HT1476 My iPhone is dead and won't recharge. The outlet works.

Hi. Yesterday my iphone went dead. I tried to recharge it with the car charger. No dice. Then at home. No dice. I tried putting the plug in diffferent ways. Nothing. The outlet works. What's wrong with this thing?

Hey Artichoke25!
I have an article for you here that can help you troubleshoot this issue with your iPhone:
iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting

Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
Take care, and thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities.

  • Battery is dead and won't recharge--the phone is 14 days old

My I-phone 5 is not recharging. It was 3/4 full of battery life last night, I turned all the applications I had used (only 3). The second day  I had the phone, I thought it felt hot and did call Apple and got a case number. It is now 14 days old. I gave up my house phone but this is making wonder if that was wise as now I have no phone to use...any ideas?

Bring your phone into Apple for evaluation.

  • IPhone went dead and won't turn back on

My iPhone 5 was a refurbished phone that I received under warranty in November. However, it worked fine until last week when it started turning off at 50% and below (which is the same reason why I had to get this refurbished phone in the first place). But because it immediately turned back on, I thought nothing of it and ignored it. However, my phone went dead two days ago and won't turn back on. I've used two chargers that worked the day of, but it wouldn't charge with either of those and those wouldn't even connect my phone to my laptop. So, thinking and hoping it was both of the cords malfunctioning, I went out and bought another cord. My phone still won't turn on, Apple Support refuses to help in any way because my warranty out, and I'm lost.

Plug it in to a wall outlet so it has power, then do a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, ignore the red slider if that appears.

  • My iPhone is dead, and won't charge or turn on!

So my iPhone has been on low battery for a day or so now, but i havent charged it. So it was still on and charging, so i left it over night to charge when i woke up, it said it was fully charged, but when i unplugged it, it instantly went to 10% battery and said it needed to be charged. Then it just wouldnt charge anymore and died. Now it gives me the black screen with the battery to plug in. When i plug it in, it shows it charging but it doesn't actually charge. it has been charging for a least an hour with no status change. I can't contact apple without my serial number which i can only access with the phone on. I tried resetting it, as apple told me could help, but even then it wouldnt even bring me to the option to reset it. Still just sitting at the battery screen. Anyone know how to fix this? I really would appreciate any help! Thanks!

    I am using iOS 6.0.1
Because my phone is dead, i can't update it. iTunes doesn't even pick up my iPhone's presence either when plugged into the computer. I have also used seeveral other chargers, so it is specifically pertaining to my phone.

You sound like you have tried everything possible ,the only thing left is to go to a apple store

  • My iphone is dead and won't charge at all

I have had my iphone pluged into the wall and my computer for over 16hours and I still don't have any power to my phone.

Aside from taking it in to a certified Apple Repair shop, this may be a sign that it is dead.  Or there could some kind of damage to the connectors on the charge port.  I am guessing on that part because I am assuming that the other chargers you have used work for other devices.  It may be time to look into buying a new one if it is dead.

  • HT4528 iPhone 4S battery at 30% when recharge started last night - this morning battery is dead, and won't recharge from any USB or A/C Wall adapters

Are there local alternatives to mailing in iPhone 4S for battery replacement?  It's aggravating that this problem developed without warning, just outside the warranty window (I should expect that problems will occur immediately after my one-year warranty expires.  I'm wondering about third-party support and battery replacement...)

Connect the PlayBook to the charger that came with the unit. Since the batteries are totally dead, they will come back to life. Connect them and leave them for a few days. Afterwards hold down the power button only until the red light flashes and allow it to reboot. Try not to let the battery go below 10% in the future.

  • Z22 went dead and won't recharge

It's less than a month old...
It just stopped even thought the battery showed a full charge when I checked it before leaving for work and during the day had it on collectively for less than 5 minutes.
Any suggestion as to what I should do?

