If you are trying to rename the Home folder it may be easier to simply create a new user account with the name you want, make it an admin account. Log into the new account then delete the old one.

I have made pictures on high resolution with a Canon 100D camera, which means the pictures are 5-6 MB.
But when I edit them on my Ipad2 in Iphoto it decreases the size and resolution of the pictures to about 0.5MB

Are the photos raw photos or jpeg? When you edit raw photos in iPhoto on your iPad, the raw image will not be processed, only the embedded jpeg. That will reduce the resolution of the image considerably.
But when I edit them on my Ipad2 in Iphoto it decreases the size and resolution of the pictures to about 0.5MB

iPhoto on a Mac has a lossless workflow. iPhoto will always store the original image file that you imported and compute an edited version from this stored original. The quality of the photo you will see outside iPhoto will depend on the methode you use for sharing. You can export at the original size or scaled down, depending on the purpose you want teh photo for, small for email and web presentation, full versions for printing, for example. -

You can't find the Airport Extreme then...
I woudl suggest doing a Factory reset....

Release the button. This will factory default reset the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule. -

One is labelled Macintosh HD and the other is Recovery HD.
The computer doesn't always start up like this but it has a few times now.This screen shows up if your holding the option/alt key down or perhaps if it's stuck or damaged.
It's called Startup Manager and shows your bootable options.
Another possible cause is your PRAM is not remmebering the System Preferences > Startup Disk selection.
Do a #2 Reset PRAM and head to System Preferences > Startup Disk and set it and hopefully that should resolve the issue.

If you purchased Lion for your iMac, just log into the Mac App Store from your MacBook using the Apple ID under which you purchased Lion and go to the Purchases page. You will be able to download and install Lion there.

The only place you get get Lion is from the Mac App Store. If you found some other site, that was an illegal copy and almost certainly tied to someone else's Apple ID and hence unusable by you. If the link was just to the Mac App Store, see above.
As to the problem with synchronization to iCloud, that's not a 10.6 question, so I'd suggest you take up that specific issue in either the Lion or iCloud forums, providing full details, and someone there can probably help you sort things out.

Yes, the "Word for Mac 2011" version works just fine on my iMac. Make sure you download and apply the MS provided Updates that are available.

My Canon Pixma MP 540 does not scan any longer after update mountain lion. MP Navigator EX 2.0 starts and immediatley stops and comes with this message:

Does anyone know how to update OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.1. to 10.8.2. on a late 2012 Mac mini. All I get are 'not compatible' messages even using supplementary updates etc?
It appears that many of the problems with the HDMI are the "monitors" that are being used. Samsung and Vizeo both DO NOT support a computer input on HDMI only VGA. There probably are others, manuals must be read to confirm compatability.
I strongly believe that the reason the 10.8.2 update was pulled is due to the fact (it happened to me) that the new Disk Utility creates a Fusion drive if aftermarket SSDs are added to the system. I think Apple wants this propriatary Fusion Drive to be something you buy from them not a "homebrew" for lots less money. -

I updated my OS to mountain lion and since then my mac book pro is virtually useless, seeng pictures, videos, using graphics applications and Iphoto is impossible, the screen goes black, and the system restarts.

Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. A nephew stayed with us to take a course at the local community college last semester. I allowed him use of my mac for research just after I installed Mountain Lion. He decided to "help out" and ran a 3rd party clean and tune up app., Magician. The tune up wiped over 1200 titles of my music in iTunes, also a path of folders with names containing nothing but more empty folders with names. Almost every program I open and run for a short time crashes, also folders and programs are in wrong places, or cannot be located (the nephew, for instance). Up to this time I have always been able to track a problem far enough to resolve it by careful persistence and good luck, but I do not have the tech savvy to solve this one without getting in deeper. I have run disk utility saveral times and always get variations of this:
ACL found but not expected on
"private/etc/resolve.conf"
"private/etc/raddb/sites-enabled/inner-tunnel"
"private/etc/rabbd/sites-enabled/control-socket"
Also, after four years of intense daily use it is cluttered with much junk, and every app that I was curious about, and I am a very curious guy.
So I know my limits, (and now my nephew). I dumped my pc for a Strawberry iMac a few years ago, and so far every problem I've encountered, or brought on myself, the Mac has resolved with its own inner elegance - in spite of my novice bungels - and now I honestly feel ashamed, in addition to the need to apologize to a machine for allowing a peasant into the Royal Grounds - so I am calling the Wise Ones in for this one.
Crazy, I know, but to me a Mac represents something far beyond the ordinary input ➛ process ➛ output title/function customarily assigned to a machine - I sense an odd kind of morality involved, one that I need to respect.
So, these are my reasons for wanting to do a clean install, correctly.

"this message has no content" in Mountain Lion
Ever since I upgraded to Mountain Lion, I often receive "message has no content" for replies to the active email, meaning the one which has been clicked on, and is being displayed. I have to close Mail and re-open before I am able to view the content of the message, though the "no content" error still appears in the email list. Eventually it goes away.
Running 10.8.1, and receiving mail from Exchange 2010. I do not observe this issue with email received by my Gmail account.I currently have this issue, rebuilding and cleaning the mail boxes does nothing... I did not tice once I passed 3000 messages the mail application starts getting funky.
Here are my symptoms:
First the email app stops marking read messages.
App starts slowing down.
Calendar starts giving me it can not communicate with the server
Then it starts showing me no content email messages
So here is my opinion but I need help to confirm... Gathered from this very common problem...
Mac OS does not handle weak or slow internet connections well and does not recover well (Noticed at this at the airport today, also notice this on the iphone, bad wifi really kills any sort of functionality). This might cause the requests to end unexpectedly and return nothing...
There seems to be a size limitation the mail application can handle properly or there is a memory leak in the mail application. From what I read it uses a free DB product that likely doesn't handle large amounts of data very well.
Likely going to switch to Outlook 2011 unless Apple fixes these problems (Apple likely will not fix this as seen in all the dead end blogs for this subject), or not use the mac for work as this makes things more painful than it needs to be. -
Does the old "BackUp Umbrella" work with Mountain Lion
Coming into Mountain Lion, have old files from hard drive from iMac circa last of the Power PC. Tried to use the Backup 3, Version 3.2 (v417), and it does not work, thats ok. I liked this format, as I can select file(s) specific, and how often for backup. Is there something like this with OS 10.8.4, brand new iMac and wanted to set up the Time Machine.
Yes. Of course, it can no longer back up to your iDisk, since Mobile Me is closed.
But it can back up to an external HD as before.
If you really want to use it instead of Time Machine, you've never had a large problem. Restoring from Backup is tedious and error-prone. It's a very old app with major limitations. Still usable, but so are buggy whips.
Time Machine is fully automatic -- the ultimate in set it and let it do it's thing. And if something awful happens, you can put your Mac back exactly the way it was in one fairly simple operation. Not hours or days of trying to recover a few pieces from Backup.
