There's no way the MacBookPro will boot to Leopard.
Snow Leopard may be possible, but you'd need the original discs from Apple customer Service - the retail disc isn't a high enough version.

I have a MacBook that for some reason won't take an OS. My thought is to install the OS from my MacPro on a 2.5" in an enclosure and put it in the MacBook.
How would I go about installing Leopard on my hard drive this way?

Installing onto an external HD should be a routine matter. Ensure that the ext HD is partitioned w/a single partition, has the GUID partitioning scheme, and is formatted Mac OS X. Personally, I prefer FireWire to USB. FW is significantly faster than USB. BTW, ensure that the MacPro has the latest OS update on it. That should allow it to boot the MacBook, but I don't have either to do any testing. BTW, if you're getting those machines sans their HDs because of problems, my experience indicates that most issues are SW related and not HW related.

Can't get Leopard to install on my G4. Everything seems to be in order, but when it tells me to choose a location for the installation, there are no locations to select from. There are over 10 GB of free space available.

10 GBs is not enough space since Leopard needs 11-12 GBs during installation.
If no viable drives are displayed in the selection window, then that means the currently installed system is defective. Try the following:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
If this doesn't help then you will need to backup your files and erase the drive before installing Leopard. Be sure you have a retail Leopard installation package. If you have only a Leopard Upgrade disc, then you cannot do an Erase and Install.

How do I install Leopard on my external FW drive?

Hi, 30 minutes ago I went out and bought a new external FW 750gb drive. I was planning on using the method described in here:http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20071025100548752 but you now have to pay for it and I don't want to for one bit of info. How was it done. I want 4 partitions. I want the leopard boot disc on one partition, leopard on another. Time machine on another and a folder for my music backup lastly.
Any help anyone? I don't even know which type of data to have it formatted in. Journaled, extended etc.

The key to the install on an external firewire drive that you want to use with Leopard as a boot drive is this... go to the disk utility and click on the firewire drive in the left column. Go to the Partition tab, click it and under the "Volume Scheme:" click on the button and select the number of partitions you want to set up. Now go to "Options" at the bottom of the menu and click it to discover the trick to this settup: select the first partition scheme "GUID Partition Table" and then click "OK"
Don't forget to name each partition in the first menu and make sure the format is Mac OS Extended (journaled) if you desire the journaling feature. Now click on the "Apply" button and you will now be able to boot the Leopard install disk and select the external firewire drive for the install. I did this and it works great!

How do I install Leopard on an old PowerMac so I could sell it?

I wasn't sure if this is an appropriate question -
but I have an old PowerMac G4 MDD ProMax that I would like to delete, clean install, so that I could sell it.
What is the best way to do that? I have my own Leopard discs that I could use to install, but how do I set up the User information?

You need to either buy a new Leopard DVD and license for the computer you are selling to make it a legal sale, or let the buyer know that the computer comes without an OS and he has to buy the DVD and license.
Also the DVDs that come with a computer will not work on another computer.
Also be sure that the old G4 will support Leopard. Does it meet the specs?

Leopard is slower on the newest Mac Pros and Mac Books, not sure why, other than lack of RAM. I have installed in on a new Mac Pro Two 2.66GHz DCIX - 2GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT.....
Basically I'm not the only one seeing the slow down when moving from application to application, etc... with this specific setup and have read review that 2GB is the bare minimum for the type of work I do, and the RAM hungry appz I use (CS3). What is happening is that Leopard is probably using your Hard Drive to compensate for the lack of RAM installed in your system, thus causing a lot of delay due to the hard drive needing to feed the actual file, but also pumping extreme amounts of data out as OSX's "virtual Memory".
You can back track and install Tiger if you have the latest disk. I can't remember if it is on the Leopard or the Tiger disk but when you boot from one of the two, you have the option of installing an later version of OSX. From what I can remember it is a sub menu item in the main menu when booting from the disk. I haven't done it but I know Apple puts it in as option just in case.

My imac desktop crashed, had a white screen, inserted startup disc, I want to restore all info from before but don't know how without re-installing leopard..

I went online and in the original content booklet that came with my mac. Ive tried starting it up holding shift, option, and control option P and R. I put in the original startup/install cd but I want to avoid re-installing everything and losing all my content. (files, songs etc). I have been unable to install snow leopard on my external drive, when I put the install disc in the drive on the iMAC, it shows up on the desktop, but i cannot get it to install on the external drive, the iMAC has Lion installed.

I'd like an answer to the original question, too. I have a brand new Intel iMac which came preloaded with Lion. I'd like to install Snow Leopard on an external hard drive for a variety of reasons. I would rather NOT erase the internal hard drive of the iMac, if possible. Of course, I get this same message that, "You cannot install Snow Leopard on this machine running Lion" more or less. I was recently given a Power Mac G5 (PPC) by a friend of mine to be able to use for our multimedia business. The PPC came loaded with Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.1. Now my first dilemma was that when I went to install Logic 8 on the system I recieved an error message that "this version of logic requires a minimum of pro application update 4.0 and prokit version whatever" either way it didnt work. I wasn't really bothered by this at first until I realised that finding pro application update 4.0 would be about as hard as finding waldo. Eventually after hours of looking I located the update on of all places the Apple site I initially started searching on all to find out Tiger 10.4.1 does not meet the minimum requirements to install this update. So I came to the conclusion updating my OS to Leopard 10.5.8 would be the best possible outcome and hopefully meet the minimum requirements to run Logic 8. My friend just happened to have a .dmg file from his previous installation of OS X Leopard 10.5.8 on his other PPC which I had to burn to a disc (using THIS PPC) in order to be able to boot. Which brings me to where Im at right now. I cant get the disc to boot no matter what I try. Please help!

You may find a better answer on the "G5" forum...but, I had no problem installing Leopard on my son-in-law's 2005 G5, 20" iMac. I don't understand why it won't load from the built in disk drive since this is the way I installed it.
Are you sure that the disk you're using in the basic Leopard OS? It should work.
Hopefully you'll solve your problem in the "G5" forum.
