HT1539 Can't restore my digital DVD copies from iTunes or from DVD

I downloaded the digital copy DVDs to my computer.  About a year later the hard drive crashed and I lost all my data.
After replacing the hard drive, I was able to re-download all the iTunes purchases except I could not restore my digital DVD copies from iTunes.  When I try to copy again from the DVD, it reads "this code has already been used.  codes can only be used once."  Even though I am logged in with my Apple ID, which should be linked to the code that was used and I am on an authorized computer.
It seems I should be able to restore the digital copies to my computer even though they are single-use codes...

You are not attempting to restore a digital copy. You are attempting to redownload the digital copy.
Did you make a backup of this file along with the backup of all other important files on your computer?

  • I can't restore 'library' with support files from Time Machine

backup - I can't restore 'library' with support files from Time Machine - Ask Different
Due to an accident, my entire applications folder with all the support files, including plists and caches got deleted.
I tried restoring by files from the most recent Time Machine backups but I cannot retrieve my applications with the support files.
I even tried it with migration assistant on a new image.
    Is this impossible?
    Must I start from scratch?
    Details of the ‘accident’
I was using this app called ‘AppCleaner’ that also automatically deletes related support files which are normally left behind if one simply trashes an Application.
In the search view, I typed the app name and I selected all the apps in the results using Command + A. Unfortunately, this selected every single Application in the Applications Folder in the background and I trashed and deleted all files.
    Anyway.
I tried to restore the applications and library from my Time Machine Back-ups but failed to do so because I didn’t have enough space to restore. (I have a 11inch Macbook Air 2012 64GB SSD
When I tried to restart in recovery mode, I had the same problem, I was disallowed the option to restore using my time capsule backups because my SSD didn’t have enough space for the backup.
I then tried to restore it to a totally different but new image on a 64GB USB3.0 Sandisk USB Stick, but the process stopped after hours of being stuck around 30.4 percent and the computer was unable to boot, leaving me with a persistent verbose message suggesting it couldn’t identify the os, kernel or anything.
I finally tried restoring the state using migration assistant on the very same SSD that had my files missing. This happened successfully and I have all my applications in the applications folder.
But now I have 13GB free (I had 2GB before) and all my application support files, saved states, preferences, caches and customizations are gone.
Basically, it feels like I just got a new macbook with my documents and itunes folder loaded on to it.
How can I get my apps back to the pre-deletion state or is this impossible? Do I have to start from scratch? I thought my Time Machine Backups would restore it to exactly the same state, am I wrong?

Can you simply navigate to your Time Machine backup with the Finder? Treat it like an external hardrive and just look for your old Applications folder. /Applications/
Also, quite a few apps put config and support files in ~/Library/Application\ Support/
So you may be able to get the files from there as well.

You should probably disable the autosync functionality first by going to Edit -> Preferences, clicking the Devices tab, and enabilng the prevent iPods,iPhones, and iPads from automatically syncing option.
Next, authorize the new computer with your iTunes Account.  In iTunes, choose Store -> Authorize This Computer and enter in the correct credentials.
If possible, either copy a backup file from your old computer to your new one or create a new backup of your iPod in iTunes before letting it sync.  To do this, right->click on your iPod Touch from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes and choose Backup. You might also want to take a look at this article to see what it all included in the backup.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
Now onto synced content such as music, videos, photos, etc.  For iTunes purchases you can copy them back into iTunes by choosing File -> Transfer Purchases.  For all other nonpurchased iTunes content, see this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering different software availbable to assist you with this task.

Once the backup has been made and all other synced content such as music, videos, and photos are back in your iTunes library, restore your iPod from that backup you made earlier.  Here is more on backing up and restoring your iPod.

    Hiya!
It depends on what kind of digital copy you have.  This article goes ino details regarding the two types, and depending on the type you have, you may or may not need the DVD to redeem the code.

  • Can I restore un-Backed up photos from a disabled iphone 4S?

Someone played with my husband's phone and set a password, he tried to guess it all day, and ended up disabling it. He went to the ATT store and the Apple Store for help, we learned that we can easily restore it, but we will lose anything not backed up onto a computer (in our case this is a LOT of important photos)  We would really like to access the unsaved photos before the phone is wiped clean.  Our old computer was a 2005 imac that never had a new enough itunes version to sync with the iphone 4, so we would connect it like a digital camera. About two months ago the computer broke, so we have not uploaded the photos in awhile. As of this week, we have a new computer, but we hadnt synced the phone yet (and can't now since the phone is locked now).
I went to an article called "iOS: Device disabled after entering wrong passcode" at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212
    I read this:
If you have previously synced your device with itunes:
You may be able to reset the passcode by restoring the device.
Connect the device to the computer with which you normally sync and open iTunes.
Note: If iTunes prompts you to enter the passcode, try another computer that you have synced with. Otherwise, go to "If you have never synced your device with iTunes", below.
Right-click the device in the left column and select Back up.
When the backup is complete, select Restore.
When finished, restore from your most recent backup.
If you have never synced your device with itunes:
Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button.
iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
He had synced his phone one time with a friends computer just so he had some music on it. Since the friend is coming in town for Christmas we are hoping to connect to his laptop and see if it is not too late to back it up before we restore it. The only downside is that he will have to go without the phone until his friend.
Has anyone had experience with this?  I cannot find a single post about someome doing this.  I've seen posters suggest using Image Capture, but again, I can't find comfirmation that it has been done. And it doesn't seem to work for me.  We have a lot of pictures of our kids that we have not backed up and would love to salvage them! Thanks!

