HT1635 how should i will upgrade my macbook'13inch (late 2008)

HI, i want to upgrade my Macbook 13inch late2009.
so, how should i will upgrade the ram, nvida graphics and GHS
please guide meh.
Thank you

You can upgrade the RAM and the disk but not the NVIDIA graphics processor.  I don’t know what a GHS is.
On my 2009 MacBook I upgraded the memory and disk and it did wonders for the boot time and responsiveness.  I found my $200 investment was well worth the money.
I expect you have 2 GB of memory so an 8 GB memory upgrade (~$100) will make a big difference.  You can also upgrade the disk to a small SSD or large hybrid SSHD for around $80 to $260.  Larger SSDs cost more.  Your choice.  The hybrid Seagate SSHD comes with an 8 GB SSD cache that provides SSD-like performance.  My storage needs were minimal so I opted for a 120 GB SSD but if I had needed 500 GB to 1 TB of capacity I would probably have chosen the SSHD.
Order the parts from OWC (macsales.com) or Crucial.com.  They provide Mac-tested and warranted parts with excellent service.
First confirm which model MacBook you have.  About this Mac > More Info…  Note the season and year.  Then click on System Report and note the Model Identifier.  For example, if it is a Late 2009 model it would be a MacBook 6,1.  A late 2008 model (non-aluminum) would be a 4,1.
If it is a Late 2009 MacBook 6,1 it can hold up to 8 GB of RAM.  Apple originally supported 4 GB of RAM but OWC has tested and supports 8 GB.
If it is a Late 2008 MacBook 4,1 it can hold up to 6 GB of RAM.  Apple originally supported 4 GB of RAM but OWC has tested and supports 6 GB.
In these instances OWC supports larger RAM than Crucial so I would buy it form OWC.  8 GB for the 6,1 would cost you $105.  6 GB for the 4,1 would cost $125.
The disk-bus speed for the Late 2009 MacBook is 3 Gbps, which is good for supporting SSDs and SSHDs.  Here are some example SSDs.  If your capacity needs are modest you may want to chose an SSD.  If you want the combination of 1 TB high capacity and SSD-like speed, choose the SSHD.
http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=MacBook%20(13-inch%2C%20Late%2 02009)
Crucial M500 120 GB: $81
Crucial M500 240 GB: $138
Crucial M500 480 GB: $260
http://www.crucial.com/store/modelpart.aspx?model=MacBook%20(13-inch,%20Late%202 009)&imodule=ST1000LM014
Seagate 1 TB SSHD: $105
For a $5 toolkit with the necessary screwdrivers I recommend http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/TOOLKITMHD/
For an enclosure to transfer the data Google “USB 3.0 enclosure”
The Crucial and OWC sites have tutorials on installing the memory and disks.
If you don’t want to do the upgrade yourself take it to an Apple Authorized Service Provider https://locate.apple.com/country.  An Apple store will not install non-Apple parts.

    I have a macbook 13inch 2008 2.0gz and I'm trying to upgarde from os x 10.5.8 to 10.6 how can I?

You have to purchase it. If you call the online Apple Store, they may still have copies of Snow Leopard available though it's no longer listed on the web site. If they no longer have it available, you'll need to look to private sellers, and the prices are rising quickly. If you buy from a private seller, make sure you get the retail disk set (white label with a picture of a Snow Leopard), not the system disks from another model of Mac (grey label).
    Regards.
Forum Tip: Since you're new here, you've probably not discovered the Search feature available on every Communities page, but next time, it might save you time (and everyone else from having to answer the same question multiple times) if you search a couple of ways for a topic, both in the relevant forums and in the Apple Knowledge Base, before you post a question.

  • How to restore Firmware on New MacBook Pro late 2008?

Hello, when I migrated contents from my old MBP to the New MBP it also transferred some of the utility software, and I accidentally activated FanControl and that seemed to permanently altered the fan setting of the new MBP.
How can I reset the firmware of the new MBP, so I can reset the fan temp/speed setting to default? Deleting FanControl utility does not seem to work.
A quick call to Apple support told me to just re-install the OS, and that sets everything back to the factory state, including the fan speed. Is this true?
I'm looking for the "Firmware Restoration CD" in the apple site but there is nothing newer after April. I suppose this 1.7 version will not work on ours.

    Hi volume244;
If Apple told you to reinstall to reset, why do you think we would know better then they do?
Personally, if it were mine I would take it back to Apple and ask them to fix it.

