  • Rental Movie Download Speed Changed from 25 minutes to 10 hours

Two days ago I download two rental movies and each took about 25 minutes. Today I tried to download another rental movie and it is taking forever. If it continues at this speed, it will take about 10 days to download. My ISP is fine, I have checked my download speed and its 6.6MBps and I have not installed anything new on my PC. Please help.

I've had a few like that myself.
    1. Right click on the download and chose 'Delete'. This is not ideal.
    2. Get Apple tech support on live chat and have them 'nuke' it.
That should also get you back your money.

  • HT1577 iTunes download speeds

I have 20mb/sec download service, and can download from 'anywhere' at that speed, except iTunes.  iTunes runs about 1mb/sec.  Are the iTunes servers that slow?

Also experiencing slow iTunes download tonight - have not had this issue previously.
I am also staring at a "Waiting..." badge for an iPad app to update, so perhaps there are performance issues ith AppStore also.
My Internet speed/connection is great ATM, except for iTunes/AppStore.
    I'm located in Texas fwiw.

  • V e e e r r y   S l o o o o w  Movie Rental Download Speeds

My setup: In my home office is a cable modem connected to my locally owned and operated ISP's coax feed. It's a city operated fiber network (Ashland Fiber Network), not a ComCast/Charter/Verizon conglomerate. The modem is connected to a Time Capsule (500 MB) via ethernet. Also connected to the Time Caspsule via Ethernet is a 2.4 GHz 24" iMac. The Apple TV is in my living room about 30' away through one wood-frame wall.
I get consistent >8 Mb/sec download speeds from Speedtest.net both on my office (Ethernet) iMac and on my MacBook via 802.11g while sitting next to the Apple TV in my living room. The Apple TV shows 5 bars on its signal strength meter, and is running the latest (2.02) software. I have the Airport Utility setup to run 802.11n (802.11b/g compatible) so that it'll work with both the Apple TV and my 802.11g MacBook. There are no 2.4 GHz wireless phones in my house, and no other WiFi devices connected. There are several other WiFi networks within range in my neighborhood, but I use WPA2 Personal security to isolate my network.
My problem: I have tried only 1 SD movie download. but it took 37 minutes to reach "Ready to Play," and then choked after playing for 56 minutes. So rather than wait for more of the movie to download, I went to bed and watched the rest of it the next day. I've rented 2 HD movies, the first download notice told me that it would take 13 hours to be ready to play, and the next said 11 hours. Both times I just went to bed and watched the movie the next day.
Trailers generally take anywhere from 2-5 mins. to begin playing, and they almost always choke after about a minute and have to download more to continue playing. They play much faster on my iMac when downloaded from Apple's Quicktime site, though I can't be sure if different servers are involved there.
This scenario does not jibe at all with what Apple tells me I should expect from the Apple TV, nor with what I read about here on the Apple Discussion boards.
Things I've tried: 1) Changing the WiFi channel from Auto to a discrete channel--I've tried four different channels now. 2) Switching to 802.11n only--both at 2.4 GHz and at 5 Ghz. 3) Unplugging and removing the batteries from my 5.8 GHz wireless phones. 4) Moving the Apple TV a 6' HDMI cable's length away from the TV and sound system in my living room. 4) Resetting everything several times, even once back to 2.0 before reinstalling 2.02. 5) I even unplugged the microwave in the kitchen. About the only obvious thing I haven't yet tried is stringing an ethernet cable from my Time Capsule to the Apple TV because I don't have one that long and would rather not strip down my entire setup just to test that. But it looks like I'm going to have to.
I've had four conversations with Apple tech support, the last one after being bumped up to level 2 support. They had me do (among other things) a 100-ping test using Network Utility between the my iMac and the Apple TV--no dropped packets and the network speed was, according to them, well within spec. When I told them all the other stuff I've tried, they had no suggestion other than: "Something is interfering with your signal."
I took the Apple TV to my local Apple Authorized Dealer (the nearest Apple Store is 300 miles away). It checked out fine and ran great on their network. I got to try downloading a few trailers there and they ran almost instantaneously. Now, they informed me that their network runs at ~15 Mb/sec, but they also have about 30 computers hooked up to it.
Anyway, I read here that almost all of you are seeing much faster download speeds on your Apple TVs, even those of you with DSL. And it seems pretty clear that I'm experiencing some sort of interference here, but can't seem to locate the source. So, my question is: What other possible sources of interference might I be getting, and how might I go about locating them?

