HT1550 WAV to mp3 in Itunes 11.0.3

I just downloaded Itunes 11.0.3 and now I can no longer seem to convert WAV files to mp3.  Any tips?  I've had no problems with this in the past.  For some reason now it seems to only let me create WAV versions.  Help!  (and thanks)

You're welcome.

You'll need to adjust your import settings to mp3 first. For instructions, see the following document:

  • Converting .wav to .mp3 in iTunes

Very simple question: I have some wav files on my computer that I need to convert to mp3. I can do this with iTunes right? The wav files are not currently in my iTunes library. I tried simply dragging them over to my iTunes window, after selecting "Import Using: MP3 Encoder" in the Import Settings of the Preferences window, but that didn't work (it didn't convert it when importing). Can someone help? Thank you. My iTunes is version 8, OS is 10.5.7.

select the files in iTunes and, from the advanced menu, choose +create MP3 version+.
edit: just noticed you're on iTunes 8 so it might be different in that version. see this KB article: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1550.
alternatively, use one of these free apps to convert the wav's before adding to your library.

  • Installed itunes 11.0.2 on Mac OSX 10.6.8 - why no Size or Kind in View Options? Can't distinguish WAVs from mp3s!

How can I distinguish mulitple WAVs from mp3s in Itunes 11.0.2 when no "size" or "kind" options are available? Also, how can I recover lost playlists?

Itunes crashed today & automatically installed 11.0.2 when I reopened it Chris.
There are definitely no "size" or "kind" boxes under View>Options, see screengrab. I didn't delete any playlists, they disappeared!

  • I just converted wav to mp3, but now I can't locate the files.

I just converted wav to mp3, but now I can't locate the files.

make sure you have the exact path written correctly. If you can, show what the filename is in itunes, and the filename when you are looking at the song files (i.e. through my comuter). Make sure these are the same, and that they are all usable itunes formats.

  • How do i import music already on my computer to mp3 in itunes?

I create music with Cubase Elements and Sibelius 7.  But these programs don't output mp3.  Until I loaded in Lion, I was able to use a program called Switch to convert formats (e.g., Wave to mp3).  But now that my Mac won't support Power PC apps, my computer is less useful than it was before - it won't convert to mp3 with Switch (not to mention that it couldn't even recognize a number of my older programs).  I just learned that iTunes will import CDs to mp3, if I tell it to.  How can I get iTunes to import music files that I create on my computer?

Lloyd, Switch has two Mac versions, Intel and PPC.  Are you sure that neither one will work on your mcahine?
I am not familiar with Cubase or Sibelius, but if they can output WAV, AIFF, Apple Lossless, or AAC, you can add the file to iTunes, and use iTunes to convert to MP3.
Yes, as you suggest, you can use iTunes to import from CD to MP3.  Simply go to the Import Settings in your iTunes preferences, and set it for MP3 with whatever bit rate and options you like.  (Most people prefer 256.)  Then rip as usual.

  • WAV to MP3 conversion not working

I just bought an iTalk which records voice memos as .wav files. I right-clicked on one and chose "Convert Selection to MP3" and iTunes creates an .mp3 file (888kb from the original 1.2 MB .wav file), but when I try playing it in WinAMP, I get no sound. I sent it to a co-worker and he hears nothing as well. Help?

I have tried multiple times to do what you have on iTunes, just in order to make an mp3 cd for my car with more songs that a regular audio cd. It is frustrating that you cannot do this with the music you have purchased on iTunes.
You can very easily do it.
Simply select MP3 CD or Data CD.
In order to make an MP3 CD, the files must already be MP3 but converting is simple.

The normal situation would be wanting to convert .m4a (AAC or Apple Lossless) to .mp3 as these are both music file formats. The extension .mp4 is normally for a video file and iTunes itself will only convert music files from one format to another.
For details on how to convert between music formats see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1550
If you want to convert the audio track of an .mp4 video to a .mp3 file then you are going to need to use a different utility.

