I've followed the instructions to tell the iPod that I want to manage music and video manually, but I still can't add a playlist I've created in iTunes to the iPod...

Your SMTP server host name setting, your SMTP server port setting, whether SSL/TLS is needed or not, amd/or your server login username or password credentais, some combination of these, are likely incorrect here.
These are the typical triggers, when a send (or a forward) fails.
If you have more than one mail account configured within Mail.app, ensure that the mail account you are testing with is configured with the expected SMTP server, and is not referencing the SMTP server for another account.
Connection Doctor (available in the Mail.app menu bar Window menu) can sometimes help figure out some of these connection problems, too.

Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox? 
There is a difference between remembering the name and password in the Password Manager and a "remember me" check box on a web page. 
The latter usually involves the creation of a special "remember me" cookie that is stored on your computer and that is send to the server. 
If that "remember me" cookie is removed or gets corrupted or is not send to the server then the server won't remember you and you need to sign in once again.

You need OS X 10.8 mountain lion, mirror is a feature of that OS and you need to buy it from the app store, OS X 10.7.5 does not do it.
If you don't want to change visit www.airparrot.com a third party app that can do it.

I do not know how to do this with an Apple TV (I don't have one), but as far as I know Apple TV only does mirroring.
If you have an HDMI cable long enough to reach your TV from where you sit, then it's easy. The TV could be set up in Extended Desktop mode (mirroring off) as if it was simply another computer monitor, and then you could just drag windows to it. If you have the Displays icon in your menu bar, that's where the setting is, or if the icon is not there, then the setting is in the Displays system preference. But again, that's for conventionally connected monitors, not Apple TV. If you don't have an HDMI cable and wanted a long one that's affordable you can get those at monoprice.com.
The answer we are still waiting for is if anyone knows if Apple TV can be used in extended desktop (non-mirroring) mode.

Done all that's been suggested but can't receive from Gmail

I have been on an old Mini running 10.4.11 and finally was able to buy a refurbished Mini from Apple, so in making the jump to 10.8 there's a lot to catch up on, including Mail because I've been clinging to the simplicity of Eudora for years till now.
I can send but can't receive. I have tried all the suggestions I found including enabling IMAP in my Google settings, logging in and logging out of Gmail account, and clearing CAPTCHA, and I don't have the Google 2-step security enabled so that's not it. I have no other devices other than the old and now the new computer. Anyone?

What account settings do you mean? I also don't know what a "properly neutralized" screenshot is.
When I am attempting to create the account with account name , email address and password, the error message is:
"Logging in to Google IMAP server "imap.gamil.com" failed. Make sure the user name and password you entered are correct, then click continue. If the information isn't correct, you cannot receive messages."
This was the first window that came up when I opened Mail for the first time. As soon as I clicked CREATE I got that message. I read somewhere to hit the OPTION key when I hit CREATE, but what that apparently accomplished was to bypass the receiving part of setting up, enabling me to continue the account-making process for sending mail which was successful when I sent a test message. Since the test message to receive mail didn't work, I deleted all that and went hunting for information on what to do next.
I know the password and email address are correct. I can't imagine what else to put as the account name other than my actual name which is the name in the upper right corner of the Google inbox page. I tried putting in my account nickname, but that also failed.

Please let me know what exactly are you trying to do using Adobe online service.
You might try accessing the same service for some other PDFs and check.
Have you signed up correctly at "https://cloud.acrobat.com/" using your Adobe ID credentials.
If the same message pops up, then please visit Contact Customer Care as they could let you know if there is any problem with your account.

Are you looking for iPodService.exe?
Might be better to run services.msc from the run dialog and shut down the service polietly.

I'm having a similar problem...but mine results from an OS upgrade from 10.6.4 to 10.8.5.
Where did you access a clean copy of Java SE 6? The link at adobe for archicval plug-ins is a dead download (and it doesn't appear to contain Java SE 6.).

It looks like you are encountering the problem while printing from Acrobat. If that is the case could you please request the same on Acrobat forum(http://forums.adobe.com/community/acrobat/printing_%26_prepress).

Try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account (Store > View My Apple ID on iTunes 11) and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find that book, click the arrow to the left of it, click the 'Report a Problem' button :
and then the 'Report a Problem' link on its line :
and select 'inadvertently purchased' as the problem and fill in the details (iTunes support should reply within, I think, about 24 hours).

Thanks for the reply. The Itunes trouble shooting in Itunes help. I don't get an error message, it just states can't see ipod like if it wasn't plugged in. I do get an error message on a few of the songs when sync that say error 50, and state that they can't be loaded to ipod. The weird thing is that I can load all of my libary except the latest 3 albums. They are in my libary but they won't load. I'm not sure but it seems like it started when the cloud came about from amazon which is where I buy most of my music.

Doublechecking something Emcee. I see you've got Windows 7 x64, so I'm assuming you've got at least 4 GB of RAM. Do you also have an NVIDIA USB EHCI chipset on that PC? If so, see the following Microsoft document:
