HT1551 trouble setting date and time
my power went out at home. when it came back on, appletv turns on, is connected to home wireless internet BUT can't access shows because the automatic "date and time" will not reset. FRUSTRATING. This occurred once before and I was able to correct it by hitting "restart" under settings. this "fix" isn't working this time.

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
1. Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
2. Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
3. Restart your router.
4. Reset the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings)
5. Restore the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Restore)

My apple TV is having trouble setting date and time
While fast forwarding a purchased movie, ATV froze. Then it wouldn't play any movies. Unplugged it, restarted it, tried to reset the settings, and it keeps getting hung up on date and time. Any ideas?
Thanks! It is having trouble connecting to the network. Make sure location is set correctly, DNS should be on automatic (settings - general - network). If on wifi try Ethernet. Make sure router is up to date. Reboot ATV and router

having trouble setting date and time.
I was able to get my Apple TV working again by downgrading the firmware following the instructions in this message:
https://discussions.apple.com/message/20008613#20008613
In case that message disappears, here's my translation:
1. Connect your Apple TV to your computer via USB. Don't plug in the power cable.
2. Download the older 5.0.2 firmware from Apple here:
5.0.2 (Apple TV 2): AppleTV2,1_5.0.2_9B830_Restore.ipsw
5.0.2 (Apple TV 3): AppleTV3,1_5.0.2_9B830_Restore.ipsw
3. Open iTunes and select the Apple TV. Hold down the option key and press the restore button at the same time.
4. In the dialog that opens select the firmware that you downloaded.
5. The restore process will take a few minutes. Once it's done plug your Apple TV back into your TV. If the date and time message persists just press the menu button to skip it. This got mine working again.
Good luck !!! -
HT1551 Initial set up setting date and time just spins and spins..
Can't seem to get past the set up time and date on my Apple TV...it just spins and spins
Go to the Setting menu> General > Set Date&Time . It should display AUTO. Click on set Date and Time change it to MANUal and adjust the time accordingly.
As for the apple id that should be a different issue, my ATV frequenlty thinks it's in California's time zone and I have no trouble login in and out. Try going to the Apple ID site ifto you can't login there, you may have the wrong password.

HT1551 Stuck on "setting date and time" after a system upgrade
I have tried everything recommended including disconnecting power. Just keeps churning on setting date and time.
I believe this is a connectivity issue.
First, make sure you're connected properly via either wi-fi or ethernet.
When setting up Apple TVs for my school district deployment, we had this issue with units connected via Wi-Fi. We resolved this problem by creating firewall exceptions.
If you're setting up a unit for home, you could try creating exceptions in your router for the Apple TV. Alternatively (to test), you could set your Apple TV as the 'DMZ' device which should expose it sufficiently to see if your networking is getting in the way. -
HT1551 Locked on setting date and time
Lost power to Apple TV. On the reboot, it goes to a screen that says Setting Date and Time...and the wheel keeps grinding with nothing happening. I try to reset, it won't. I cut the power and reboot, and it goes right back to this window...which totally locks up my ATV2, getting frustrated! Can someone help? It's getting like Groundhog's Day over here...same thing over and over...with no solution!
Thanks!Welcome to the Apple Community.
Assuming this is not the first time you have used your Apple TV
You might try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Also try restarting the router.
If the problem persists, try a restore, you may want to try the previous procedures several times before doing this.
If this is a new Apple TV, it may also be that your network router is not allowing access to the timeserver, check that your router allows access over port 123. -
When I try to access Apple TV it says it is setting date and time.... And the wheel just keeps spinning??? It worked fine prior to now.
Were any of the troubleshooting steps in the article from which the question was posted tried?

having problem with the apple tv, because it still setting date and time and dont finish w the activation
That means it is having trouble connecting to the network. Make sure location is set correctly. Go to settings - general - network and ensure DNS is set to automatic. Check that your router is up to date. If on wifi try Ethernet.

My AppleTV used to work fine. Someone messed with my Time Capsule, so I had to have it worked on. Since it was messed up, the AppleTV can't function. I reset it and updated everything. It said "Activating" and "setting date and time". After 3 hours, it is still trying to set the date and time. Now what do I do? Thanks for any help.
As I previously wrote in a former post:
I will first assume you are still setting up your new Apple TV. Is this is the case, use a website like canyouseeme.com to check if port 123 is open. If it is not, this is your issue of your Apple TV not being able to connect to the timeserver. Try contacting your Internet Service Provider for help with opening this port.
Otherwise, try hard resetting your Apple TV by disconnecting all power for 30 seconds. If the problem still persists, you may try hard resetting your router by also unplugging all power for 30 seconds.
Hope this worked out well for you. If you are having further troubles you can always connect it to iTunes using a micro-usb and restore it. Lastly, the Genius Bar will be more than happy to fix the problem for you if you'd like to make a reservation for your local Apple Store. -
Lost config and cant set date and time
lost config and cant set date and time apple tv less than month old
Hello there, Terriiris.
I had a similar issue and what worked for me was power cycling my wireless network and the Apple TV. However, if the issue persists, here are a couple articles that will walk you through troubleshooting this issue.
Apple TV: Basic troubleshooting
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1551
Apple TV: Troubleshooting wireless connections
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1595
If the steps in the article above do not resolve the issue, then a restore may be needed.
