HT1476 My iPod touch won't charge with the USB cable.

For some reason my iPod touch (4th gen) will not charge when I plug it in with my USB cable in my pc. No symbol on the front, nothing. Any ideas?
Thanks or any help. Oh yeah, the pc CAN sense the device, it shows up on iTunes.

I just read in fine print in an obscure part of support site that only the ipod mini can be charged with the "supplied" cable? Is this true? No, come on really? But, I...I,I,I just paid 500 clams for the top of the line shiznit and it doesn't come with any kind of charger? Is apple gonna send me back to the store? your ipod doesnt need a power ac cable. Every time you connect ur ipod to your pc, it should start charging the batterie auto matically. Just leave your pc on all night long with the ipod connected, and in the morning your good to go!

Have 2 Ipod touches (same model), one will no longer charge with a car charger, charges fine with wall charger and computer, I know it's not the charger as it charges the other ipod touch with no problem, have tired restore, etc and still nothing helps.

Agreed about trying a different USB port. But, if your iTunes is recognizing your iPod from a given USB port, I would expect it would also charge from the port.

Where is the phone number on the iPod?
If you have an iPhone with iOS and use the same ID for Messages and FaceTime as on the iPod the iPhone's phone number will be listed for Messages and FaceTime on the iPod.
If you changed phone numbers on the iPhone, sign out of Messages and FaceTime and then sing back in. Then do the same a little while later on the iPod.

Can no longer charge Nano with the USB cable

My iPod Nano (1st gen) won't charge via the USB cable any more. It will sync if there is enough battery life when I hook it up to the USB cable. However, if I leave it hooked up, it gets drained of all it's battery life. Fortunately I have a wall charger and a car charger and both of them will charge the Nano. It's a lot more convenient for me to charge it via my computer, but that's not possible any more. Is my Nano dying or is it possible the USB cable is damaged? If it's damaged, how can it sync but not charge? Why can I charge with other power sources but not the cable? Unfortunately, I don't have another iPod cable to test if the cable is damaged. If my Nano is dying, can you give me a rough estimate as to how long it will be before it stops charging all together. (I need to prepare my spouse for the upcoming iPod Touch purchase that will appear on credit card.)

Here's my own trial and error analysis of my problem. I hooked my iPod up to my old G4 PowerBook and tried to charge it from there. It didn't charge but it also didn't lose any more power that I could tell. I then hooked it up to my MacBook's first USB slot. I heard that the first slot has more power than the 2nd slot due to the way the 2 USB ports are configured. Unfortunately, the iPod appeared to have lost some power, i.e. the USB port drained some of the power from the iPod.
I'm guessing I need to take it in to have my USB ports checked out. I prefer to take it to an Apple store with a Genius bar that is 3 hours away instead of to our "local" Apple repair shop that is an hour away. I have Apple Care and I believe my local shop will still charge me for time.
Thanks for the suggestions. Until I find a day when I can take the long drive, I'll just charge my iPod from with a wall charger. I'm grateful the iPod syncs and I have an alternate way to charge.

My 4th gen iPod Touch won't charge

Hi, folks:
Suddenly, my 4th generation iPod Touch won't charge. I don't mean it won't hold a charge; I mean it WON'T charge. There's no (peep!) when I attach it to a Mac, a Windows box, or to the wall. I've tried not only at my place but at my doctor's office, too, on his computer. Rats.
It fell three feet onto a concrete floor a week before this happened, so I'm unsure of cause/effect there. However, chances are most excellent that I touched it while filled with static electicity (my bed is exceedingly staticky). Maybe I touched the charging port? I have no idea, but I kinda sorta have a memory of having gotten a shock while touching my pod and wondering whether that was bad.
It'll be a couple more days before I can get to a Genius Bar (but thank cow I'm in New York City and have my pick of them!). In the meantime, can anyone calm me down about my situation? Do you imagine it's doomed (it IS still operable provided I keep it plugged in, though iTunes can't see it since it won't mount), or do you spose the installation of a new battery might bring my precious baby back to me? It IS freshly backed up (again, thank cow!), but I'm not in a position to buy a new one right now, and unfortunately, I don't know what to do with my eyeballs without a Touch in front of them.
Oh, how I hope someone can tell me that this has happened to him, and an Apple Genius merely did something magical and handed it back intact and amazing again so Ican cry happy tears. It's been four days and I'm just sick without it (and having to look at this gigantic Mac, with its large and beautiful text in many windows, means I can't RECLINE! WAAAAH!).

Wow, Kevin; that's a tantalizing theory! I don't like it (I *never* like to think about logic board damage for any piece of hardware), but it's tantalizing, as it would explain my pod seemingly charging out of thin air, and it'd also explain why my pod doesn't just DIE altogether from a dead battery.
I feel like an idiot: I have iTunes set to never sync automatically with my pod, so it never automatically recognizes the pod. I'll bet I could sync it if I clicked to "apply," as I've been downloading new apps since 2/21 (the last time I backed the pod up, mere minutes before it failed), but I don't want to risk not having a connection that's 100% and bollixing up what's on the pod now. (I'll be in the hospital for a day and will need something to read the whole time; I'll need an intact pod!)
Thanks for sticking with me, Kevin; I always like figgering things out, and your theory's interesting. I'll mention it to the Genius. It doesn't give me any hope, but not having any hope, I can always be pleasantly surprised, whereas if I go in all hopeful, someone can dash my dreams. No. If your MacBook has an Intel processor you can update to OSX 10.6.8 and then install the latest iTunes.
A 5G iPod with iOS 7 requires that if you have a Mac you have OSX 10.6.8 or later.

Sounds like you may have a bad battery. Did you try a hard reset?