  • Macbook pro late 2008 hardware upgrade

    Hi,
I’m planning to do upgrade my macbook pro late 2008 (2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4 GB DDR3 1067 MHz / NVIDIA GeForce 9400M / 320.07 GB Hitachi and Superdrive).
    I would like to:
Upgrade memory from 4 to 8 GB via e.g. two PC3-8500 4GB RAM Chip iFixit https://www.ifixit.com/Store/Mac/PC3-8500-4-GB-RAM-Chip/IF111-036-1
Replace the Superdrive by either e.g. :
SSD 256 GB Solid State Drive
    https://www.ifixit.com/Store/Mac/256-GB-Solid-State-Drive/IF107-124-2
    or SSD or 512 GB
    https://www.ifixit.com/Store/Mac/512-GB-Solid-State-Drive/IF107-125-2
or OWC DIY Bundle: OWC Data Doubler Kit + 6G 480GB OWC SSD - http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/DDMBS6E480/
And use the Superdrive externally via a case
    http://www.macway.com/fr/searches?keywords=Storeva+slim+burner&aff_i=25904&t_edi t=affinitaire_high_tech&aff_v=&aff_a=
Do you think the investment is worthwhile and if so are there according to your experience better solutions. (faster SSD, faster memory ram or kits specially designed).
What would be better to replace the SuperDrive by the SSD or to replace the HD by the SSD and the SuperDrive by the HD.
I have read that on many of the 2008/9 MacBook Pro models, if you put a SATA III drive in it will slow down to 1.5Gb/s. Can you confirm my 2008 can't take advantage of the very fastest SSDs and that it’s better to use a SATA II drive (like the OWC Electra 3G).
    Thank you for your help.

    Hi again OGELTHORPE,
You're right my MBP is a 5.1 model.
Thank you, I take good note for the memory.
If I understand correctly your answer, there will be no performance difference if I put the SSD in place of the SuperDrive or of the HD.
Yes I understand your opinion for the cost of SSD. But I am writing from Europe (Belgium) and here MBP are more expensive (+/- 18%) than in your beautiful country. And as I mostly use my Mac for photo editing and surfing I think the memory and SSD will give him a new youth.
If someone has already added an SSD to a 5.1 model I'm interested in any information about the SSD model and where he installed it.
    Thanks.

  • My macbook pro late 2008 randomly freeze

Hi I recently upgrade my macbook pro Late 2008 by adding a 250 go Crucial SSD drive in the main harddrive spot. I also put a 1 To HDD in the place of the super drive.
Since then, my macbook randomly freeze. I can't see any link to any specific usage. It just happen for no reasons. I had to reboot by holding the power button.
    Thanks for your help!

Hi r.w.p & welcome to the forums...
Some or all of the following may be necessary - try in this order:
    1. Try resetting your PRAM/NVRAM ( http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379?viewlocale=en_US ). If everything isn't fixed, then continue to follow the steps here including resetting your SMC ( http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411 ) if necessary.
    2. Use Font Book to eliminate all bad and duplicate fonts.
    3. Reinstall (or install for the first time) the .6.1 and .6.2 updates by downloading and installing the combo updater ( http://support.apple.com/kb/DL959 ).
    4. Reinstall 10.6 using your Snow Leopard install DVD by installing Snow over Snow using the upgrade method. Test your system after returning to 10.6. If is good there, then you may not want to re-install the.6.1 & .6.2 updates - if you do, then use the combo updater again ( http://support.apple.com/kb/DL959 ).
Still no joy, take it to an Apple Store and ask staff there for assistance.

  • Flashing Question mark: New hard drive not working Macbook Pro late 2008

After following several peoples advice on this forum I decided to upgrade my Macbook Pro late 2008 with a Seagate (1TB) Solid State Hybrid Drive 2.5 inch.
    Heres the device.
    http://www.morecomputers.com/spec.aspx?pn=ST1000LM014
After creating a mountable boot on a External hard drive with Mavericks install I removed the current hard drive and replaced with the new seagate drive. However it didn't seem to recognize the external hard drive (it is quite old but works perfectly) and went to a flashing grey question mark screen and wouldnt do anything else. Ive tried holding down command-r and option-r but I get nothing. Its just the same flashing question mark. I have done this several times and the same result.
I put the old drive back in and it works fine.
I am trying to work out is the problem with the mountable external hard drive OR is it the hard drive is not compatible with my computer?
    Appreciate your help
    Gary

Sorry I think you may be confused.
I am trying to install the new Seagate hard drive to my mac (not as an external hard drive).
I replace the macbook pro hard drive with the seagate drive:
    http://www.morecomputers.com/spec.aspx?pn=ST1000LM014
I then started up the machine with a usb external hard drive with a boot copy of mavericks on it. However, it just displayed a flashing question mark and wouldnt start booting the osx.
I am trying to work out is the problem with the mountable external hard drive OR is it the hard drive is not compatible with my computer? Im guessing it must be hard drive. Would it be better to use a USB pen drive as the external hard drive is quite old?
Does anyone know what the problem could be as the hard drive is brand new.
    Appreciate your help
    Thanks, Gary

One of these should work, depending on the projector. Just note both will not allow you to play protected movies on the projector.

