last thing i want to do after gifting a 36 song playlist is to re send it to an alternative email if im going to be charged again........... but i have re sent it twice (so 3 times in all) there is NO mistake in the email addy and the recipient has had no email at all, i have checked....... personally! so not a mix up and yes i have checked all spam and bulk mail trash folders etc any help gladly received

What was the error that you got ?
Does anything show on your account's purchase history ? If you log into your account on your computer's iTunes via the Store > View Account menu option, you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it. Click on that and you should then see a list of your purchases (the most recent is above the list).
If you have been charged twice then try the 'report a problem' link to contact iTunes Support : http://reportaproblem.apple.com
If the 'report a problem' link doesn't work then you can try contacting iTunes Support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption
If you haven't then they might just be temporary store holding charges - from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3702 :
As with many other merchants, the iTunes Store and Mac App Store places an authorization hold on your payment card account for the approximate amount of any purchase you make.
Authorization holds are removed by your financial institution shortly after your purchase clears. The time it takes to remove authorization requests varies by financial institution.

It depends on how you originally purchased them.
If you purchased them as an album you cannot download them for free individually because the details of the original purchase would show that an album was purchased. And this is true vice versa too, even if you have purchased all the songs from one album individually.
You need to download the album/songs the same way you originally purchased them

Its just that i previously asked similar question and one guy answered that you have to download a past purchase again like the original purchase. In this case the orginal purchase was the whole album. Also I then downloaded the whole album after downloading the individual songs.

Once you have created a rescue address, you cannot delete it, nor can you change it to the same address as used by your ID. There are numerous providers you can get additional email addresses from, such as Hotmail, Yahoo, Google etc etc.