Update: He connected his iphone to his friends laptop (the last/only computer it had ever been synced with) it allowed him to do a back up.... AND ..after a few minutes the phone allowed him to start guessing the password again. This was welcome news since in the time between him guessing the password too many times and that point he had learned the password.
We thought the back up might work since it said it might in the apple support article above, but were very surprised it allowed him to guess the password again. Pictures saved AND notes, contacts,..

  • How can I restore part of a library from vault?

Hi All, I have a backup-restore problem here.
I have a vault that was current *before my vacation*. I have since added several hundred pictures and done some keywording and photo editing.
Then I accidentally deleted a project (I thought I was deleting a single picture! ugh!). This project is now in the trash, but it also exists in my vault back at home.
I really only want the pictures and Aperture metadata concerning a single project. The instructions for restoring vaults indicate I can only restore the entire library. I don't want to do that because that sounds like it will clobber my new pictures from this vacation.
The important things here are that 1) I want the metadata and versions of the deleted files, which I assume are stored in the vault along with the masters, (I.e., not only the masters, which are available in the trash) and 2) I don't have enough hard drive space to have two copies of my library on my computer.
    Any ideas?
    thanks,
    nathan

    Back from vacation!
    That sounds pretty easy, RB.
I do have a follow-up. The project that I deleted was pretty large. Now that I've copied it to my local hard drive, the amount of free space on the hard drive is less than the size of the dangling project. Will this be a problem when I import the project? When I import a project, will Aperture make a copy in the library, or will it merely absorb the project as a whole, never needing to make a second copy?
    thanks,
    nathan

  • I have yosemite on my iMac.Can i restore to an earlier time from my external hard drive when i had Mavericks installed?

Hi all. I have Yosemite on my iMac. Can i restore via my external hard drive to an earlier time when i had Mavericks on my iMac? If i can which operating system will i end up with? I would like to do this because i prefer Mavericks to Yosemite. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I've never seen that problem, but others have reported it. Maybe you should search for those other topics. You might try the following:
Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Then download and install the OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 Combo Update.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
    5. Reinstall Yosemite from Scratch:
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite.
Then download and install the OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 Combo Update.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible

  • Can I restore a new hard drive from a previous time machine back-up?

    Hi there,
My MacBook Pro 13 inch is 4 years old.
The computer began to freeze/stop working, so I took it to an Apple care centre and they informed that my hard drive has crashed and has to be replaced.
Luckily, I backed up my old hard drive a few days before with an external hard drive using Time Machine. My question is: can I restore this new hard drive with my old time machine backup that is on my external hard drive? If so, how do I do this?
    Thanks

Of course! If you couldn't, Time Machine would be rather worthless, now wouldn't it?

  • Can I restore an iPhone 5 backup on iTunes to an iPhone 4S?

I had (still have) a 4S; I upgrade to the 5 on 10/25/12. I backed up my 4S and loaded that backup on to my 5 on 10/25/12, then I erased the 4S. Well, I just lost my iPhone 5 and I was able to restore my old 4S with the 10/25/12 back that I made (I must admit I was resonably satisifed with this). However when I was looking thru my 4S today (Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Manage Storage Plan), it still shows my (3) devices (iPhone 5, iPhone 4S & iPad). When I click on the iPhone 5, it says the latest backup was on 11/21/12, which is basically 2 days before I lost it.
So my question is, can I restore my 4S to the 11/21/12 backup that I did with my iPhone5? If so, how do I do it. I do realize that anything I've done on the 4S since I restored it will be gone (only 1-day since I restored it yesterday). I was in Mexico for a week and lost it there which is why there I have a time gap.

  • HT4901 Can I restore my calendars and reminders from iCal?  If not, can I restore them from Time Machine?

Apparently I allowed iCloud to delete all of my calendar and reminder information from my Mac.
Can I restore it from iCloud, if not can I restore it from Time Machine?

It sounds as though it's not in iCloud anymore.
You may find that restoring from Time Machine results in the information simply disappearing again. You might try this: disable iCloud syncing, restore from Time Machine, re-enable syncing and choose the merge option when presented.

    Hi
I downloaded our database backup file ('gertes_10012014_074100.bak') from Godaddy so I can restore it to my local db called 'gertes'.
    I ran:

    MOVE 'gertes_log.ldf' TO 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\gertes_log.LDF'
