HT1461 Windows parallel 8

Hi I have dowload parallels 8 to my Mac and then I downloded and install windows 8  to BootCamp .When Installation finished and I re started my Pc only Windows 8 coming I can not see Mac anymore. My question how I will use the Mac and How I will switch windows and mac at the same time? Thanx

When you install Windows, your computer starts by default in Windows. To start in OS X, hold the Option (Alt) key while your Mac is starting and select Macintosh HD, or hold the X key while your computer is starting.
If you can't start in OS X after trying these steps, you deleted OS X, so you have to erase the hard disk and install OS X. To do it, use Internet Recovery holding Command, Option and R keys while your computer is starting, erasing the hard disk with Disk Utility

  • Windows Parallel for my .exe files

I have .exe files on a CD that I need to run. I have downloaded the Windows Parallels and it's up and running. I have tried several ways, but I can't even begin to find the files I need to run from Windows Parallel...I have my disc in, but it is saying I need to insert a disc. I tried copying the files on the desktop but I can't see my desktop from my Windows Parralel screen. Please help.

It sounds to me like you have not actually installed Windows XP. Parallels is just a program that allows you to run one operating system (Windows) within another (OS X). You will need to actually install Windows within Parallels (or using Apple's free BootCamp)... and then you can install all of your Windows programs within Windows.

  • Installing windows parallel and partitioning MacBook harddrive

I'm hoping this will be straight forward.
I've Windows Parallel program that I want to install on the MacBook 13" and want to
partition the MacBook drive so that it runs a good percentage of this (Windows Parallel) program.
But also leave enough space so that it can run OS Leopard on it and few programs without causing
    any conflicts.
Appreciate any thoughts as I want to load this in a few hours.
Do I need to do anything beforehand to partition the drive for Windows?
Also I'll be adding MicroSoft 2003 after WP is loaded.
    thanks in advance ~A~

Please explain what application that you're speaking of. There is a program called Parallels Desktop by which one may run ms windows on a Mac but your description doesn't match its behavior. If you've purchased a software package, please indicate the title of it so that the forum may be of assistance. -GDF

  • Windows Parallel on Mac

Hello, i just got a mac book pro, really like it, but i still need to use some windows based application.
Is it alright for me to use Windows Parallel? i hear it is not good for my mac, please advice.
    Thanks

    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
         1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows
XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  For Boot Camp
4.0 and above you can only use Windows 7 or later. Follow
instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on
installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and
installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the
computer into OS X or Windows.
         2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business,
Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software
virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently
             with OS X.
         3. VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate,
or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that
enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
         4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows
applications without having to install Windows.  The
Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
         5. VirtualBox is an Open Source freeware virtual machine such
as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.
It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM
             Fusion.
Note that VirtualBox, Parallels, and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech Labs- Virtualization Benchmarks, January 2013 | MacTech for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • Windows Parallel

First time to the site, brand new Mac User. I'm a photographer who is transitioning from Windows to the Mac, but having real problems with Mac's new Intel Processor. Not that the processor is poor, but new drivers are either non-existant or difficult to set up.
Is there a question already on this site that I can go to for information using Windows Parallel?
My thought is I might need it to drive my Fuji and Epson printers.
I also have concerns about what parallel might do to the Mac considering Apple will not give any guidance on the issue.
I would appreciate any advice in this matter.

Since Parallels is not an Apple product, you'd be better off posting your question on the Parallels discussion forums:

  • Can no longer opt boot to Windows; Parallels and Boot Camp issues

So I was reinstalling my Parallels since it wasn't reading my Boot Camp partition correctly and I removed my old boot camp profile in Parallels. I figured this would only affect Parallels. After all, I was going to make a new one since my Parallels wasn't working very well. The removal of the profile seemed painless and it was instantaneous (so I don't think it formatted the partition). I then went to restart, and now my comp won't boot to the partition.
I can no longer view (or access) my files from Windows. I panicked and restored the profile from the trash, but I still can't access the partition. I can't even see Windows from the Start Up disk, but Parallels can detect that I have Windows 7 (even though it won't boot properly). What do I need to do to be able to get my Windows partition back? Do you have any idea whats going on with my comp? Can the removal of a virtual machine profile delete an entire OS in an instant?
Disk Utility says that my partition needs to be repaired, but I don't want to do anything until I get an expert opinion.

Please tell me what I need to do! Thank you!