I had a 640GB HDD in my Early 2008 Macbook and it was just too much it would always freeze up the computer a bit for only a few seconds but ya. Then I realized that it was the size of the HDD that was causing it since the Early 2008 Macbook models can only handle a MAX od 500GB while the Early 2008 Macbook Pros could have a MAX of 640GB (Lucked out there!) lol But ya the Early 2008 Mocbooks can only handle a MAX HDD size of 500GB and that's it!! lol

  • Internal HD upgrade or external HD for my Macbook Pro (Late 2008)

    Hello,
I am finding the 250gb internal hard drive not enough and want to upgrade to a 500gb/1tb hard drive for my macbook pro (late 2008 edition).
What I am wondering is whether to change the internal hard drive OR buy the fastest possible external hard drive for my mac which I believe is one that works with firewire 800 as my late 2008 macbook pro does not come with USB 3.0.
The external hard drive I have found is £110 and my macbook would be using the Firewire 800 connection:
LaCie Rugged Triple 301984 1TB USB 3.0 and Firewire 800 5400 rpm Portable Hard Disk Drive
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rugged-Triple-301984-Firewire-Portable/dp/B005C2BNJI
I dont necessarily need the portability of a external hard drive. I work with large files (photoshop, illustrator files mainly) and would would be concerned that I would not be able to work directly on the hard drive for this type of work so an internal hard drive may be better/
Can anyone suggest a good, fast, cheap, popular internal hard drive compatible with my computer and whether you would suggest changing the internal HD or buying an external.
I am running Mavericks and the only other change I have made is by upgrading my RAM from 4gb to 8gb. Thanks so much for your help

For both convenience and speed, I'd recommend replacing the internal hard drive.  Your MacBook Pro can handle nearly any internal SATA 2.5" HD on the market, including 7200rpm models. For what it's worth, I'd recommend a Western Digital Black WD7500BPKX or similar or Hitachi HGST 7K1000 although in my experience Hitachi drives run hot and that's the reason I don't use them as internal drives.
FW800 is fine, but then you have an external hard drive to lug around plus the connection is considerably slower than the internal SATA connection used by the internal hard drive.
Note that you will have to either 1) clone your existing drive to the new drive or 2) completely reinstall OSX and all your apps from scratch to the new drive when you replace the internal drive.   If it were me, I'd take the opportunity to reinstall everything from scratch.
btw, I have done this myself on a number of 2008/2009 MacBook Pros and it's not hard at all.  iFixit has tutorials on how to do this.  (Here is a link to the one that I believe is your model.

That does not work on model year older then 2010 and really doesn't work on any older then late 2011 models.
You will need a set of original system dvd disc thjat are always sypplied with every mac sold before Lion came out. Systems older then late release early 2011 models.
If you don't have them you kcan order a replacement set from apple by calling them. Have the serial number of you mac handy.

  • How can i Flash and restore the firmware ( EFI ) from a Macbook pro ( late 2008 , 5.1 ) ??

    How can i Flash and restore the firmware ( EFI ) from a Macbook pro ( late 2008 , 5.1 ) ??
    Please help me !!

The Seagate backup drive I bought doesn't support 10.5.8
The only reason I can see for that is it's formatted NTFS, which would likely be Read Only in 10.5.x, if you can reformat it MacOS extended, which would erase everything on it now, then that should work for your purposes.

  • Macbook Pro (late 2008) memory upgrade problem

    Hi,
    I have an Macbook Pro (late 2008) 15'' 2.53GHz, 4GB DDR3, GeForce 9400m/9600M GT
4GB ram are by default. I tried to upgrade ram to 8GB, but my MBP doesn't recognize more than 4GB.
At Apple website I found information that maximum supported RAM memory is 4GB (which means that I cannot upgrade my MBP with 8GB of RAM), what isn't ok because it is a Pro machine. Are there some chipset drivers upgrade or BIOS firmware upgrade to let notebook to be able to has 8GB?

At Apple website I found information that maximum supported RAM memory is 4GB...
Yes, and that same information appeared in the specifications for your machine when you decided to buy it, and also in the owner's manual that came with it. So it's not a surprise — or at least it shouldn't be.
In spite of that information, and without support from Apple, you can put 6GB of RAM into it in the form of one 2GB and one 4GB module.

  • MacBook Pro (Late) 2008 running 10.8.4 Have a Black Screen cannot get out of sleep mode/will reboot/will sound off at restart.

MacBook Pro (Late) 2008 running 10.8.4
I was using my computer every morning as I do everyday with no issues. I had left home for most of the day. Closed lid and while I was gone for a couple of hours. I returned home, opened my MacBook and nothing but a black screen. I've tried many things all evening try and fix this problem out of "safety sleep mode, and other similiar tricks that other people had tried.
I still have a Black Screen and cannot get my macbook out of what seems to be the sleep mode.
I've done a master reset and after I restart, I do get the power up chime but still a black screen. I don't know what else to do. Please help. Should I bring computer to a local repair shop or is there something I can do to fix myself. I just don't know where to start.
    Thank you.
