what can i do to fix this?
Strangely enough, I exchanged the ATV2 and ATV3 and now both work fine. I suspect it may have something to do with the fact that (previously) the ATV3 (1080p) was behind an ethernet hub. Somehow the ATV2 (720p) does not mind being behind the hub. Either that or iTunes suddenly became smarter since the exchange . Anyway, it works now so I'm not touching it. Thanks for the suggestion.

For each mail account, along with designating a primary SMTP server, you should be able to just turn off any and all other SMTP servers you have listed. In that case, if there is a problem with comcast, the message send should just fail.
Also make sure your comcast smtp settings are correct (port, likely 587 but might be something else for comcast, whether you should be suing SSL or not, do you need authentication or not).

Playing music while playing games on ipod video
I have read that listening to music while playing a game is possible but not for me. Is this true? Also, i can't seem to add music to my slideshow. Are there any tricks? thanks!
Sorry i meant playing music on the new games you can download from Itunes. It works on the factory loaded games. thanks.

Playing Music while playing online muted video
I created a webpage that uses HTML5 video which has no audio so I have muted it using Javascript. I'd like to allow users of my site to play their own music while they watch the video but as soon as the video starts the music fades - regadless of browser. Any solutions/ideas???

We have tried dozens of times to uninstall and cleanout every file. Even tried opening perms on the filerepository. Tried installing with msiec and logged. iTunes will install but AMD will not so we cannot connect the phones and pods. Any new suggestions would be greatly appreciate because we are about to give up and maybe pay somebody to try to install it which is ridiculous. I can supply the install log if anyone is interested. Here's what I did:
First I tried the Winsock reset in the Command prompt. Nothing changed.
Next, I tried the instructions on http://http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4123. The only other program that came up on the 'Winsock Providers' tab on the program was 2 Windows Live applications, which I can do without. So I deleted all Windows Live Applications.
I did the Winsock reset in the Command Prompt again and rebooted my comp.
Unfortunately, nothing has changed. iTunes keeps freezing at various stages of the sync, then shows the candy cane-striped bar with either the words 'Finishing sync' or 'Cancelling sync', before showing the Apple logo.
Sometimes, iTunes gets to the syncing stage - "Copying # of ####" - where it will trudge through the first, second and third tracks before flashing "Copying 4 of ####" for a split second and I catch "Cancelling sync" briefly before the Apple logo appears.
Again, I've repeated the steps I mentioned in my previous post. Does ANYONE know when the new version of iTunes is set to be released?! This one is driving me INSANE, to say the least!! -

Try this,when you open iTunes is there a 'iPod' button on the top right side of the page.If there is then it shows it's recognising your iPod. Click on the 'View' button and then click on 'show sidebar'. Your iPod should be there under Devices.

I have just upgraded to the latest version of OSX as invited by Apple. Since then iTunes will not play and my volume controls have stopped working - in Preferences the sound controller is not able to find any input or output devices. What is going on?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
There will be no audio output in safe mode. The question to be answered by the test is whether any devices are listed in the Sound preference pane. After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -

Same Problem here. Also, when this happens, it loses whatever album art was playing before. I've tried reinstalling and it doesn't help. Any ideas how to fix this? It's really annoying!

I upgraded to the latest iTunes 10.2.2.12 and now it won't play any music. I can do everything else, except play music. I'm on Windows 7. Any ideas?
i had this problem and finally figured it out. all that you need to do is go to your start menu and click on computer. select your main drive, (local drive) c usually. Next open the users file follow by your user name file, which is just like it sound it is a file labled as whatever your name is as you have it on your computer. Then you open up the AppData file. Next open the Roaming file. After that open the Apple Computer file followed by the iTunes file. Now you should see the folder labled iTunes Plug-ins folder. Now just Delete that folder. After that go to your iTunes and play your music.
If for some reason you don't see the AppData file you need to go to the upper left of your screen on select organize. a drop down menu will appear and you need to select folder and searc options. a small folder options window will appear. in this window you need to select the view tab. you need to select the show hidden files, folders, and drives bubble. now hit apply and then ok. that will allow the AppData folder to be seen. -
my iphone 4 just randomly turned off whilst I was playing music. It wont turn back on. Ive plugged it into the computer and tried to charge it but nothing is happening. I have also tried this rest thing and it's not working. but I'm wondering if i was doing it right.. I was holding the power button at the top of my phone whilst pressing the home button (???) HELP ME PLEASE! x

Noticed that you can play your iPod music while on an iPhone call? How sweet is that? Play music while on a long rambling call, or hold.
How? Simple: once you are on a call switch back to the iPod and hit play.
BUT the music is so loud that you really can't hear your call.
Has anyone found a way to independently adjust the volume of the iPod and iPhone? Pretty sure I know the answer to that.
Sadly your caller cannot hear your music either. Why not? What a rad feature that would be, play music for you and your pal while on a call.

I am always wanting to record a video and play music while doing it but I can't. I have to get another device to play music but hat doesn't sound very clear. Please add this feature.

Playing music while running app
After updating to 3.0 i am unable to listen to music while using certain apps. I used to be able to double tap the home button and the ipod controls would pop up and i could play music while using an app. Now with this crappy update, it brings me to the music section of my ipod and closes my app. I dont see why you would take this feature out, so i imagine its still possible to do this. Is there still a way to do this or did apple just feel like taking this feature out?
Still works for me. I ran an App and then double clicked the home button and the iPod Touch displayed a small window for music controls on top of the App window. After that I hit Close and the window closed leaving the App intact.
Lets see if you have your settings set as mine and take it from there. Go to *Settings - General - Home* and then see if there is a Check Mark on HOME under _Double Click the Home Button For:_. Also iPOD Controls are set to ON.

Can't listen to music while playing a game
Why can't I listen to my music while playing a downloaded app game? The game's sounds seem to be the default, can this be changed?
i dont think it works with all apps, but for a lot of them you can do it using this method, if the apps have a 'settings' option, you can usually turn the app sounds/music off, then double click the home button in order to access the music functions.

if an app has background music normally, then replacing it with something of your own is sometimes preferable. and some of us can multi-task, listening to music AND using apps! lol.