This is a table I use to verify that Testdisk is correct.
    GPT 3 Start
    GPT 3 Size
    GPT 3 End
    NTFS Start
    Sector Offset
    NTFS Size
    NTFS End

    586151936
    104
    390621177
    976773113
Leave your Testdisk display and start a new Terminal Window. Please use the following steps. The 104 sector positive offset is a good sign.
You need to use the following steps. If you see any error messages during the following steps, please stop and post back here with the error message. The following steps have values from your Testdisk output (and you can verify) in Steps 7 and 8.
    Rebuild GPT4 using start/end offsets
    Sudo gdisk /dev/rdisk0
P  (print the full list of parts)
    D  (delete)
    4  (part 4)
    N  (new part)
    4   (part 4)
586151936 - Start offset in bytes  (start point for Bootcamp part)
+ 390621177 - (Size offset as opposed to End offset)
    0700     (Windows part type)
P           (print list of all parts just to see what changes will be made)
    W         (Write the new GPT)
Y           (Yes! really write the new GPT)
This will delete and re-write the GPT partition info for /dev/disk0s4.
Rebuild MBR to match the new GPT information thus resetting the Hybrid MBR. Use defaults for other questions (like partition codes). The only values that need modifications are the Boot flags and step 6. Accept all other defaults that Gdisk offers.
    Sudo gdisk /dev/disk0
    P  (Print list of parts)
    R   (Recover)
    H (chooses Hybrid)
Partitions numbers to be hybridized: 2 3 4
    Y (Good for GRUB question)
    N (part 2 boot flag)
    N (part 3 boot flag)
Y  (part 4 boot flag make NTFS bootable partition)
    W  (Write the new MBR)
Y    (Yes! write the new MBR)
    Reboot
Here is an example of the Q&A in the second set of commands.
Place EFI GPT (0xEE) partition first in MBR (good for GRUB)? (Y/N): Y
Creating entry for GPT partition #2 (MBR partition #2)
Enter an MBR hex code (default AF): Press Enter/Return
Set the bootable flag? (Y/N): N
Creating entry for GPT partition #3 (MBR partition #3)
Enter an MBR hex code (default AB): Press Enter/Return
Set the bootable flag? (Y/N): N

  • Internal 3TB Cavier Green WD Hard Disk not detect on mac but detected on Windows (Parallels

I bought a 3TB Cavier Green Western Digital and I have a Astone external 3.5 case. I attached both of this together and hook up USB to my Mac mini. It seems like my Disk Utility doesn't detect my 3TB at all, at first I thought my hard drive has a problem. So I open up Windows 8 on my Mac running Parallels and try it, It works perfectly and detected on Windows via Parallels and apprently it also detected on my Dell Inspiron Laptop. So I don't know what happen to Mac, it seems like Mac OS X doesn't want to detect the 3TB at all. Is there anything I can do?

I can guarantee you that it work seamlessly on Windows with the same enclosure, Windows 8 running Paralles on my Mac and Windows 7 on Dell Inspiron showing me 2794.52GB. I am running Mountain Lion 10.8.2. I already check the System Profiler on my Mac where you click the System Report>USB. It can be detect, but not detail.  I will try to run Terminal app in few days and will update you again. I emailed Western Digital. At the moment, this is what they ask me to do.
Please connect your drive onto a working computer with pure Windows environment and perform an "Extended Test" to test your drive for problems using Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows. Kindly go to the link below if you need assistance:
    http://wdc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wdc.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=940
Please provide us the screenshot of the test result so we may verify the cause of the issue.
The "Extended Test" is going to take me 53 hours.
Do you think the next update 10.8.3 will help me? Because I read about BootCamp able to support 3TB hard drive.

  • Which is better to run Quicken for Windows - Parallels or CrossOver?

I have the latest version of Parallels Desktop 8 for Macintosh. I use Windows Vista Home Edition with it. The only Windows program I need to run is Quicken 2013 Deluxe for Windows which runs a little slow on Parallels. Does anyone know if the latest version of CrossOver would allow the Quicken program to run quicker? The CrossOver site says it runs Windows programs natively on the Mac. Does natively mean quicker? I'd rather not clog up my computer with Windows if I don't need it.

I'm designing a form that will act as a full screen menu to control access to a large number of forms & reports. Since call_form & run_report_object search for forms & reports on Windows using the forms_path & reports_path I was considering using URLs and the web.show_document built-in to run each form & report from the menu form that was why I was asking if there are any advantages of one method over another.

