HT1529 My MacBook air was stolen and I do not have the receipt for the mac anymore, but I think I know who has taken it. How could I find out the serial number for my computer if I do not have the box anymore nor the receipt?

Is it possible to find it out any other way as well?

If you registered it, go to http://supportprofile.apple.com and sign in with your Apple ID. It should also be on the box it came in if you still have it.

I have got the serial number of my MAC and have complained to Local police.

I've had a similar situation like this. What i did was i logged onto icloud.com, using the Apple ID that was connected to the mac, and clicked on "Find My iPhone" and clicked on the device that was stolen. If the device is connected to the internet, you can find its location. it dosent just work for the iphone, it works for iPhones, iPads and i think MacBooks as well.

SIgn in with your Apple ID, the same one you used to access this support forum.
Hopefully, you will see a list of all the devices you registered with your Apple ID, including their serial numbers. Let me know how this works out.
Edit to add: If you enabled "find my imac" on your Pro, you ought to be able to remotely lock it, or even wipe its memory. Click http://www.icloud.com/ sign in with your Apple ID and click the big green "find my iPhone" icon (nevermind the name, it will find all your devices provided they're running Lion or iOS 5).
Then file a police report and nail the b*****d.

you can't trace it with the serial in the US either. Believe me, if it was stolen in Mexico, it is loooong gone. Of course, if you had "find my mac" installed before it was stolen, their may be a small chance you could locate it.

Although Apple does not have a process to track or flag lost or stolen product, you can use My Support Profile to find a list of serial numbers that have been purchased or registered with your Apple ID.
Thats just awful. I hope you had theft insurance for same.
The one downside to a wonderful product is sticky fingered thugs want to steal them.

I would report this to the police and they will help you track down your MacBook Pro and catch the theft.
They will know what to do.
I would go to http://icloud.com to view the location of your laptop.

If you activated "Find My Mac" in iCloud before the loss, maybe. Otherwise no.
