  • Trying to connect my wired PC to the wireless airport express via the wireless router.

Trying to connect my wired PC to the wireless airport express via the wireless router.  TP-link wired/wireless router.  Ultimate goal is to send music from iTunes on PC to wireless router, then to airport, then to reciever.  The amber light is blinking.  Thanks in advance for the help!

If I'm understanding right your need and your computer has wired access to your network/router, all you have to do is give your AX wireless or wired access to your network too.
Wired should be easier.  Just use a network cable to connect to the router.  Power up the AX and look for it on AirPort Utility, do so without changing any of your computer settings.  If it's visible, then on iTunes your AX should be visible on the AirPlay icon at the bottom-right corner.
If you want to connect your AX to your router wirelessly I would suggest to reset your AX settings by pressing and holding for a few secs the reset button next to all the ports.  Once it is reset, using your computer try to look for the wireless network it'll be creating, it should be something like Apple Network 4341eb.  Join that network and, using the AirPort Utility, configure your AX as a network client.  Go to Wireless > Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network.
Select your router wireless network from the drop-down menu, select the appropriate security and type in your password.  Click update.
It'll restart and automatically join your network.  Have your computer join back your router network and, again, in iTunes bottom right you should be able to see the AX speakers.
Let me know if this worked.

  • Does airport extreme replace my current router?

Does airport extreme replace my current router?

Your choice.. in some cases you will bridge the AE and use it as wireless AP and switch.
In other cases you will bridge your existing router and use the AE in router mode.
We cannot easily answer without specifics..
What broadband modem / router do you have? Make and model?
What are you hoping to achieve with the AE?

  • Is Airport express same as wireless router?

Is Airport express same as wireless router?

yes it could act as a wireless router.
According to Apple, the Express can act as a basestation (router) for up to 10 clients.

  • HT1515 Does airport express have auto on/off schedule feature? Or any other ways to turn it on/off automatically.

Does airport express have auto on/off schedule feature? Or any other ways to turn it on/off automatically.

The Timed Access feature of the AirPort Express will allow you set the specific times that each wireless device will be allowed to connect to the wireless network each day.
However, this feature cannot be used to "turn on", or "turn off" the AirPort Express device.

  • Airport Express & D-LINK wireless router--can I extend?

I have Rogers cable internet modem in my office. My D-LINK wireless router is attached to the modem. I was informed by the salesperson at Apple that I can extend the range of my wireless network even though I have a D-LINK router in the office and Airport Express in the living room.
Can't find any info on the boards. D-LINK can't help, and neither can Apple.
I figured out how to get the Airport Express to play iTunes, but I cannot get it to connect to the internet (talk to my D-LINK), thus not allowing me to extend the range.
Does anyone know how to configure this set up so that I can extend the range of my wireless network?
Buying another Airport Express or an Apple Base Station is the easy option--just seeing if there's a work around so I don't have to drop another $200 CAD.
    Cheers.

    Hi Joe,
You got the short answer from
    b Henry B,
which will save you lots of aggravation.
But if you're as curious, as I was, here's some more info I came across. I thought naively that a simple wireless 'repeater' would be straightforward and would work across different vendors of wireless basestations.
Maybe it would? But the Airport Express implements something called a
    b Wireless Distribution System
    b (WDS),
which sounds to me more complicated than just a simple wireless repeater. Maybe it has something to do with also honouring the encryption in the wireless signal to be repeated, err extended? Apparently WDS implementations are not standardized and currently
    b rarely
work across different brands of wireless basestations.
Although apparently several folks have been successful extending the range of
    b linksys
brand wireless basestations using an Airport Express,
    b IF
they first update (swap out?) the linksys firmware with another (open source) version. Whew!
Anyhooow, for your situation, a brute-force option might be to replace the Ethernet cord between the Rogers cable modem and the D-LINK with a longer cable, so you can move the D-LINK closer to Living Room. (Or possibly get a longer CATV cable and move both the cable modem and D-LINK). You could even try increasing the range of the PowerBook with one of those Quickertek antennas.
But I expect it would be
    b cheaper and easier,
if it came to that, to just replace the D-LINK with a 2nd Airport Express, which would then inter-work with the Airport Express in the Living room, using
    b WDS.
    best of luck,

  • Ipad connects with Airport Express, but not wireless router

I have a airport express that exends my network and is connected by an ethernet cable to the wireless router.  they are on opposite sides of the house from each other.  every other device i own has full bars wifi anywhere in the house.  but the ipad only seems to find the signal from the AE.
If i go in the bedroom with the wireless router, the signal drops to 1 bar.  if i unplug the AE along with all the other electronics for the TV/Receiver at night, the ipad loses the signal and cannot get a signal from the router, standing right next to it.  i have tried reset, hard reset, renew lease forgetting network, and all fails.  any ideas?
I have a Verizon Ultraline series 3 model A90-9100EM15-10 and the firmware is up to date.

