HT1473 iTunes

When setting up a playlist in iTunes, how do you change the order of the songs?

As long as the arrow is showing in the left column (the numbers column) all you need to do is drag the song to the position you want. The arrow can be facing up, or down.
If the arrow is on any other column, you cannot re-order the songs.

  • HT1473 iTunes sometimes seperates songs from the same cd into 2 different albums, from one disc.  how can I correct this?

I've been adding cd's to iTunes on my Mac Book Pro.  Sometimes, it splits songs off of a single cd and treats these songs like a seperate album.  I've changed artist and album artist info, checked the compilation box, and burned the cd's a second (third, etc) time, but can't get the problem corrected.  Anyone else having these problems?  Some of the cd's are from the 80's and 90's, so that may be one reason for the difficulty.  Can't seem to find a correction.  I can create playlist of these cd's, but I'd like to have them as the album in their entirety.  So far, Bongo Fury by Zappa/Beefheart is giving me the most trouble; the first song always remains seperate from the other 8 songs.  The disc is from 1989.  Any ideas, anyone?

Generally all you need to do is fill in an appropriate Album Artist. For more details see my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic One album, too many covers. This one sounds like a job for the trailing X method in Tried that, there are STILL too many covers!

  • HT1473 iTunes message saying the song names for this cd could not be found online when it's iTunes store, What's up with that?

I just purchased The Very Best Of Eagles CD, Popped it into my drive so excited to own the copy but when I tired to copy it to my Library I get this message saying the song names for this cd could not be found online when it's in the iTunes store, What's up with that?    Is there any way to get track information and artwork without Having to manually inter all the info?

iTunes gets track information from Gracenote's database, so iTunes must be able to reach gracenote.com and the CD must have been entered there by some purchaser already (all CD information in Gracenote is provided by we users). If these are common, commercially-distributed CDs, it may be that there is a firewall or privacy filter blocking access to gracenote.com. If these are unusual, independently-released or rare CDs, they just may not be in Gracenote yet. In the case of a custom CD where it's a compilation, Gracenote probably won't be able to identify them (it goes by complete albums, comparing the number and length of the tracks to try and figure out what album it is).
    Hope this helps.

  • HT1473 iTunes library

I want to put my music folder on itunes but i cant because when i click Add File to Library then select my folder nothing happens could someone please help me?

You can restore much of the look & feel of the previous version with these shortcuts:
Ctrl-B to turn on the menu bar.
Ctrl-S to turn on the sidebar.
Ctrl-/ to tunn on the status bar.
Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the previous search behaviour.
You can also open the menu bar temporarily by pressing Alt.
File > Add folder to library will let you add folders. You can still drag & drop folders into iTunes as before.

  • HT1473 Itunes is not seeing my CD drive

Am trying to import a CD of music into Itunes.  The drive is not showing up on Itunes, it is just not seen.  The album of course is not showing either.  If anybody has an idea on what I am missing, please let me know!  thanks

In this case iTunes made empty folder C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\Apple ComputerMobileSyncBackup
Your backups is in C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
Try to replace all folders from Backup to SyncBackup. It must be help, but you should do it every time when you want see your backups in iTunes.
I don't know, where is problem and I haven't any idea from Apple too.

  • ITunes doesn't want to eject a CD...for a while, anyway.

I burn two music CDs each week (church service CD for shut-ins). A few months ago, I noticed that iTunes (currently v10.5.2) would not eject the CD by using the eject icon beside the title in the side-bar. Nor would the eject key on the keyboard. Same with the Finder display. However, if I was able to immdeiately click the eject icon when the new disk appeared in iTunes, it would eject...usually. But if I delayed more than a few seconds it was impossible.
I checked the prefs in iTunes and the only ones that seemed related were "Automatically retrieve CD track names from the Internet" and "Automatically download missing artwork..." Since the track names are generic (Message, opening prayer, hymn #123, etc.) I seriously doubt that there are any available tracks out there. Still, I UNchecked the 'retrieve' track names option. Likewise, I find it even less probable that there would be any 'artwork' available for these custom CD compilations. But I also UNchecked that option, also.
But from the sound of the drive, iTunes is very busy doing something. So I also disabled the "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" option in the Advanced section. I'm not even sure what that 'media' is, if not the music file, anyway. 8-|
The only way around this frustraing delay is to wait it out (at least five minutes) or simply Quit iTunes and then try ejecting the disk. In that last method, I will get a System dialog warning that the disk is "in use" by something, even though iTunes is not running. It then takes three more clicks to finally get the disk ejected and the warnings all removed.
    System info: Lion 10.7.2, iTunes 10.5.2, iMac 3.4GHz Core i7, 8GB DDR3
Just yesterday, I burned a CD on an older Mac mini running Leopard and the disk was ejectable without any apparent 'searching,' 'track name' or 'artwork' downloading, even though the mini is connected to the interwebs! ;-)
What is iTunes trying to do and how can I regain control?!! <rant>

    Hi Caminouflet,
.m4a and .mp3 are two different file formats. If they are actually .m4a files, the .mp3 at the end of the file name may be confusing iTunes as to how they should be played. For more information about file formats in iTunes, you may find the following articles helpful:

    Hi Ava001,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
Have you added the songs to your iTunes library?  If so, you can sync your iTunes library to your iPhone.  Here are a few articles that will explain how to do this:

  • How to put old music on Ipod?