  • Acrobat Pro 7 for MS Windows/ Parallels in MAC

    Hi,
I replaced my old PC with MacBook Pro.  I have some MS/ PC based applications that I still need to use as part of frequent tools; hence, I reinstall my previously purchased Acrobat 7 Pro license.  When I am about to use it is requires that I activate it again. To activate it again, I need an authorization code.  Since there is a technical issue with earlier version, I was told that I need to download the newer version with the fixes. To install it, I have to remove the one that I installed earlier.  I did uninstall it by "Move To Trash" action in MAC.  I tried downloading it again and Parallels/ Windows is still detecting that there is an Acrobat 7 installed.  How can I clean and clear the previously installed Acrobat 7 Pro so I can download the fixed version?

Unfortunately, the trash has been emptied already.  AA7 is running on Windows 7 with Parallels.  I used to have a PC with XP but it will no longer be supported by MS and hence no fixes and development to be made on it.  I few PC-based applications that I access with Windows  7+ Parallels on my MAC. Would it be safe for me to use the cleaner tool to remove any Adobe on my hard-drive?
I selected Windows 7 as that is the recommended OS to use with MAC/Parallels and AA 7.
Help/feedback much appreciated to resolve this issue.
    Thank you.

  • Running Windows, Parallels? Boot Camp?

I've used boot camp very successfully with my mac desktop, but I'm hoping to receive a macbook (the black one) for christmas, and I'm hoping for a better option when using windows. I tried parallels with one of my older, clunkier macs (the one that's full of my movies, music, etc.) and it ran very slow, and it was nearly impossible to run other programs alongside it. Has anyone else had this problem, or is it fairly easy for you to run Parallels with other programs? I really love the malleability of parallels compared to boot camp. The idea of partitioning a large portion of my hard drive in a fairly permanent way is not very appealing to me. Any suggestions?

    1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software. Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak 2 or Vista. Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows. Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.

    5. VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris. It is not yet fully developed for the Mac - some features are not yet implemented - but it does work otherwise.
    6. Last is Q. Q is a freeware emulator that is compatible with Intel Macs. It is much slower than the virtualization software, Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc. There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard. The Boot Camp Beta that was used with Tiger has expired and is no longer available for use. So contrary to the other poster's comment, Boot Camp isn't truly "free." You must purchase Leopard to get it.

  • How can I upgrade windows parallels desktop, now moved to Incompatible Software?

I just upgraded the OS to Mountain Lion and was surprised to learn that my Parallels desktop will not work.  It seems my Mac suggests that I buy the software again, but surely it must be possible to upgrade it?  I am a rather new Mac user and am rather lost

    HI,
For reference, I am running Parallels 7.0.15106.786747 under Mountain Lion with a Windows 7 Ultimate VM without major issues. The only problem I have encountered is an unresponsive Parallels menu once the VM is up and running. I have to shut show the VM and restart Parallels in order to access the menu items (e.g., to get the version number for this post).

  • Can't use multiple cell delete function in excel running windows parallel

Does anyone know how to delete muliple cells in an excel spreadsheet, running windows 7 using parallel operating system?  When I click on multiple cells and hit the <delete> key only the one cell within the top left of the range deletes, the remaining highlited range does not.  The only way (I have found) is to right click the highlited range and use the command <clear contents>.  Anyone?  Anyone?

After I posted this query, another link came up:
Select the cells you want to delete --> hold down the function key ----> press delete

I own a mac book pro 13" and I use parallels for work and desperately need the "pause" key that used to be on my PC.  It is the equivalent of the f15 key.  My keyboard only goes up to f12 and I have looked in here and on google and can't figure it out.  doesn't anyone have ideas?
    Thanks!

I have found the solution for myself for the above.  I use a specific scripting program which is accessed by Control A. To pause it, you need to use Control B. not sure if this would work for any other application but it resolves my dilemma after hours of trying!

I just upgraded to Yosemite and I cannot open Parallels.  I am clicking on it and nothing happens.

What version of Parallels are you using? I received a notice that 9 is compatible, but must upgrade to latest version. To take full advantage of Yosemite they recommended purchasing an upgrade to Parallels 10. I have the latest 9 version, with XP installed and it is working fine (if I must use Publisher!)