  • Add mp3 to iTunes, delete file from Downloads, add Grouping?

Can anyone help me make an Applescript (or it may need to be two) that can be used as a folder action to watch the Downloads folder and:
    1) Open .mp3s in iTunes and set track Grouping ID3 field to 'singles', then delete original .mp3s.
    2) Open .zip and .rar archives, parse then unarchived folder for .mp3 files, add them to iTunes, set track Grouping ID3 field to 'albums', then delete original folder of .mp3s.
2a) Bonus points if the script adds the .mp3s to itunes in descending order based on file name track numbers (track 10, track 9, track 8...).

  • Add mp3 to iTunes, delete file from Downloads, add Comment?

I'm trying to make a folder action that will:
    - Watch my 'Downloads' folder for downloaded .mp3 files.
    - Add those .mp3 files to iTunes, letting iTunes copy to music folder.
    - Delete the original file from the 'Downloads' folder.
    - In iTunes, append '#single' to the Comment field of added .mp3.
So far I have the first three working, but cannot get it to append the #single part to the Comment field, here's what I have:
    property myFiletypes : {".mp3"}
on adding folder items to this_folder after receiving added_items
    set myFinderItems to added_items
    tell application "System Events"
set allItems to every item of myFinderItems
    end tell
repeat with i from 1 to the count of allItems
    try
    -- get an item
set myFinderItem to (item i of allItems as alias)
-- check if it is a folder
tell application "Finder" to set myItemIsFolder to (kind of myFinderItem = "Folder")
    -- if it isn't a folder...
    if myItemIsFolder is false then
-- see if the file has the right extension
tell application "Finder" to set myItemExtension to "." & (name extension of myFinderItem) as string
    if myFiletypes contains myItemExtension then
set mySongName to myFinderItem as alias
    -- add track to iTunes
    tell application "iTunes"
    add mySongName
    end tell
tell application "Finder" to delete file myFinderItem
    end if
    end if
    on error
    display dialog "Error"
    end try
    end repeat
    end adding folder items to

Better yet, an Applescript that can be used as a folder action to watch the Downloads folder and:
    1) Open .mp3s in iTunes and append #single to track Comments, then delete original .mp3s.
    2) Open .zip and .rar archives, parse then unarchived folder for .mp3 files, add them to iTunes, append #album to track Comments, then delete original folder of .mp3s.
2a) Bonus points if the script adds the .mp3s to itunes in descending order based on file name track numbers (track 10, track 9, track 8...).

  • Can't convert to MP3 with itunes music

I have downloaded some music but I am not able to convert my purchased itunes songs to MP3 so that I can put it into a personal movie maker project that I am doing. When I try to convert the song, I get this message: "Amazing Grace" could not be converted because protected files cannot be converted to other formats. How can I get this into my Windows Movie Maker?

    Di5,
The protected tracks sold in the iTunes Music Store are not mp3s, and under the terms of the ITMS license cannot be legally converted to mp3 format. iTunes does not provide a way to do the conversion, and if you are a rocket scientist and figure it out, you would not (as Paul correctly notes) be allowed to discuss it in this Forum.
To get mp3s, you need to look elsewhere, such as (1) rip from CD (2) purchase from an online store that sells songs in mp3 format, such as audiolunchbox.com, or (3) purchase from an online store that allows format conversion. On the last item, puretracks.com states that "When Puretracks files are burned to a CD through Windows Media Player 9, these music CDs will be recognized and can be ripped by iTunes."
    Hope this helps.

  • Can a PDF in iBooks link to an mp3 in iTunes

We understand that documents are siloed with the apps in the iOS 5 file directory. However, if I want to link a PDF in iBooks to an mp3 in iTunes is that possible?

    doubt it
seen pdfs in genral which have links to other parts of the document
and links to webpages but never seen an pdf which liked to a file on a disc
and I speak about general not ios which is much more restricted then a pc
so I would not hold my breath for that feature being supported or introduced