How does downloading via your iMac respond?
I haven't tried downloading a movie from iTunes to see if there's a substantial difference, and you can't rent HD movies from iTunes, only SD. Trailers download faster, but there's no telling if they're coming from the same servers as Apple TV's trailers (nor if iTunes movies are, for that matter).
I'm quick to blame the time capsule and time machine. Similar to your problems with AppleTV, I've never had time machine work properly. All it does is suck up all my resources while taking days to do anything.
Unlike some, I've had zero setup or operating problems with my Time Capsule. Works like a charm and doesn't seem to slow anything down on my iMac as far as I can tell.

  • How many thousands of Apple TV users have to scream their complaints before Apple will respond to the fury over the impossibly slow download speeds of movies bought through iTunes??????

How many thousands of Apple TV users have to scream their complaints before Apple will respond to the fury over the impossibly slow download speeds of movies bought through iTunes?

As jules says, your rate (currently at least) may be slow.
If it used to be good I wonder is your ISP is slowing ('throttling') your speed after you've used so many GB of a quota each day or month - check what they think you should be getting as a download speed.
While Apple's servers do occasionally play up, it's generally the ISP being slow not Apple.
If you're using Google's DNS servers that has caused issues for some.
Recommended speeds for near instant playback:
    SD         2.5Mbps
    720p      6 Mbps
    1080p    8 Mbps
Is your speed test from somewhere like speedtest.net?
It might be helpful to post Mbps to ensure we/you are not confusing speeds by using different units to those measured.

  • ITunes movie downloads take several hours with a 2.8 m/s download speed. Why?

My movie downloads from itunes take up to 3 hours even with a 2.8 m/s DSL internet connection. Any suggestions as to why?

This is likely an isse on your network. What is your connection speed? (www.speedtest.net)
    8bmps required for 1080P, 6mbps for 720p, 3mbps for SD
Check for interference (www.istumbler or netstumbler)
Check firewall, router (make sure it's up to date, location, try changing channels)

  • What Download Speed Do I Need to View HD Movies?

What download speed do I need to view HD movies on Apple TV?

The first thing to check would be your internet download speed, you can do this at www.speedtest.net.
1080p HD movies require a recommended speed of 8 Mbps, 720p HD movies require a recommended speed of 6 Mbps, while SD movies require a recommended speed of 2.5 Mbps.

  • Upload and download speed is horrible.  it takes hours to download a movie from iTunes.

upload and download speed is horrible.  it takes hours to download a movie from iTunes.

VangieChuck the problem is definitely not iTunes it is your ISP download provision. Either your ISP needs to make a service call and solve your bandwidth issues or you need a better service, granted it all depends where in the world you are located. In Kappy's and my neck of the woods we are use to 5 - 250 Mbps download rates with an average of about 25 mbps for most city dewellers. Upload will vary depending on your service.

  • What has happened to download speed for any video....tv, movies

Since about 2 days ago, the download speed for purchased video has become ridiculous. A 30 minute tv show takes MORE than 30 minutes to download......it used to take about 3 minutes...or less. I rented TRON yesterday and it took over 3 hours to download......it used to take 10-15 minutes. This happens on both my 2 Macs and 1 Windows machines. My Internet connections report a solid 20MB down and 1.5 up.....on every machine and device I have. It is NOT a problem in my home system or machines. All other downloads are fine.
Something is seriously wrong with Apple's iTunes websites. I am certain that there is nothing wrong locally......no machines have changed.....and they all experience this abysmally slow service.
Netflix streams full HD fine on all machines, by the way. I wouldn't even begin to download an HD movie from iTunes until someone at Apple figures out why their service suddenly is not useable.

