When running diagnostics, iTunes doesn't detect an optical drive at all.  What do I do next?

I think, no... I know you failed to provide complete details of everything that had been attempted.
Then you responded with a smart donkey comment.
Best of luck finding a resolution.

Hi everyone! I tried to install the new iOs 7 on my iphone 4, but it wasn't completed (showing error 4005). Now, my iphone is stuck on the itunes' logo with the usb cord, and I can't use my phone. And itunes doesn't detect my iphone when I connect it on my computer, so I can't put it in recovery mode or someting like that... What can I do?? I tried everything they tell me to do in the apple support but nothing seems to work. Thank you!

    No problem, glad to help!
Update: my PC USB hub was connected to a USB 3 port, I connected the 30 pin cable directly to my PC, And the restore worked just fine. Restored phone from iCloud backup and seems to be working fine.

  • Latest version of Itunes doesn't detect my internet connection.

Itunes doesn't detect/see my internet connection. I reloaded it twice, When in Itunes, I can't download anything from the Itunes site. No tutorials,no software updates, nada! I tried it in the previous version of the Itunes setup too. Same problem.
I have an HP laptop, Vista Home premium (works fine anywhere else), Nortons 36O (disabled), ATT DSL
I am running Firefox too, and tried to connect with Internet Explorer 9.xx, didn't work either. Some of the messages indicate that the Proxy Server info is missing/incorrect as configured. This is out of my league. I don't have enough background to TS this issue myself.
Seems like a sporatic, but common problem with other users as well. I need Itunes to run, correctly so that I can fix my Iphone. The limited diagnostics found in Itunes tells me that the phone is ok and communicates with the test software. But I can't get any deeper than that.
    Thank you for your help.

I think you're missing the point. If you rip or purchase music at 128k, 256k, 320k etc. then there is no benefit to be had converting it to Apple Lossless. The files will get bigger but the data thrown away to make the previous lossy version cannot be reclaimed. If, on the other hand, you routinely rip in .wav or .aiff then you should end up with smaller files of the same quality which is indeed worth the effort.

  • After 4.3.4 update the ipPad is in Recovery mode and iTunes doesn't detect the device

    Hello,
brand new Win7 installation, restored iTunes folder and installed latest 10.4. iTunes64 bit.
Hooked up both my iPad and iPhone4
    Detected new firmware 4.3.4
and bang, both devices are now stuck into recovery mode.
No matter I set the iPad/iPhone into Recovery or DFU mode, iTunes will not detect any device for recovery.
    Uninstall/Install iTunes => no change
The driver will display that the units is detected and in DFU or Recovery mode, but iTunes doesn't detect the device.
Tried TinyUmbrella etc but no fix
    Any other hint?
    Best Regards
    Uwe

Place the device in DFU mode (google it) then restore.

  • IPod touch 3g stuck in recovery mode, but iTunes doesn't detect it.

I tried several times to update the software on my ipod, but each time was interrupted by my computer going to sleep (pc, Windows 7).  Now my ipod is stuck in recovery mode, and itunes doesn't detect it at all.  The ipod also won't turn off.  I have tried all the troubleshooting here:  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538 and here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808?viewlocale=en_US.  Please, does anyone else have any ideas?  TIA

Thanks, I'll try it out, and update here.  It might take a little while for the battery to drain without being used.

  • How do I add music from my CD collection to iTunes if my Apple computer doesn't have an optical drive?

How do I add music from my CD collection to iTunes if my Apple computer doesn't have an optical drive to take the music from the CD's to my iTunes library?

    1) Use a different computer which has an optical drive, then transfer the media files to the other computer.
    2) Buy an external optical drive for your computer.

  • Mac doesn't detect the hard drive

Hello, my Powerbook doesn't detect the Hard Drive (tryied restarting, tryied Disk Utility from DVDs)... Yesterday and some days before I heard some clicking noises coming from the PB.
I'm still under Apple Care coverage, I think they'll remplace it for me (won't they?), but the most important thing: does anyone knows if the data on the hard drive can be restored??... And if Apple Care will try to restore it or it will just remplace the Hard Drive?... do I have any other option?
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   1.5Ghz 512MB 80GB Superdrive

Here's some answers. Everyone else here chime in if I'm wrong!
Apple Care will replace the drive (unless they determine you killed it by intentionally abusing the PB itself, very unlikely).
Apple Care will not transfer any data they find to a new drive, just replace it and very likely load a default Software Configuration.
Here are some options. In both cases, be READY to start copying data the INSTANT the drive is recognized. If it comes up at all...
    - Restart the PB in Target Disk Mode by holding down the "T" key during the bootup process. If you can get the PB to load as a Target Disk, you can plug it into another Mac and copy off your files (or clone it if you want to get more advanced)
    - Have a local shop remove the hard drive and replace it with a new one. Reload the default software yourself, then put the original malfunctioning drive into an external firewire/USB case to see if it's still salvageable.
Yeah, clicking noises from a hard drive are never good. I've had a couple drives go bad on me, and was lucky enough to have time to backup real quick - biting nails all the way. Let us know how you're doing with the repair,

  • I own PSE 7 on disc. The laptop it was loaded on died. My new laptop doesn't have an optical drive so I downloaded PSE 7 from the Adobe site. It downloaded fine but I cannot start using it until I enter a S/N. The S/N on the disc box doesn't work.

Those links weren't particularly helpful to me. They convinced me to install the drivers for my USB 2.0 card, but that didn't make a difference. Still no OS X without a PRAM reset if I've dared to venture into OS 9.
It's always been my understanding that an unblessed System Folder will not be selectable in OS 9's Startup Disk control panel. My folders are blessed and healthy. Of course I'm running 9.2.2, as stated in my first message. I also frequently verify and repair my disks and permissions.
I did a verbose startup of OS X, and noticed something funny about "ATY...too old." Perhaps this problem is related? I ventured into my system.log file and there it was, repeated over and over, everytime I've booted this computer:
    Aug 8 18:30:24 localhost kernel: From path: "/pci/@d/pci-ata@1/ata-4@0/disk@0:10,\mach_kernel", Waiting on <dict ID="0"><key>IOPathMatch</key><string ID="1">IODeviceTree:/pci/@d/pci-ata@1/ata-4@0/@0:10</string></dict>
Aug 8 18:30:35 localhost kernel: ROM ndrv for ATY,Rage128y is too old (0xb3383430)
Aug 8 18:30:41 localhost init: kernel security level changed from 0 to 1
Anyone know how to interpret that? Is it related to my problem? I googled it, and all I found was a web board of people arguing over whether the Apple installed stock ATI Rage video card that came in the G3's is appropriate for Panther. The Ye's have it as far as I'm concerned...as long as I leave OS 9 alone, my video is fine on this computer!

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged after the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
For example, if the problem is a slow startup taking three minutes, post the messages timestamped within three minutes after the boot time, not before. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the beginning of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • I purchased a new computer and it doesn't have an optical drive.

I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 13 7000 series and it doesn't have an optical drive. So I bought an external one and I went through the process to downloading it and putting in my serial number but when it was downloading it only got to 5% before it told me that I needed to insert the disc. How can I download the product if it tells me that I need to insert it when I already have it inserted? Please help me.

When you boot the new machine for the first time, you'll be prompted to import your data from a Time Machine backup.
