HT1589 increase size of itunes library

I cannot sync my IPad.  I get an error saying that I'm over capacity on my ITunes library.  How do I increase it?

Apps: Delete any apps that you don't use very often.
Videos: Delete videos that you don't watch
Music: Either convert them to AAC 128kbps (reduces memory size per song which is time consuming) OR delete songs that you don't want.
How do I get rid of "other" storage
This link will also help to get rid of the "other" info.

  • Maximum size of iTunes library

Recently purchased WD 3TB External HD for use as iTunes library. Now that my library has reached 2.5TB on the 3TB HD, I receive messages from itunes that there is no more room and cannot add any additional files. Finder still shows 404GB available.  Is there a maximum HD size or number of files that itunes can handle?  I have two separate itunes library hard drives, one for iphone and one for apple TV.  Also, as I switch between hard drives, does the iTunes Media folder location in advanced setting have anything to do with my problem?

As much RAM as your OS can use. 3 GB in the case of 32 bit (and this usually means 4 GB as it is best to have matching modules of RAM, so 2 x 2 GB RAM modules on most machines). 8 GB or more on 64 bit OS's like OSX or WIndows 7. The quickest way to find out how much can go in your machine is to visit Crucial and download their tool. This will make recommendations based on your system.

  • Size of iTunes library question

When I am in iTunes and select library, it give me the total number of songs and the gigabytes (in my case assume around 9500 tracks and 43G). However, when I get info on the iTunes folder in my music folder and get info it shows 100G. Is this right? I am trying to back up my music and it appears it is taking up 100G on my LaCie drive.

What is shown in iTunes is the total for what has actually been added to the iTunes library. What is shown in the folder is what is actually in the folder and not everything in the folder has to also be in the iTunes library.
For example, you can delete songs from the iTunes library but answer NO when it asks you if you want to move the files to the trash/recycle also. If you say no, then the files stay on the hard drive in the folder but are no longer in the iTunes library.
So to answer your question, yes, it is completely possible to have the iTunes library be one size and the iTunes folder to be a completely different size. They are not synchronized together.

  • Is there a maximum size for iTunes library

Is there a maximum size for the iTunes libary for windows 7?

Not as far as I know.
My Music Library has 17080 songs (108.38 GB) in it, plus films, Podcasts and a few iTunes U programmes, and I am aware of others using this forum who have larger libraries than I do.

  • The status bar is checked in view still unable to determine the size of itunes library.

The Status Bar in checked in view and I am still unable to determine the size of library in Itunes.  Songs are not numbered.

The size of your text is set to 100% in your body elements css, this means that for Safari you will get a default font size of 16px, (providing you have not changed the browsers default settings).
Change the body element font-size to 12px in the css and see what happens.

I've run out of helpful stars to hand out to all of you nice people. Thank you so much, and as the post quoted here also demonstrates, there are 'overrides' in CSS. It struck me this morning as I have been thinking about this, the very first thing to introduction to CSS is that the meaning of Cascading Style Sheets is that there is an order of priority in command, and the troops closest to the front lines get the final say. I would think that the statement in the document would be the final word, but apparently it's the CSS sheet that takes priority in this case.
I think my thinking has been in reverse on this rule, not unusual for me, but now I need to re-educate myself thanks to this problem.

  • HT1589 Create a New Itunes Library

When I choose to create a new library (by holdin down the option key when opening the program) am I creating only an index, or will Itunes automatically start copying the music files themselves to my Mac hardrive? My music file are large, my mac hard drive small. I keep the files on an external hard drive.
    Thanks,
    Charles

When you create a new empty library iTunes shouldn't automatically import any content, although if you are signed into an iTunes account it may display links to stream or download your purchases from iTunes in the cloud. Check your options under iTunes (Edit on a PC) > Preferences > Advanced for Keep... & Copy... and the media folder to make sure they are what you want.

  • Memory on iTunes library

how do i increase memory of itunes library on my mac desktop?

    Hi,
You can't. Memory is dictated by the amount of ram you have on your computer.
You should consider upgrading your ram if your computer permits it.

  • I just updated my iTunes and I do not like the newer version.....can I go back to the earlier version??  This new version does not have the iTunes DJ nor does is show at the bottom as in the earlier version how many songs and the size of my library.

To do this in iMovie 11. use the SHARE menu. Share your project using the Share menu and choose Export Using QuickTime.
In the Dialog box that comes up, choose Sound to AIFF, or one of the other sound options. This will create a file that you can drag into iTubes.

  • ITunes Library File Size Limit?