You likely have your reason for extending your network in this manner, but it seems that the AE is not really extending your router's network, but creating its own separate network that then extends your internet connection. This can be confusing to devices if you are expecting that they will switch between the two of them automatically.
The iPad can only support one connect at a time. It sounds like you want it to be able to jump from the AE connection to a router connection on a whim when signal strength drops. I am not sure that the iPad's radio is that sophisticated. At best when the iPad looses a signal it could ask if you want to join any other network that it detects, especially if it has connected to that network in the past.
AFA the router, some routers don't like iOS devices and just won't connect. When you go to Settings/Wi-Fi does the iPad see the router's network? If the iPad sees the router network, try configuring a connection by hand.
Tap Other... and write the name of the router's network. Tap Security and select the type of security the router's network employs. Return to the previous pane and enter the password. Tap Join. If you can make the conection the iPad should remember this network in the future. Turn on Ask to Join Networks and hopefully when the iPad looses the AE signal in the future it will then ask you if you want to join the router's network.

  • Can TC directly replace my wireless router?

I have just purchaes a 2nd hand TC gen 1 500gb it come as unit only no instructions etc....
does it directly replace my wireless router (plug and play)? if so i do in need to reinstall my aol broadband?
do i connect it to my wireless router?
    any help appreciated

Yes. It replaces all routers. In fact if you use the Time Capsule you can disconnect any other routers you have. You would connect it directly to the Ethernet port on your cable/DSL modem.

  • Can't See Airport Express on my Wireless N/work

I have a D-Link DSL G604t router, and have spent hours trying to get it to "see" AE - no joy. I have added the MAC Address to the enabled access list but still nothing - everytime I scan for it, it cannot be found. My Compaq l/top connects no problem to the network, and I cannot find any answers in the manual. Only trying to send itunes to my hifi - don't need to share connections or printers.

    Hi:
I had a similar problem with a DLink DI-624 wireless router and AirPort Express afew months ago. Here is what you can do.
As an intermediate step, which is undocumented but I found necessary, connect your Airport Express to the wireless router via an Ethernet cable. After the wired connection, your router will definitely see AirPort Express. Then you can go through the normal network registration process. Once this is complete, you can then power off Airport Express and disconnect it from the router and then place it where you originally intended. Once the solid green light comes on (30-60 seconds), you should be able to access AirPort Express the way it was intended, in a wireless manner.
Again, this worked for me after hours of unsuccessful struggling with the installation process as described in the Apple documentation. I hope this helps.

  • What does airport express do?

What's the difference between airport express and a wireless router?

The AirPort Express is a wireless router with some extra unique abilities. It can also be used as a wireless or wired network extender and it can be used in 'Client Mode' to allow devices that don't have wireless capability to join a wireless network. It can be used as a wireless print server allowing a printer that has no networking ability to be accessible to computers on a wireless or wired network. It also supports AirPlay so that you can hook it up to an amplifier, A/V receiver or powered speakers so you can stream music from iTunes or iOS devices.

My internet 3rd party access point in in the basement and the speakers I want to stream music to wirelessly are upstairs. Does Airport Express need to be connected to my 3rd party router via ethernet cable or will it stream music wirelessly?

    Wirelessly
Just select the option to make your AirPort Express join an existing network in the setup process

  • Does airport express stream directly to wireless speakers or does it need to be connected through an audio cable to an amplifier before the speakers

Does airport express stream directly to wireless speakers or does it need to be connected through an audio cable to an amplifier before the speakers?

I got an additional question bout this topic:
is it possible to use both at the same time? in my case cable-connected speakers in the living-room and an Airplay-speaker in the bathroom and/or kitchen?
so I select the Airport Express as Airplay-Output on my iPad and from there it's shared via cable AND wireless? this would solve the problem of being able to only select ONE Airplay-Output on my iPad at the same time...

