If you purchased the songs in the iTunes Store, plug the iPad, open iTunes and hold the Alt key to show the menu bar. Go to File menu (on the menu bar) > Devices > Transfer purchases

If you already have syncing setup then you just connect your iPad to the computer and it'll create a backup as well as transfer any new songs etc on your device.

  • Transfering songs from iPhone to computer

I have never done this before
    But I can't find a answer
On my laptop on iTunes I have 1,200+ songs
That I had on my phone
But a while ago I deleted them off my phone
I want to hook my phone back up to my laptop
But I am worried about getting all the songs again
And losing the few songs I brought on my phone
Is there a way I can sync my phones music to iTunes and delete iTunes songs?

    Hi cdthoas,
Music purchased on your iPhone can be brought into your computer simply by downloading it again from the iTunes store. See this article -
    Download past purchases
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
If you prefer to transfer it directly from the iPhone to the computer, use the method described in this article -

  • Transferring songs from iPod to computer (new hard drive)

My hard drive crashed and won't be able to backup all my music/songs that are not purchased from iTunes. How would I transfer all the songs from my iPod to my new hard drive (PC)? Is there any possibility?

Be very careful when connecting an iPod full of music to an empty iTunes library. There is very real risk of permanently losing all the music.
To prevent auto sync, before you connect the iPod go to the iTunes preferences and select "devices", then select "disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods".
An alternative method is to connect the iPod whilst holding down the 'control+shift' keys and do not let them go until your iPod appears in iTunes.
If you see a message that your iPod is associated with a different library and asks if you want to link to a new one, make sure you press "Cancel".
If you should click on "Erase and Sync" will erase all the content currently on your iPod and it will be replaced with the content of the iTunes library you just connected to.
When you've pressed cancel your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list under "devices" and allow you to change the update setting to manage the iPod content manually, and that will let you use your iPod for the time being without the risk of accidentally erasing the contents.
Then do any of the following to transfer your music from iPod back to the computer/iTunes.
For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.

For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola and iDump and iPodRobot.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • HT1473 Transfering Quicktimes from iPad to Macbook

Hi, my iPad drops thumbs from Quicktimes.  I've read a tip to create a new video playlist in iTunes library on Macbook then transfer the new library back to iPad. I can't reload the files to iTunes library from my Macbook because they're not on it.  So I want to move the Quicktimes from iPad to Macbook and create the new playlist, but I can't move video files from iPad to Macbook?  Any tips?  No videos are purchased or pirated.  It's all self generated video content.

You can only import photos in the camera roll, not synced photos. So I assume that you want to transfer the photos that you shot with the iPad camera. You can use iPhoto or Image Capture on the MBA.
Just connect the iPad to the Mac with the cable and launch either of those two apps. Your iPad should appear under the devices heading in the left sidebar of the app. Click on the iPad name just like you do when you sync with iTunes and the camera roll photos should appear in the window on the right.

  • Transferring music from ipad to computer to put on a cd

I bought music from itunes on my ipad, I want to transfer it to my computer so I can put it on a cd to play in my truck. I tried to select and drag over and copy and past it wont allow me. Please tell me that I can do this, Ive purchased alot of music on my ipad and sure would hope I would be able to transfer to my pc. Thanks for any help

I had the same trouble getting music from iPhone 4 to the computer. However, there is a method in doing this that involves authorizing the computer. Go to the "Store" tab in iTunes and look for "Authorize Computer". After you do authorize it, got ot the "File" tab and click on "Transfer Purchases". Although I've only done this once, this method should work.

  • Transfering songs from iPod onto computer.

    Hi all,
I had a problem with Windows and lost all my music files. However, I did have my iPod up to date with all my songs. Does anyone knw how I can transfer them over?
    Thanks for looking!

I'm not sure what you mean about the second method.

I have never had to do this myself; I've just read about it in these forums. If I don't end up giving you the answer, there are several knowledgeable people who are in and out of this forum, and hopefully they can offer more.

  • How can I transfer my photos and songs from my old computer to my ipad? (Old computer running on 10.4 and not compatible with the last itunes needed by ipad)

    Hi guys,
I got an ipad 2 running on iOS6 and I'ld like to put my photos and songs from my old computer (mac Osx 10.4.11) to my ipad. The trouble is that Ipad needs itunes 10.6.3 at least and that my computer can't receive this version as it is running on 10.4.11.
Would anyone have a solution to that problem?

For photos: You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

If you right mouse and select Get info it will show you the Apple ID used to purchase these songs.
Usually the name of an apple id is based on the email. So knowing that you may have forgotten the Apple ID password.
You can request a new password here http://www.apple.com/support/appleid/

    Yes by:
Using iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers
However, you can make this computer the syncing computer by:
    - Transering iTunes purchases to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
    Copy music
    - For synced photos you need a program like TouchCopy or PhoneView. The do music too.
    - After everything is on the computer connect the iPod to the computer and make a backupo by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup
Note that the backup that iTunes makes does not include synced media like apps, music, synced photos.

  • Downloading songs from a different computer with out reformatting my i pod

Hey there, it's probably a common question. Is there any way to download songs from a different computer with out having to reformat the ipod and lose all my songs i have on there. I've tried it once and it wiped my ipod clean of all my songs. Very annoying. cheers

    Hello noboo79,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
On the computer you have initially the set the iPod up on and for, you can enable the "manually manage music and videos" option from under the iPod's Summary tab in iTunes. This will allow you to sync contect to the iPod from multiple computers. Otherwise, there is no other way.
Here is more on using your iPod with multiple computers as well as manually managing your iPod's contents.
