Download and install this free utillity > Download Trash It! for Mac - Force-empty your trash can. MacUpdate.com
That should prevent the 8003 error and empty the Trash.

  • I cant empty my trash !!!

    hey guys
actully i cant empty my trash since yesterday i dont know what to do !!!
i know there is a script that i could delet files directly from terminal with this script :
    cd ~/.Trash
    sudo rm -rf
but i cant memorize this script and always put this script in terminal to delet my files
i wanna know is there anyway to delet my files diresctly from trash ?
    thanx

You can try this. Open up the Applications/AppleScript/Script Editor.app and open a new file and copy & paste this: do shell script "srm -mrf ~/.Trash/*" Then in top menu above this paste, hit compile, then record, then stop, then run. Obviously let them all do their action before the next "hit." Then menu bar, file, save as, Application to Desktop. Then you just click it to empty via unix command. Then check the way you have been to see if all is gone.
Excuse my over kill on "then". Bad.

why cant i empty my trash it says i don't have permission to access some of these items

Right click on the hard drive icon and select Get Info. (If there is no right click on your mouse, click once then type command + i - two keys together).
This is the bottom part of the pane that comes up:
    1. Click on the padlock and authenticate with your password.
    2. Look at your name and make sure it says "Read & Write. If it does not, change it by clicking on whatever is there.
    3. Click on the gear, and select "apply to enclosed items".
This will take some time. When it is done close this pane.

    Hello, not too helpful, but...

  • HT1526 trash from my  segate external hard disk. But i am unable to empty my trash box ,getting an error(Error code -36)how to trash?

I had moved some folder to trash from my  segate external hard disk. But i am unable to empty my trash box ,getting an error:The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “” can’t be read or written. (Error code -36): pls advise, how to trash

Hi, what format is the external drive?
Well, in pure Apple File System talk... -36
    ioErr
    I/O error (bummers)
Not very helpful, but generally means a Drive quit being Readable or Writable since starting the operation...
    http://fuzzy.wordpress.com/2006/12/10/ioerror-36/
    The other -36 is a Windows/SMB issue.

  • Cant empty trash unexpected error -8003

If this is any different to people who have had this error from deleting Time Machine backup - this was from deleting the files in pubsub's feeds folder:
After finding that pubsubagent had filled a folder with 5 million files - ! - I sent them to the trash. Now the trash refuses to empty.
    - regular or forced (option key) Empty trash counts the 3.3 million files, doesn't delete any of them, and finally says:
The operation can't be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8003).
I tried Secure empty - this appears to work, but of course slowly - at 1 second per file will take 6.2 years...
I tried a script called Trash It! - it unlocked and changed permissions on the files in the trash - took 24 hours. It didn't delete them, though - just stuck.
Similarly, Onyx - completetion bar goes most of the way and then just gets stuck.
I also found a terminal command to empty and delete the entire trash folder and then recreate it. That used the rm command, but seemed to be going very slowly or stuck - also left for 24 hour.
Is there anything I can do to empty this trash?
    Thanks in advance...

I would try rm the entire trash directory.

  • I tried to empty the trash, full of back up file from my hard disk and it just says: "The operation can't be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8003)"

I have an external hard disk of 319.73 GB that I use as back up memory and where I put all the movies and other files that I can't leave on the computer as they occupy too much memory space . One day I was deleting all the previous dated back up to have more space on it , but had to stop the trash for doing it cause it was taking too long and now every time that I try to empty the trash it just says "The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8003)" and even if I press CONTINUE it won't empting it . I'm not really pratical with this things and I tried already to find out the solution here and on Google but apparently nobody ever had a similar error code and I don't know what else to do.
    I've a MacBook Pro with a Mac OS X 10.6.8 Version.
Thanks again for the help and sorry if I did some english mistakes !
    PEACE & LOVE