I've been struggling to get my AppleTV to work as advertised since I bought it on the day it was originally released. I'm a big music fan and wanted to use it mostly as a music device. My iTunes library is huge. I have my entire CD collection ripped in lossless, as well as AAC for my iPod. I also have lots of other music, some DTS audio files, etc... and very detailed organization.
At any rate, I could always get the AppleTV to work if I just set it up to sync and play the files locally, but never to properly stream in a manner that's useable. And any syncing would take FOREVER. I'm on an N network, and I was getting speeds around 100KB/second. And then after it finally would get setup, I would often get pauses up to a minute where the AppleTV would freeze between menus while "thinking". It would take me 5 minutes just to navigate to a song and start playing it.
I tried all sorts of troubleshooting. Test libraries always worked fine. I've rebuilt my iTunes library from scratch, suspecting a corrupt library file, even though there was no other evidence to support this theory. No dice.
I'm finally giving up, and deciding that AppleTV has a limit to how large an iTunes library file it can handle. My iTunes library file is 160MB. Just the library file. You figure it's only got 256MB of RAM, and it's no wonder it can't handle it. I'm not sure how large the AppleTV OS is, but I suspect with a library file that large that the ATV has to do lots of going back to the HD to retrieve information it just doesn't have enough room for in RAM.
So my new strategy is to set up a secondary iTunes library just for my AppleTV that contains just music I want to sync, and any video I may want to stream. If I want to stream video, I'll launch this new library. If I want to listen to music without my computer on, the AppleTV will have a selection on it from this new library. If I want to stream my huge library, well, now I can use my iPhone as a remote to control my large iTunes library, and use the AppleTV with airtunes feature. And this works wonderfully, 100% responsive with no "waiting".
At any rate, I'm very disappointed that I couldn't get the AppleTV to work as advertised. I wish Apple would specify that there's a limit to how large a library it can handle. I've been screwing around with this for a long time and am essentially giving up, although the iPhone remote / airtunes solution works well for me.
Maybe down the road they'll come out with a new hardware revision with more RAM that can handle things better.

Well, I was hoping I could send you a private message, Greg Neil, because I don't know if you'll ever see this message. Regardless, your iTunes library is NOT the problem no matter what others have told you. 7000 files it's child's play. My iTunes library currently has 14,639 music files in it and 129 Movies ripped at 3000kbps. The library size is NOT the problem. If your network is slow then that will be what is hurting you. The second fastest behind 'n' (i always forget this bit of trivia) should be fast enough for streaming music and most movies. I know that because I've done it. Having said that, go out and buy a bit of ethernet cable and hook it directly into your machine and see if you can stream that way. If you can't then you need to take back your aTV because, in that case, it's the problem. If your network is of adequate speed per what I and the previous poster have mentioned and it still won't stream at all wirelessly then TAKE IT BACK. Mine has streamed fine in the past however, I eventually just hardwired it via ethernet to prevent any drops ever. Hope this helps. I just wanted you to know that going to that amount of trouble to make it work should not have been necessary, and btw, aTV running all your favorite music to your home stereo is worth the price of the device itself. You shouldn't have to suffer.
    All the best,
    A fellow music lover

Before you reinstall the Apple software, also remove iCloud vi Control Panel Remove programs. The reinstall the Apple programs

  • I am contemplating replacing my old Ipod with a 8gb touch which supposedly holds up to 1760 songs. In my ITunes library the average size of a 12 song album is 300mb which means I can get 27 albums x 12 songs is 324 songs. Where am I going wrong here?

There is about 6.9  GBs of free space on an 8 GB Touch for data storage. That translates to roughly 23 of your average albums.
Holds up to 1760 songs is based on the size of an average track which is about 3 to 4 MBs, whereas your albums have tracks averaging more like 25 MBs per track. I sort of doubt your average album holds what would be about 5 hours.

I used scripting brigde to add a movie that has size bigger than 5GB, exactly after two minutes iTunes return a failed, but the processing of the file is actually added to iTunes Library successfully. The copying take more than 5 minutes to complete. Why the iTunes Scripting Brigde returned failed when it is actually success? It occurred exactly 2 minutes after submit the request to Scripting Brigde. Is this 2 minutes related to the Apple Event time out? if it does, how do I get around this problem? thx

I can tell you that this is some of the absolutely worst customer service I have ever dealt with. I found out from a store employee that when they are really busy with calls, they have third party companies taking overflow calls. One of those companies is Xerox. What can a Xerox call center rep possibly be able to authorize on a Verizon account?  I'm Sure there is a ton of misinformation out there due to this. They don't note the accounts properly or so everyone can see them. I have been transferred before and have asked if they work for Verizon or a third party also and was refused an answer so, apparently they aren't required to disclose that information. I spent a long time in the store on my last visit and it's not just customers that get the runaround. It happens to the store employees as well and it's beyond frustrating.

  • How do you see iTunes library size

need to find out how many GB my iTunes music file is on iTunes.

There is no “iTunes music file”.
There is an iTunes folder located in /Music/.
Select it in a Finder window and right click - Get info.
As ed suggested, use the Status bar.
Note that this only shows the size of the selected item (Music, Movies, TV, etc.) it does not show the size of the entire iTunes folder (which contains everything including the iTune library files, artwork folder and some other stuff.

  • How do you see the size of your library now in iTunes 11?

On iTunes 10 when you were looking at your song list, at the bottom everyone has seen the small informative text that tells you how many days it would take to listen to the songs that you currently have on the screen. Where is that information now??
How do you see the size of your library, or is there an option in iTunes 11 that will allow you to enable a way to see that text again at the bottom of your screen?

In the menu bar, open "view", and click "show status bar"
(Or the shortcut to toggle it is CTRL + / )
