that was created on a PC, and using these fonts, works fine. The fonts display correctly (i.e. including the correct weights), and I can work with the document without any problems. The only odd bit: sometimes in the dropdown box on my Mac it then says (null):
Whereas at other times, the font name shows correctly:
Both of those examples were created using the 'Thin' weight of HelveticaNeueLt Std. I can't see any pattern as to what causes this inconstency.
The problem is that what I create on my Mac shows incorrectly on a PC.
If I create anything using Office 2016 or Keynote, selecting the preferred weight as described above, it shows just fine on my Mac. But when I send the PPTX file to a PC, all weights look identical (it looks as though the PC has just displayed everything in a standard weight). This is the problem I am trying to solve.
To try to get around this, I tried the process of removing the Helvetica/Helvetica Neue .dfont files that come with the Mac - but this didn't work and caused several other problems. Besides, the font I'm trying to get to use as intended has a different name.
All help would be greatly appreciated - my thanks in advance.
    John

Thanks Kappy and apologies if it is inappropriate - but just to clarify, my main question is whether fonts used in Keynote should be compatible with other software (in this case Office running on Windows). The Office for Mac Preview is a bit of a red herring but I thought it should be mentioned.
I tried to clarify my first post, but it didn't work. What I wanted to add was simply whether Keynote handles fonts in a way that other pieces of software struggle to read - despite the font itself working perfectly in both environments.

  • Windows compatibility; Delete key, view, Office for Mac and  Hassels

    Dear Friends
I liked the style of the Mac powerbook, and after years of happy use of a Samsung notebook, I decided to take the plunge and buy a Mac. I amlo liked the idea of contributing to diversiy and not putting all my bucks in Gates's basket! People assured me there would be no compatibility problems bwteeen Office for PC and Office for Mac. So I moved from PC to Mac, but have had lots of problems. I have a powerbook 12". My main issues are that:
    1. Word and Powerpoint for Mac do not always convert properly when I take my files to work where I have to use PC. I find editing in powerpoint for Mac less easy than PPT for windows. Before an important presentation at an international conference recenly, the file I worked on on my Mac came out all funny when I loaded it onto the windows laptop that was already set up. I lost a good five minutes ******* around beore an international audience. Someitmes formatting in Word for Mac jumps and highlights and bold and bullet points go all srtrange or are lost when I take the file to work.
    2. The keyboard of the Mac is frustrating. I usually delete rightward; to do this on a Mac I have to hold down Fn and then delete, i.e. two finger operation. I always screw up since I am so used to the delete key on my PC and my brain gets in a twist. Is there a way I can change this?
    3. The power book is quite heavy (a simple moan as I travle a lot).
    4. Word, PPT and internet pages do not cover the whole screen, just the left half to three quarters, with a strip of unused screen on the right. I have been unable to make word for Mac ect cover the whole screen, so I always have to adjust the view size and then half the text is cut off. I would like to see the whole screen used. This is frustrating as the Mac has a kind of grainy screen.
    Any suggestions?
    Chris

    1. For problems related to Microsoft Office you should post your questions to Microsoft's own Mac discussions:
    http://www.microsoft.com/mac/community/community.aspx?pid=newsgroups
    2. If you want to "forward-delete" on a Mac without hitting the function key, then you'll have to purchase a full size Apple USB keyboard.
    3. Sorry. Can't help with that one. Maybe you should have bough a ligther 15" Powerbook.
    4. Again, sorry, but that's not a bug, it's a learning curve. Longtime Windows users seem to be more often than not used to working with applications and windows that cover the whole screen. Mac users generally don't. Just drag the windows over to the right or click the green maximize button at the top left of each window.

  • Office for Mac and Office for Windows XP compatibility issues?

Trying to convince a family member to make the Mac switch. She uses Office for Windows XP at work but might use Office for Mac at home. Will there be an compatibiity issues with the programs? She is a heavy Excel user and takes a lot of work home. If she has to rearrange cells and fonts and such each and every, it would drive her (and the rest of us) insane.
Any advice would be most welcome.
She is looking into either a Macbook Air or Macbook Pro. Putting Windows on the Mac is not really an option for us.
    Thanks Community!

Or I could just download the trial version and see how that works.

Thanks for putting me in the right direction, anyway!
