  • Audiobooks in Music Library

I use my 30GB ipod almost exclusively for audiobooks and podcasts. All the audiobooks are ripped. The podcasts go into the podcast 'folder' under Library in itunes and show up under podcasts on the ipod which is what I want the audiobooks to do in an audiobook folder. BUT the audiobooks just go in My Music. How do I get them in an audiobook 'folder' so that everything in the My Music folder or Library is just my music. There is an audiobook folder on my ipod (empty) but no folder in itunes. I mark the genre for all the books as 'books and spoken' but that doesn't take them into the audiobook folder. I updated itunes to the latest version, v8.0.1.11, just yesterday. Is there a way to create a new folder under 'Library' where the audiobooks will store?
    Thanks for any help,
    Kaye

Yup, alright, so by default your imported Audiobooks will go into Music, however you can put them into an Audiobooks category in iTunes.
First off, gather all of your audiobooks (or go one by one and do the following.)
-Right Click the track, and hit 'get info'
-Under the 'options' tab, find 'Media Type' and change it to Audiobook
Once you have done that for all of the tracks, you will want to make the audiobook section of your library visible if it is not. If not, go to iTunes Preferences, and check the "Audiobooks" box, and hit OK.
Now, all of your Audiobooks will be under the Audiobook section of your library on iTunes, and they will go to the Audiobooks section of your iPod.

  • ITunes 11 has moved most of my audiobooks to music, and greyed out the "audiobook" option in the info pane.  WHY?!?!?

Now I have a music library filled with audiobook content and music content all mixed up, playing EVERYTHING when I'm on shuffle because iTuness 11 has now also reset the previously-audiobook-now-music content not to be skipped in shuffle, and I can't fix it because the option is greyed out.  Can anybody help me?

Just an update, following last nights USB sync all music shows as In the library on my iPhone, however only the same 500 or so songs are playable, the rest go from appearing to be in the library to going into the cloud and starting to download when manually selected. If on shuffle the music skips over them. The iPhone  memory usage shows only about 10gb used most of which is for the iOS/apps, so once again my music library is not on my iPhone. Apple have managed to take a great product and turn it into a steaming pile of turd.

  • CD songs load as Audio book tracks. How can I get them into  music library?

    Greetings.
Strange. Some songs I've imported into iTunes from CDSs load into the Audiobooks folder. I can't drag them into the music folder. In one case, one song from one CD - but not any of the others - will only import as an audiobook. I can't even import it from my
Can anyone explain why this is happening and how I can get the songs into the music library?
    Thanks.

    In iTunes 8:
Select Track(s) > right click > get info
    Options tab > Media Kind
if you want the track to appear in Music select Music or Audiobook if you want it in the Audiobook tab.
It's also useful to set the Genre of audio books to something common (spoken, audiobook etc)

  • I have just put an audio book into my iTunes music library.  When I tried to transfer it to my iPod shuffle it rearranged the tracks so that they are in the wrong order.  How can I put them in the order they appear in the book?

I have just put an audio book into my iTunes music library.  When I tried to transfer it to my iPod Shuffle it put the chapters in the wrong order i.e. Chap 1, Chap 10, Chap 11 etc. rather than Chap 1, Chap 2, Chap 3 ...  How can I get it to put them in the order they appear in the book?

First, we need to know if the audiobook chapters are being treated by iTunes as music files or as audiobooks. If they are not audiobooks purchased from the iTunes store, they might be getting "shuffled". You will need to look at "File" - "Properties" (I think - I don't use iTunes under Windows - or right-click on the file and choose "properties") and look at the media type. If it is "Music", change it to "Audiobook". If this is not the problem, or does not fix anything, please post back.
Actually, looking at your post again, a second thought occurs to me - assuming there are less than 100 chapters in the book, just renaming them with a leading zero on the first nine chapters might do it. A computer will alphabetically sort filenames in the order you quote (1, 10, 11, 12, 13, ... 2, 21, etc.) but a leading zero will fix that (01, 02, 03 ... 10, 11, 12)

  • Is there any way that I can have songs in an iTunes Playlist without having the songs play in my regular music list.  For instance: can I have a Playlist of Christmas songs without having them play in the routine shuffle of my music library?  Thanks -Rog

Select the songs, press CTRL+I to Get Info, on the Options tab set Skip when shuffling to Yes.
If you want to the hide the songs from your main music view you could consider changing the media kind to audiobooks or podcasts if you don't mind the side effect of them showing up there instead.

It would be nice if you told others the steps you've tried and/or how you used to have your setup.
Anyway have you tried tapping MORE this will then bring you to
the selection-list of Audiobooks, Genres, Compilations & Composers.
Selecting Genres gives you a list of all your music split into genres which was set within the Music downloaded via iTunes or uploaded from CD or which you may have set yourself.
Then you just select the Genre you want:
If certent songs are not correctly gategorised you may need to go into iTunes and reselect via Get-info
    >Info>Genre and change it there. That way you should end up with all songs of Jazz or other in 1 place.

  • Is it common to keep a music library on an external drive now?

