I have a mid 2009 Macbook, can I put 4GB in each slot?

The maximum it can use is 6 GB (1x 2GB, 1x 4GB), so 2x 4GB would be redundant.
That said, it may work but without using more than 6.
I would contact Crucial or MacSales (OWC) tech support; they may well be able to advise you better than we can.

I have a mid 2009 MacBook Pro 5,3 Unibody that suffered a minor liquid spill. After waiting for it to dry out, we found that it powers up (but the display doesn't work unless connected to an external monitor) just fine. For several months it worked like a tank running Snow Leopard. I upgraded to Lion with no problems. Once the 10.7.1 update came out, it completely flipped out and wouldn't finish the install. I was forced to take it all the way back to Leopard and now it won't upgrade past Leopard. I replaced the hard drive completely and tried a fresh install of Lion using the thumb drive and that didn't work either. I got the set of errors you will find below. (Sorry, I don't know how to hide them like you can in some forums.) Any ideas or suggestions on why it won't install Lion would be great. I'm not so concerned about the display as wondering why it worked for 4 months and then another month on Lion and then suddenly flipped out on me. I'm not knowledgeable enough to decipher the message below.

Might have a hardware issue that was caused by the minor liquid spill.
Take it to Apple to have them look at it. I think they do a free diagnostics. That way you can find out what's wrong with your MB.

Run MDP to HDMI for picture. Use a cable like this to run sound from your audio out on your Mac to your TV's audio in. That's about all you can do.

You can install a 64-bit Windows 7 or Vista version in your Mac. Make sure you downloaded these drivers > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1630 Also, if you have the Snow Leopard DVD you used to upgrade your Mac or the OS X DVD that came with your Mac, you can use it to install the Boot Camp drivers

If that doesn't help, I have a Samsung SE-208AB/TSBS External DVD-Writer that works well with my mid-2007 MBP 15". Note this this drive requires 2 USB ports but doesn't use an external power adapter. Also, the above trick worked for me after I got this drive, so now I use it a Region 2 DVD player.

I have a Mid 2009 Macbook Pro 13 with no restore disk; it has OS 10.8.4 I believe there is something wrong with the OS due to I can not install flash player to view Youtube videos and the when we plug in a Bose headset the sound out will work sometimes

I bough a used Macbook Pro mid 2009 that came with OS 10.8.9 it didn't have a backup restore disk with S/N W8******66D
When trying to view some youtube videos; a window would pop up saying "it needs adobe flash player is required for video play back get the latest flash player" but after downloading the file and during installation would have errors and will not installed.....tried to reboot and install again.....but still the same.
The othe thing I had noticed is when using a good Bose headset with mic the sound output would noticed the headset and then switch from headset to Internal speekers and headset.....thinking that there might be something wrong with the plug in port of the computer or the headset.....the headset works with no issues on my iPad so there must be something wrong with the computer.....tried to move the plugin around the port but no change....while the headset is plug in can hear a short clicking noise and the sound would get lost and back again......but with nothing plugin to the port there is no issue with the sound or mic.

The "restore disk" is built into the Mac. See About Recovery.
Need more specifics about what error messages you got while installing Adobe Flash.
However, you can almost avoid Flash altogether by setting YouTube to play the HTML5 version instead.
Click the Try something new! link at the bottom of the YouTube page.
I don't know about the sound issue. Might be hardware as you think. Try other headphones to check.

Your MacBook doesn't support SATA III, so if you install a SATA III HDD, it will work with SATA II speeds.
That hard drive should work. Also, 7200 rpm hard drives will give you extra performance

Can I upgrade the HD on my mid 2009 macbook pro 13" to a SSD higher than 256gb?

I have a mid 2009 MacBook Pro 13". I use it every day for school since september of 2009. I have a HUGE iTunes library (around 150gb) and I use DAW software to create music. I'm looking to upgrade from my current 250GB 5400-rpm Serial ATA hard drive to a larger SSD. I want to do this for the speed of an SSD and I need more hard drive space. Is there anyway to upgrade my macbook to a SSD in the ballpark of 500GB-1TB?? On Apple's technical spesifications it says I cannot upgrade to an SDD with more than 256GB. Is this really true or is there any way around this?

The tech specs list the upgrades that were available from Apple when that model was being sold new. They don't necessarily reflect the aftermarket-upgradabaility. I don't believe there'd be any reason you couldn't put a hard drive/SSD of whatever capacity you want in that MBP (of course it needs to be the right physical size).
That being said, it's good practice to make sure you have a window to return it just in case.

HT4241 What video settings will I need to change on my mid-2009 Macbook Pro?

I am trying to send Audio/Video to my mother's T.V. using a third party combo cable(item # 6331), from monoprice.com. We have a 'Mid-2009 Macbook Pro. I can get the Audio with no problems. I tried all of the different resolutions on the Macbook and the closese Video image I can fet is a vertical sliver in the upper left hand corner of the T.V.(52'' Sony Bravia Model # unknown, mounted on wall) Please help. Mavericks on mid 2009 MacBook Air ?

I upgraded my girlfriend’s MacBook from Mountain Lion to Mavericks and it slowed down. It had 2 GB of RAM. I then upgraded her RAM to 8 GB and it cut the boot time by a factor of three. So the memory size matters. Unfortunatly you cannot upgrade the RAM in a MBA.
I would upgrade the operating system only when you find you need to. Each new OS version tends to demand more memory. When there are new applications that demand a new OS that may be a time to upgrade. If that time should come you need not upgrade all the way to Maveicks.

I was wondering if upgrading my mid 2009 macbook from 2gb to 4gb would cause a noticeable speed boost. I use my mac for average stuff like surfin safari, itunes and general word processing, and i have noticed when i have multiple apps running it starts to slow down and in one case i have checked activity monitor to see that only 100mb of the 1.75gb of system memory was free. and as i am writing this i have itunes, xtorrent, safari, and system monitor running and it report that only 420mb of system memory is free
also if it is a good idea what brand ram is best my local microcenter has 2 different 4gb kits, also i dont want to go through an internet site due to fear of ram being damaged during shupping (past experince)

I would go with the Crucial memory kit. That's the only brand name I have ever purchased, and their RAM always works. If you have troubles with either module, you can send them back to Crucial for an exchange.

Mountain Lion on mid-2009 MacBook Pro spinning beachball is becoming frequent

I have a mid 2009 MacBook Pro 2.53 GHZ 4 GB ram and more and more I am getting the spinning beachball. When verifying permissions it says Est time 1 minute for close to 5 minutes, My TM drive won't repair. The machine is just much slower. I have a new hard drive and I replaced the battery because it was giving me a battery error. Is this all the result of running Mountain Lion? I have had it for several months and it just seems to be getting worse.

Surprised there hasn't been anyone else experiencing this issue.
I have seen this on 2 new MBP 2.3mhz i5's with the Intel HD 3000 384mb graphics, Lion 10.7.3 & 10.7.4.
Also with the latest Lion firmware for the late 2011 MBP's that addresses compatibility and stability issues.
Hopefully there is a fix soon because the painting on my locked screen to login is getting annoying

I have destroyed the motherboard of a Mid 2009 MacBook Pro. How do I find out the technical specifications so I can give accurate information to someone who buys it for parts?

I recently had an unfortunate incident with a glass of water and a mid 2009-MacBook Pro. 13 inch screen.
According to the techs at the genius bar, the screen, keyboard, chassis and hard drive (160g) were still all good - as were all components other than the Motherboard.
I just completed the complete erasure of the hard drive, but don't have the technical specifications at my disposal.
Does anyone know how I can get them - the guy at apple said he didn't think he could help?