  • Airport Express Networking with Existing Router + ONT

I have a TELDAT Wifi router connected to an ONT, both provided by my ISP. The TELDAT router does not perform very well, I have many issues with airplay, itunes home sharing and even with my apple TV. I read many forums and came to the preliminary conclusion that the problem may be the TELDAT router.I was looking to replace the provided router with another one, however It seems that this router use VLAN tags to connect to the ONT via its WAN port so apparently not all routers support this.
I have checked a lot of reviews and forums and it seems that Airport Express was the right choice in order to make all Apple services to work seamlessly. I then purchased an airport express; however I'm not really sure what is the most recomendable network configuration in order for the Airport Express to switch all data between my connected devices and only use WAN port for accesing the internet. It need to be taken into account that the TELDAT router cannot be replaced by Airport Express due to the VLAN tagging thing.
    My current configuration:
Currently I have all my iDevices (ipad, iphone, apple TV, Mac Mini and Philips Airplay Speakers) and one DLINK camera connected via WIFI to the TELDAT router. The TELDAT router provides 4 ethernet ports, so I have my Samsung Smart TV connected to ethernet port 1 and another DLINK camera connected to ethernet port 2.
    What i want:
First I would turn TELDAT Wifi off, so only the Airport Express will provide wireless connectivity. In addition I'd like all my iDevices connections/services between them to be handled by the Airport Express, so the TELDAT router does not have any influence in the apple services perfromance. On the other hand I need two ethernet LAN ports and the airport express only have one, so, I'll connect my Samsung TV to this port and dlink camera will now be connected via Wifi to the Airport Express.
I read that for he configuration I want I will need to configure the Airport Express in "bridge mode"; however my main worry is that in this mode, all communications between my iDevices will go to the TELDAT router and then back to the Airport Express, affecting this way the performance and leaving in the same place as before.
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Probably, unless the Netgear has been set up in some non-standard way.
But, every manufacturer seems to do something a bit different with their wireless, so a device from one manufacturer will not always be compatible with a device from another manufacturer when you try to connect using wireless.
It should work. But, should work is not the same as saying it will work. It might be a good idea to understand the store's return policy just in case things don't work out as well as expected.

  • Airport express with old Netgear router together?

I just bought an Airport express because my older Netgear router may be causing issues with streaming movies on my Apple TV.  (For some reason the movies cut off).  Would it be better to throw out the old router and start anew with the Airport Express or use them both in conjunction?

If there is actually something amiss with your current Netgear router, then replacing it with the AirPort Express or any other wireless router would be in order. Otherwise, you would have to decide what you actual networking requirements are that you believe the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) would fulfill that the Netgear is not doing for you.
The Apple TV, especially the latest version, can work completely without the AirPort Express, and actually duplicates its AirPort Speaker feature.

  • Connect Airport Express to Buffalo AC1750 Router

I replaced an older airport extreme with a buffalo AC1750.  I never gave any thought to all of the existing functionality I was about to goof up.  I have an older printer upstairs connected to my network via USB to an airport express and another stereo also connected via a second airport express.  the expresses are both 1st gen.
No clue if this is important but I have a mac mini hooked up that has all of my itunes that I screen share with to connect over the network.  My main computer is a macbook pro.
    1. can I connect the airport EXPRESS to my buffalo router?  if so, how?
    2. I still have my older extreme.  if the expresses can't be hooked up, can this be used somehow?
    3.  If none of the above, how to do non apple people get wireless access points around the house to connect to iTunes and printers?
Please be gentle.. i'm not a networking scientist.

    1. can I connect the airport EXPRESS to my buffalo router?  if so, how?
You were probably extending the wireless network previously.. but the apple routers cannot extend wireless to another non-apple router. You can join a wireless router. You will need to open the airport utility and change the setup from extend to join and this is very tricky on v6 utility. You really need a computer running v5 so join wireless which is still a hidden option can at least be found.
So do you have v5 airport utility available?
If not you can reset the express and do it again with v6 utility but you must select the correct options.
I did a post with the method here.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5719954?tstart=0
    2. I still have my older extreme.  if the expresses can't be hooked up, can this be used somehow?
This might be a better idea anyway.. although it does add complexity.. The problem being that airplay protocol can simply fail to work .. not all routers support apple type systems.
Reset the extreme to factory and start over. You want it running in bridge mode.. that is router bridge btw.
Plug into the buffalo by ethernet to WAN port of the AE. You will need to create a wireless network and the Express can still extend that network as before. You can still run into issues.
Why did you buy the buffalo?? If you wanted better and faster wireless you can swap the network around.. leave the AE as the main router with the express.. exactly as they are now.. and simply use the buffalo as Wireless Access Point.
Check if it has WAP mode.. if not I can explain how to do it manually with wan bypass.
    3.  If none of the above, how to do non apple people get wireless access points around the house to connect to iTunes and printers?
Non apple people don't use iTunes.. and generally they use wires.. you know.. permanent hassle free connections.