My box has similar issues with Multiplex D (which Film 4 and 4 Music are on).  My TV is absolutely fine but my Vision box is less happy.  I have the channels listed but no picture.  I keep meaning to replace my aerial leads but haven't got round to it.  Strange thing though is that my aerial goes to my vision box which then goes to my TV so it makes no sense as I would expect the reception to be the same or worse on the TV as with the Vison box.

  • HT1577 why is this iTunes movie downloading taking over 3 hours already?

-- and saying 25 MORE hours until download is complete? Is there a way to speed up the process? Is it my laptop that is the problem? We have broadband so that shouldn't be the problem. Thank you!

    This is ridiculous...
I have BT Infinity 2 Fibre Optic Broadband with over 40Mbs download speed,
I have closed all internet accessing applications ie. Safari, Mail
and yet over 3 hours to download a single movie.
Come on Apple what's going on? Are you a victim of your own success?

  • Slow download speed on movies

For some reason my download speed on everything else is good... at least for my area.. but Itunes is giving me a download time on a movie at aprox 60 hours+ !!!.  When I do speed test my connection speed is sitting at 1-1.5 Mbps... and when I look at the expected download time for a regular 2 hour movie I should be expecting a download time of 2 hours.  Is there something i can change in the settings with Itunes?  Can I log into itunes using a 3rd party app like speed download to download my purchases?

aha... I found a solution for us... on one of the other discussions.  Go to your system preferences and click on the network.  Highlight the DNS server(s) and clear them.  If your using a apple router don't clear the DNS on your computer but clear them on your router set up.  Apply the changes and your download speed on Itunes should match the network speed that you have.  After I made the changes to my router my movie download went from 60 hours to 5 .

  • HT1577 Is there a way I can make my movies download faster in itunes?

Have closed all other applications and genius is off. Everything else downloads really fast but the movies are killing me - up to about 3 hours and counting. Then it's slow to put on my ipod. Have tried HD and SD, no difference whatsoever. Help!
I have previously downloaded a movie and put it on my ipod within about 30 mins but for the past month or two itunes movie downloads are REALLY slow. I've read other forums that say similar but no one has got a solution yet. I thought I'd put it out there again - does anyone know what it is?
I am using a brand new imac with tonnes of memory, broadband internet is obv the likely cause but EVERYTHING else is fast, only itunes movies are slow. Is there a setting that's been changed, perhaps in one of the software updates?
I'm a new mac user so go easy on the tech advise please, I'm still in windows mode...
    Cheers

    Hi emburg,
I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with the speed of your movie downloads.
It would be helpful to know what your download speed currently is.
The link below will provide a few troubleshooting steps that you can try improve the download speed:
iTunes: How to resume interrupted iTunes Store downloads
...You can also try the following steps to troubleshoot the download issue.
    Restart your computer or device.
Check for updates for your Mac or PC and install any software updates. Also, check for and install updates for any security software you may have (anti-virus, anti-malware, firewall, and so on).
If using Wi-Fi for Internet access, try using a different Wi-Fi network when downloading. If you are connecting to a home network, try restarting your Wi-Fi router. Also, check for and install any firmware updates for your Wi-Fi router. (Refer the manufacturer's website for your router to get information on updating its firmware).
If you are on a computer, try using an ethernet cable for wired Internet access instead of using Wi-Fi.
    Resuming downloads from a computer
    Open iTunes.
Choose Store > Check for Available Downloads.
Enter your account name and password.
    Click the "Check Downloads" button.
Click the Resume or Resume All button, or the resume arrow  to resume the download.
I hope this information helps ....
    Have a great day!

  • TS1717 The download speed for movies is terribly slow.  It took hours to download.  Any suggestions?

Any suggestions for improving download speeds on movies. It took hours to download my first purchase.  I've used Amazon and Netflix for renting movies and had reasonable download speeds.

    Hi Travelling fool 101,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it sounds like you were able to update the iPad but were eventually able to. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.
Resolve issues with an over-the-air iOS update - Apple Support
Download takes a long time, or you can't reach update server
iOS updates require a persistent Internet connection, and the time it takes to download the update will vary according to the size of the update and your Internet speed. You can use your device normally while downloading the iOS update, and iOS will notify you when you can install the update. To improve the speed of the download, avoid downloading other content.
    Cheers,
    Mario