I got a new Ipod the other day. I haven't had one in almost four years and after downloading Itunes, I realized I still had an Itunes account. All of the music I downloaded years ago was back, but I can't figure out how to put it on my new Ipod. Halp. I've tried every way I can think of. The songs don't show up as options when I choose to manually manage the files.

    Hi Cjohnson8413,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
If I understand correctly, you have downloaded and installed iTunes on your PC.  Have you added the music that is on your PC to your iTunes library?  You can also download all of your previous purchases to your iTunes library.   Then you should be able to sync what you want to your iPod nano.  Here are a few articles that may help:

  • HT1473 my computer crashed and i have a new computer with new itunes, i am trying to get my music from my old iphone 4 into the library but as soon as i unplug the phone it no longer appears in the library

my computer crashed so i have a new itunes and i am trying to put my music from my old phone into itunes, it doesnt transfer only shows up when my phone is plugged in?

The iphone is not a backup/storage device.  The sync is one way - computer to iphone.  The exception is itunes purchases:  File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
You shouldcopy everything from your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.  This one of the main reasons it has laways been very basic to always maintain a abckup copy of your computer.

  • HT1473 How come the rest of my songs don't show up in itunes on my new macbook air

    Hi Liz,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  This article has steps to try if your Mac isn't recognizing your iPhone 5s:

  • HT1473 Had to "repair" Itunes today after error messages would not let me open. I can no longer sync my phone to computer without deleting all of the contect on my phone. I don't want to do that! I am trying to get the music from my Iphone to my Itunes li

    Little background:
Went to open Itunes, error message told me I was missing files and I was unable to open. I deleted Itunes and re-downloaded and received same message. I then "repaired" Itunes from my "unistall/change" program menu. The error message then changed to being "unable to read my library of music." So I fixed that by following some other forum directions (Went to My Computer/Music/Itunes then dragged the most recent Itunes Library selection to my desktop, then opened the folder under music titled "Previous Itunes library" and moved that file into that folder. Thankfully that worked... sort of... I have some music in my library. None of the music from my super old Limewire library, or any recent music from my phone. All of which was in my library last night. Not to mention the HOURS of cd's I burned to Itunes over the entire weekend. Hundreds (at least) of songs are missing.
So I attempted to sync my phone and was told it would delete all of the files in my phone to replace with files from my computer. Which is NOT what I want to happen. Trying to get music FROM my phone to my computer.
Can someone please help me simply sync my phone to my computer? And then somehow get the music from my Limewire library to my Itunes library? I know I may not get the burned music back... But that sure would be amazing.
I am at a loss. Apple won't help unless I pay them... So hopefully this looks familiar to someone!
    Thanks,
    Katie

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

  • HT1473 I got my MAC PRO installed with iOS lion and since then i'm unable to add music on my iTunes and i tried adding to library option but still it copies and at the end it stays empty, doesn't even open new songs on it. any suggestions ?

    hey,
I've rebooted my mac before installing new ios lion, so after everything was done i copied my data back to my mac book pro, then simple clicked on adding to library option in itune and it only synced half of the track and rest simply didnt copy, i thought maybe some error occured and i tryed the same procedure again but its not adding more tracks in it. and i just notice when ever i try play a new song through my data it does not open in itune these are the same tracks and songs i been listening to since ages on different note books and pods..
Help me i've tryed everything but nathing seems to be working. and my itune is uptodated =S

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • HT1473 can i use more than one ipod on my itunes account?  How do I get the music from one itune account into another on one computer?

My husband and I would like to combine our itunes libraries into one for each of our ipods.  Can this be done?

You can just copy all of your music to an external sourcce ( cd/dvd/flash drive/hard drive) then copy onto the other computer.
You can type "merge itunes library" into the google search bar.

  • HT1473 How do I get iTunes to download an entire album in one file versus splitting it into multiple files with the same Album Title?

I have added several CDs to my iTunes files, several Albums were added in the form of multiple files of the same Album title with random songs listed, but not the entire album in one file.
I have tried to reassemble the Album into one file, but could not find a way to do so.

Generally setting a common Album title and Album Artist will fix things.
