HT1529 Is 0S X v10.7,4 on my new Mac Pro

Is 0S X v10.7 on my new MacPro?

First I recommend not using FileVault until your system is otherwise operational.
If you completely erased your system, formatted the disk as Mac OS Extenced (Journaled), then installed OS X using OS X Recovery, it will reinstall the system that was originally installed on your Mac - Lion, or Mountain Lion, whichever it was.
After it finishes installing OS X, complete the initial setup and log in. Then, run Software Update and install the updates available for your system. If Software Update reports errors then please explain them in detail.
After that, if the system installed is Lion, and you wish to upgrade it to your previously purchased Mountain Lion, go to the App Store, select the Purchases tab, download, and install it.
Only after all this should you enable File Vault.
To be honest I don't even know which disks am reinstalling on. The top,one or the MACINTSH HD one. Is the latter the restore one? And is the former the one I am using?
Neither do I. To avoid confusion, eject the volumes you are not using. Then you'll know.

  • HT1529 Upgrade to 8GB RAM & an SSD OR purchase New MacBook Pro?

I am looking at upgrading my older mid-2009 2,53 Mhz MacBook Pro to 8GB RAM PLUS a 240GB SSD for around $380. Is it worth doing this or biting the bullet and purchasing a new MBP...lots more expensive. I am not a professional graphics or photographer but have PS6 and LR5 installed and only 4GB RAM....very, very slow. I like doing photo editing etc. Any advice is very much appreciated. Thanks

First I suggest that you go through this comprehensive trouble shooting document and see if you can optimize the performance of your MBP as is is currently configured.  The monetary outlay will be zero.
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3521
If you look at the Crucial web site, you should be able to install 8GB RAM and a 240 GB SSD for $282.
    http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=MacBook Pro (15-inch%2C Mid 2009)&Cat=RAM
Personally, I would install the RAM first and see if that makes a meaningful difference.  Install the SSD only as a last resort.  I have an antipathy towards SSDs based mainly on cost.  Others have different opinions.
Also update your OS to 10.6.8.
Do not be seduced by quad core CPUs.  They will perform faster only if the application is designed to take advantage of all cores.  Most applications are not (at least the older ones).
    Ciao.

  • I just downloaded the new Mac OS X v10.7 Lion, and now when I go on the Mac Store

I just downloaded the new Mac OS X v10.7 Lion, and now when I go on the Mac Store to download a game (N.O.V.A 2) it goes straight to the Launch Pad, as it's supposed to, but the game it's self wont download, it just keeps saying "waiting" I never had this problem before, any ideas?

I'm connected through my Sky Wifi, it's extremely quick, and I don't have any problems with it. Yes it asked me for my Account Email, and password as normal, then it did that little annimation where it flys into the Launch Pad, then it's saying "waiting" where it should be saying downloading.

  • Upgrading to new Mac OS X v10.5.4 Leopard? Is it worth it?

    Hello,
I'm wondering if would be advisable or even possible to upgrade my os to the new Mac OS X v10.5.4 Leopard. I seem to come across issues where I can add new software as they require OS 10.4 or higher. My PC configuration is as follows:
    Machine Model: iMac G5
    CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (3.0)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 1.8 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
    Memory: 512 MB
    Bus Speed: 600 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 5.2.2f2
    GeForce FX 5200
    Hard disk: 80 GB
    System Version: Mac OS X 10.3.9 (7W98)
    Kernel Version: Darwin 7.9.0
Thanks for your help in advance.
    Regards,
    Kash

If you need to use software that requires it, then sure, use it. Your iMac is very capable, but there are just two caveats:
    - Buy more memory, perhaps another 512MB or 1GB, all those whizzy new features and functionality will require memory to run. Memory's never been cheaper.
    - You're going to lose the use of Classic, so any software you currently use that requires OS9 or Classic to run (or to install, even if there is an OSX patch later) will cease to work.
And maybe one more caveat, there's just a lot of other older software that is broken by Leopard (OSX 10.5). A search with Google will find a wealth of information of any issues with a software package and Leopard, it's been out for a year, so there will also be patches or upgrades available for most.