I did this about five years ago, when it was relatively new, and stopped because it was sometimes wonky. Given the popularity of the MacBook Air I'm thinking that perhaps the wrinkles might be ironed out? I have a very large music library (200 gig) and would love to move it to our Time Capsule. Does this make sense with a fleet of devices (iPad, iPod Touch, iPod Classic, Nano) and one main computer (MBP) on a very fast WiFi LAN? One more snowflake detail: Our Time Capsule began exhibiting to exhibit the odd "connection has been interrupted" error when I tried my Calibre Library on it. If you recommend going forward I'll just switch back if this becomes an issue. I mention it in case someone reading this knows of a workaround.
    I appreciate any help.

Brilliant; thank you! I hadn't heard about locking in the IP but it makes perfect sense. Should be easy to do in Airport Utility, too.
Only the first part of my question remains. Does keeping a music library on an external drive work well now? Are there any pitfalls to avoid? Should I consider breaking up my collection into two libraries: one for audiobooks and the other for music?

  • HT4914 I purchased iMatch because my old computer was failing and I was afraid of losing my music library. Now I bought a new laptop; what is the best way for me to transfer my library to my new laptop? Will iMatch help me do this?

I purchased iMatch because my old computer was failing and I was afraid of losing my music library. Now I bought a new laptop; what is the best way for me to transfer my library to my new laptop? Will iMatch help me do this?

    Is/was failing or has failed?
If the old computer still runs one of these methods may be best.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
I don't have personal experience with iTunes Match, but in principle you should be able to download all the tracks currently registered to your iTunes Match account. This isn't quite the same as restoring your previous library exactly as it was. There is always the potential for iTunes match to provide the wrong version of a song and could be content such as movies, podcasts, audiobooks etc. that would have been excluded.

  • Video in a music Library - no room?

Multiple libraries on multiple drives are needed! In the preferences we need to be able to put a music library, a movie library, a TV show library, a podcast library, and audiobook library etc. Because with movies taking 500MB - 1GB a 300GB hard drive is not going to be able to handle music, movies, shows, podcasts, audiobooks, etc. Unless we can download and re-download the movies timew and time again while paying once then that would be fine, but I don't think Apple would like that. We need to be ble to place many things on other drives!
Intel Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   multiple firewire drives +1TB

Sigh. That did not work, either. I unchecked "Show List Checkboxes" and closed iTunes. Opened iTunes. Re-checked "Show List Checkboxes" and closed iTunes, opened iTunes...Nope. How does one re-install iTunes? By un-installing and downloading again from the Apple site?
This is why I installed the new version with great trepidation. Almost always something doesn't work. Feh.

  • How can I listen to audiobooks in my library on my iPad with iOS8.0.02?

Sonce installing iOS8.0.02, I have been unable to sync any audiobooks in my library with my iPad. Other than "buying" the books again & downloading them direct to my iPad is there an alternative way of accessing them? ( I know I can do it through "shared" library but that is not a lot of use when I am no where near my own network.)

Well, so will my setup, but as I said, the caller's audio is very low. Is buying an expensive bluetooth setup the only solution?

  • Items in music library do not appear in itunes

After the recent updates, several of my iTunes tracks were missing--actually they had been redistributed to "podcasts" and "audiobooks," and a few of the photos were misplaced. A bit of a mess.
Spotlight help relocate most of the files, and I put most everything back in place, but now several of the files that I have returned to the proper location in the music library are not recognized by itunes.
I can play them from the finder, but not in itunes.
Any thoughts about what the problem might be???--permissions have been repaired and the computer has been rebooted.
    Thanks

I am having the same problem:
    Here is my situation:
I am having a problem with the latest release of Itunes and my Ipod. I am trying to remove Audiobooks and Podcasts. In the Library while in Itunes I can see a "music" folder which shows all my music files; this use to show all files. Now it just shows music files. I deleted all the podcasts out of my podcast playlist and it did not remove them from my Ipod. I can not figure out how to see everything in one library, rather than this separated system we now see.
    Please advise.
    Thanks,
    Carl

  • Why do my audiobooks have music album covers instead of the book covers they should have?

When I play audiobooks, the screen shot used to show the book jacket of the book I was playing. Now I get a music album cover from my music library. How can this be correcting?

Great, but I have lots of playlists, will restoring from backup create those too?

  • Audiobooks from the library

Does anyone know how to make iTunes recognize an audiobook from a CD as an audiobook? When I get an audiobook from the public library, I bring it home and load it onto iTunes. ITunes recognizes it as a music cd and puts it in with the rest of my music. How do I get the CDs to be recognized in the audiobook category?

    Hello there,
    Try this:
Highlight the tracks in iTunes (hold down the control button to highlight multiple tracks at once) and right-click on them and choose Get Info from the menu. From there, head over to the Options tab. Towards the middle of the window should be a drop down menu for Media type. Choose either audiobook or music, depending on which way you want to organize them. Then hit OK to apply the changes.
    See if that helps.

If your hard drive was not backed up then you can download items purchased from the iTunes Store.
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - enabled with iTunes 10.3 and newer; not available in all countries; apps, books (not audiobooks), music, t.v. shows, and movies (some - not all studios have permitted this). Movies currently available in the USA only. Downloading previously purchased movies and TV shows requires iTunes 10.6 or later.  Discontinued items not available. For items not included in the iCloud list, or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid.  Apple notes it is your responsibility to back up your purchases.
Did you subscribe to iTunes Match service?  If you did, your other music would be available too.
Note, this restores the music files themselves, not playlists, playcount, ratings, or other things associated with the actual library file structure.
You really should consider getting a backup drive. Hard drives failures are a certainty and it saves a lot of grief.
