HT1547 How do I repair RAM banks?

System,
Mac BookPro i7, 2.66 intel
late 09/early10
Samsung 5ooG SSD
16G RAM
Symptom,
System freeze as audio loops or skipps, followed by 3 beeps then auto shut down
30% of the time it restarts after showing grey multi language screen.
60% of the time I can get things back up by pulling out then reseating RAM
Movement dosen't seem to effect things either way as it fails sometimes just sitting
there, and sometimes after being in transit, there is no one action that initates failure.
Same problem before and after ROM & RAM upgrades.
Troubleshoot,
RAM itself confirmed good. New SSD seems good. OS seems good, while operating
properly all ports & DVD nominal
Suspected problem,
RAM bank faliure, pin connection failure.
Question,
The only thing I haven't tried is reinstalling the OS, Is there any reason to think this is a
OS problem?
Any thoughts anyone??

I agree with Ralph having Apple check it, I have heard the best RAM tests available at home are not that much compared to what the big companies have in the arsenal.
Corsair is a good reputable company but RAM is such an insanely precise thing to get right, which is why all the trustworthy RAM companies have lifetime exchange warranties on their RAM. Even they know it isn't enough to be the best RAM company, mistakes slip through.
I never buy RAM from Apple and most of the time it's great and I saved money, and the rest of the times I exchange the chips for ones that don't crash.

  • No RAM banks passed memory testing?

I was running Firefox and everything froze up, even the mouse was stuck. I tried to force quit, but it didn't work. So, I turned the computer off, and when I tried to restart I get nothing. The fans start up, but the screen remains black and I hear 3 loud beeps.
I looked this up and it means *no RAM banks passed memory testing*. I have no idea what that means, but I need to fix it ASAP since all my schoolwork is on this computer. With limited computer knowledge, is there a way I can fix this myself? (i.e., mashing special sequences of keys while putting my feet behind my head and chanting OM?)
The nearest Apple store is soo far away... This has never happened before, and I haven't had any problems since I bought the thing almost 3 years ago.
    Maybe I'm just due?

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
First, remove anything attached externally to your Powerbook.
    Reset your PMU: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449
    Next, reset PRAM: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
    Can you boot now?
If not, next you should reseat (take it out and put it back in) the memory. Can you boot now?
Next, you can try replacing the memory (take both out if you have 2 and get one replacement to see if it works). Can you boot now?
If these steps didn't work, this is likely a logic board issue. There are some vendors who will repair the memory slots, or Apple will replace the logic board (Apple doesn't repair your logic board). Some Apple stores have a flat rate (around $325+) to repair anything wrong with your Powerbook.
If may be that an Apple Authorized Service Provider is closer to you, which you can find at http://www.apple.com/buy/locator/service/

  • How do i repair or recover data from a corrupt USB external hard drive that does not show up on my Mac desktop or disk utility

How do i repair or recover data from a corrupt USB external hard drive that does not show up on my Mac desktop or disk utility?
Last night i was using my external hard drive, for some reason the folder just closed and i couldn't find it on my desktop.
After googling solutions, i found it in the disk utilities, i clicked on the 'repair' button many times, but it said the 'error...' message.
So i ejected it to try again, now when i connect the USB external hard drive it doesn't show up on my desktop or disk utilities.
I really just want to either repair or recover the data on it because it literally has everything (documents, work files, photos etc) on it,
I downloaded an application to recover my files but it needs the USB to at least show up.recognise it which mine doesn't.
I know i should've backed it up on another USB, this definitely teaches me for next time to back up all my files.
Are the files lost forever or can i recover them by going to a shop or using a software?

    Thank you for responding.
This might sound stupid since i'm not really knowledgeable with Macs,
but since all my files were moved from my mac computer to the external hard drive,
is it possible to recover those files through my Mac - like recovering deleted files?

Pages 08 fonts- problems with Arial, Times New Roman - how do I repair them?
    Using 10.6.8 on MacBook Pro

I am running Snow Leopard. Transferring the same texts to TextEdit has no problems, so this is a Pages problem, I think.  Corruption of Times New Roman and Arial fonts, I suspect, but where? and what do I do about it? I just need to be pointed to a source of advice, I think.
    Thanks

  • How do I repair the LCD backlight?

I'm in the middle of a fiasco with my iMac (read all about it here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=822352&tstart=0). Basically I sent the computer off for repair of the power supply and got it back with a non-functioning LCD.
So it appears that the backlight is out. Using a flashlight at an angle, I can see the entire screen image (my desktop and all the icons). In normal light the screen looks black.
The question is, how do I repair it? I opened the computer and found nothing obvious wrong. There is a four inch by one inch plastic thing located just below the DVD drive with two wires going to the LCD, and the lower wire seemed like it had a loose connection. I did not pull the guts completely out to access the LCD.
I would like to fix this myself if I can be sure of the problem. I live 100 miles away from an Apple service center, so I would have to UPS it to them. CompUSA, which did the power supply repair, said I would need a whole new LCD panel for $750. He actually said that he didn't know what was wrong with it, and he would have to start replacing parts at my expense until he found what worked. The LCD panel was to be the first try (after a free power supply and logic board from the repair extension program).

I found the problem and repaired it myself. The inverter was bad, and I found a used one on ebay for $39. The computer is not in warranty.
Apple Tech support and the Apple Stores both said that for iMacs, they do NOT accept shipments and require in-person, carry-in service to Apple Stores. Third-party service centers (e.g. CompUSA) may allow mail-in service.
I'm going to get Apple Care with my next iMac, but I don't like the fact that I will have to get service from an "authorized" third-party service center that honors Apple warranties (e.g. CompUSA). I would prefer Apple service, but 4+ hour drives each way are out of the question.

  • How do I repair a scratch on my laptop?

How do I repair a scratch on my laptop?

If its on the alloy casing, you DONT.
Live with the "beauty mark".   As someone with a fair amount of metal polishing skills over 20 years...., I can tell you there is nothing more absurdly 'painful' than removing scratches from MATTE ALUMINUM.
Remove a scratch off metal? EASY
But.......then then have to blend the sanding out,...then you have to raise the finish and then LOWER IT to match the matte finish, which is absurdly HARD.
If you try to buff / sand etc. it out, youll make a small spot look like a giant eyesore.
    Only options are:
A: pay for a replacement bottom plate or (i dont know where your scratch is) unibody (too expensive really)
    B: live with the scratch
C: put a sticker over it