The good thing is you should be able to return it to your place of purchase if it is less than 30 days old. but what you can try is plug it in and let it charge for about 15 minutes, Then try a soft reset if it still wont come up. Press the reset button about 2o times rapidly and see if it comes on.

  • My phone is dead and won't recharge.  I've tried plugging it into other outlets...not any better.

Any suggestions besides buying a new phone?

You mentioned trying other outlets but not if you tried other chargers. If the phone is still not charging, I'm afraid that another phone would you be your only other avenue....unless you want to try a DIY and replace the battery which may cost less and void your warranty. There's also the risk that you'll brick your phone. Youtube has multiple videos that show you how to replace it though.
    Good luck!

  • IPhone 4 is dead and won't turn on

Can anyone help?  iPhone 4 is dead and won't turn on.  It was fully charged when it died.

    Hi
I have pretty much the same problem. iphone 4, just over a year old ( so no longer under my service providers guarantee apparently !) Was using facebook with full battery and it just went black. I've tried hard-reseting holding the buttons for a full two minutes: nothing. Tried to connect to itunes: not recognised. It has crashed several times recently using facebook but always gone to homepages.
Can anyone out there help us ?

  • My iPhone 4 is completely dead and won't charge, turn on, no signs of life!

My iPhone 4 is completely dead and won't charge, turn on, no signs of life! What to do???

Was late to work because my alarm didn't go off on my iPhone this morning! (4 w/ IOS 5)  When I woke up, I went to check my phone and it wouldn't turn on; so I plugged it in to the charger and no response.  I left it plugged in while I was getting ready...came back a shortwhile later...still no signs of life.  At that point, I held both buttons for several seconds and the apple logo appeared and the lock screen displayed shortly thereafter.  And what's odd, is that it showed that I had about 80% of battery life left.  So it seems like something else caused it to shutdown completely.  One note though...I updated to IOS 5 on Sunday...and I've used my phone ever since with no problems.  So this is the first time this has happened since the update.
In looking at a thread on another site, I found this excerpt from an alleged beta tester back in June...and it was in reference to the iPad 2 with IOS 5, but seemed plausible enough to share here:
Issue:  "Hey guys, whenever my iPad 2 is locked for a while, it wont wake from sleep.  I have to give it a hard reset.  Is anyone else having this issue?"
Response:  "I think I isolated the issue....make sure banner notifications are turned off for mail app. If the screen is locked and you get a mail it freezes up causing you to reboot. hope it gets fixed in the next beta!"
Follow-up:  "Did it help you at all? I tried recreating every way I could think of with mail and never could. I'll turn of mail notifications for the rest of the night and see what happens."
"Hey Rick, yes it helped, my iPad no longer shuts off.  I turned off mail banner notifications like Defender2010 said, and at least for now, it doesn't turn off anymore."

  • My iPod is dead and won't charge or connect to the computer. How can I fix this?

My iPod is dead and won't charge or connect to the computer. How can I fix this? Before it died, it said I had a full battery whenever I charged it, but as soon as it came off of the charger, the battery level was always under ten per cent.

Sounds like the battery needs to be replaced.

  • My iPhone is dead and when I try to find it with Find My iPhone, it says it is offline. How can I track and find my lost phone?

I lost my iPhone and cannot find a way to track it. My phone is dead and I used Find My iPhone later than 24 hours after I lost it so it will not tell me if it is located in my house or not. Is there any way to track my iPhone or make it okay a noise if it is dead and offline?

If the iPhone doesn't appear in Find My iPhone, then unless your carrier has their own tracking service there is no way to locate it. And if it's turned off, there's no way to cause it to make any sort of noise.
    Regards.

my iphone went dead and wont charge. I tried plugging it on the wall and via the usb to my laptop but still no luck. any suggestions on how to make it work?

Try using a differnt USB cord.   Or hold down the power/home button together for 10 to 15 sec or until you see the apple logo and then release, wait for your phone to boot back up.