    Hello,
First you must get 10.6, install it & update to 10.6.8 so you have the App Store to buy & download the huge 10.8 Installer.
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    General requirements
       * Mac computer with an Intel processor

  • Can I run Leopard OS X v10.5.8 on a Power Mac G5 (2004)?

I am wanting to upgrade to CS5 but I see more and more people are having problems with Snow Leopard not running on the Power Mac G5 because of it not having an Intel Processor. Mine does have the Dual 2 GHz Processor is it able to run the new CS5 on Leopard OS X v10.5.8? Please advise and thank you for your help.

Adobe CS5 requires an Intel Mac.
That Intel Mac can be running OSX 10.5.8 and still run CS5, but it has to be an Intel machine.
The good news is that even today's Mac Mini is likely a more powerful machine than the biggest G5 available (not just the faster CPU, but every single one of the sub-system components is significantly improved).  And the cost of a new machine isn't so bad, in the context of what Adobe charges for their apps.  Your best bet would be to start scouting around for a new machine that would be ready for CS5.5 when it starts shipping next month.

  • Smart Mailboxes - I use smart mailboxes on my mac pro without issue.  On my iMac OS X v10.7.4 the smart mailboxes disappear when ever mail is restarted.  This does not happen on my mac pro.  Other functions work as intended.

The OS on my iMac is OS X v10.7.4.  No issue setting up the smart mailboxes and they work fine until I restart the imac or restart the mail application.  When I do this the all smart mailboxes (not folders) are gone.  Can someone please point me to where I might look for resolution??

  • How do I reinstall Safari (OS_X v10.5.8) on Mac Pro?

I have a MacPro(on Mac OS_X v10.5.8) and somehow seem to have deleted Safari.  The icon is still there but when you mouse over a question mark appears.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve this problem?  I am looking to download safari and reinstall but don't seem to be able to find the download easily.

  • Mac OS X v10.4 installed on one drive & Mac OS X v10.5 installed on another

In my Power Mac G4 (MDD) I now have 4 drives installed: 2 x 250GB & 2 x 80GB with Mac OS X v10.4 installed on one of the 250GB drives. I would now like to install Mac OS X v10.5 on the second 250GB drive.
Is this possible? I think so, but I am not sure and can find no relevant reference.
The reason, of course, is to be able to continue to run some of my old Mac OS 9 software using "Classic" inside Mac OS X v10.4; this is NOT possible with Mac OS X v10.5 or later. And, of course, lots of new software requires Mac OS X v10.5, so I would like to maintain BOTH operating systems.
My Power Mac (MDD) has a single 1.25 GHz G4 processor 2GB of RAM, and obviously lots of free disc space.
    Any suggestions or recommendations?
    Thanks

I have the same G4 MDD with 4 HDs installed. I have Leopard, Tiger & OS 9.2.2 installed. I can boot into Leopard, Tiger & OS 9, and run classic apps while booted in Tiger. No temp problems. What you want to do is OK.

  • HT1529 where is the disk drive on the new Mac?

i need to install me printer, and im having trouble finding the cd drive, please help

There is no optical drive in the current, "Late 2012" iMac models. If you need to install software only available on a disk, you'll either need another computer that does have an optical drive in which case you can use Remote Disk:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11203
or you'll need an external disk drive. Check with the printer manufacturer, though. They may well offer the drivers as a download.

  • Restore Address Book/Contacts on Mac Pro - Lion v10.7.3

I have lost my contacts.  I can see them in TM, but they won't restore.
I understand that in Snow Leopard that it is necessary to go to the "Library/Application Support/address book start addressbook" folder in Finder and restore from there in TM.
Unfortunately that folder does not exist in Lion.
Where is the equivalent folder in lion?
    Thanks in advance

Quit Address Book. Disable iCloud, if applicable.
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, copy the text on the line below into the box that opens, and press return:
    ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook
With the Finder window open, enter Time Machine and restore. Launch AB and test.
