HT1655 My computer is not recognizing my 4th generation Ipod shuffle

My computer is not recognizing my new 4th generation IPOD Shuffle

I had the same problem then I discovered I was not pushing the Jack in fully. Once I did this it suddenly became successfully recognised. (Only took me 4 hours of trying to realise what I was doing wrong) Hope this helps.

  • I have a 4th generation iPod shuffle which does not show up in windows or iTunes. But my iPhone does any suggestions?

I have a 4th generation iPod shuffle which is not recognised in windows or iTunes when I connect to the computer , yet I have no problem when I connect my iPhone. I have installed the latest iTunes. Can anybody help me?

Thanks! But I actually figured it out! Right after I said something about the driver, I went into device mangager. Sure enough even though it did not show up as a drive letter the device manager said is was installed and working.
So I deleted the device out of device manager. Restarted and plugged it in. Although I go some weird error. It found the IPOD and now Itunes sees it.
I believe that killing the process would have done the same thing as you stated.
Thanks to all for taking the time to answer these issues. It beats the apple store or tech support.

My 2010 13" MacBook Pro does not recognize my 1st generation iPod Shuffle. Do I need software? Is there anywhere I can go to download it?

    Hi all -
I cannot view my flash drive OR my office server, which I should be able to connect to via VPN. VPN was installed on my Macbook Pro at my office on Friday. It worked fine. Now I bring it home, and I connect using VPN, and it shows that I am connected, yet the server hard drive icon does not appear on my desktop (as it usually did) and I can't see how to access the server at work.
I also cannot view flash drives when I plug them in - they just don't show up.
I had Norton installed; I read online I should disable that. I did this, and no luck. I also have already done all the things suggested on this post and have all the boxes checked, and yet, still cannot use a flash drive or access my work server.
I am stuck? Do I have to bring my Macbook pro in for service? I have NOT upgraded to Mavericks.
    Thanks for any help.
I am not that well versed in finding my way around a Mac - so keep any explanations simple, please.

  • ITunes does not recognize my first generation iPod Shuffle

iTunes does not recognize my first generation iPod Shuffle (512MB).  Windows 7 sees the iPod as an empty external drive although the iPod has music on it.  The iPod plays the music fine.  iTunes does recognize a similar first generation iPod Shuffle.
What can be wrong with the iPod Shuffle?   How can I fix?
    Thanks,I

  • HT4322 4th generation ipod shuffle how do you add your playlist with the songs in the order you want

I have a playlist with songs in the order I wish to hear them if I don't wish to have them shuffled.  I've been unable to add my playlist to my new ipod shuffle (it's absolutely no problem with my 2nd generation ipod shuffle) in the order I wish the songs to play. It's been putting the songs in by the artist name.  How do I have it add the songs in the order I have them listed on my playlist?

    Here's what I'm doing:
When I connect the ipod to the computer, I click on  Devices showing my ipod.
A window opens, and I click on Music.
Sync Music is checked, and I've checked the playlist I want.
I then click on the Sync button at the lower right side of the Music menu.
A display on the menu bar shows "Syncing Music to My ipod," and indicates it is copying 1 of 146 (the number of items on my playlist), and the name of the song.
The songs are all on my playlist, but it is listing them by Genre (I just figured that out), and this is the order in which they are on the ipod.
I guess my question at this point is how/where/what do I select to have the songs synced in the order I have them on my playlist.
    I appreciate your input.

  • Is ios7 not available for 4th generation iPods?

Is it true it's not available?

Correct, as the 4th generation doesn't have the required hardware (256mB of RAM as opposed to 512mB) to support the new iOS.

  • I bought a 4th generation ipod shuffle and got the newest itunes download.  Whenever I try to go to set it up, it shows me the squares to click but doesnt say what I am clicking on.  I have an older shuffle as well but have no problems with it.

I have an ipod shuffle (about 2-3 years old) and bought the 4th generation shuffle for my daughter.  When I try to set hers up, it takes me to a summary page, and on the left I can see ipod, version, options but the squares that I would click on have nothing next to them.  So I don't know what I am trying to put on the ipod.  Then if I click on music (sync music, playlist, artist), again, I can see the squares but not the words next to them.  Does this have anything to do with the other shuffle or computer sharing?  I am unhappy right now and have to get this fixed in two days.  HELP!!

  • Itunes 8 not compatible with 1st generation ipod shuffle

I have had a **** of a time tonight trying to get my ipod shuffle working with itunes 8 and finally gave up after trying to restore it via itunes 8 which totally screwed it up because it wouldn't finish the restore so I had to unplug the ipod. Got a zillion ipod busy errors when trying to restore. Used disk utility to format it for apple hfs.... still wouldn't restore.... ipod busy b.s. error messages... tried formatting it for fat on itunes 7.7.1 and finally got it so that itunes could get it restored and working. Problem is... now I have to try and switch back to itunes 7.7.1 which means deleting my computer from apple tv and using disk utility to backup my older 7.7.1 over my itunes 8 in order to get back to some kind of workable solution. Plus my itunes 8 library is more up to date than my backup. So that means more messing around. Fortunately I was able to restore most, not all of the files by plugging in my ipod 80gb. For some reason it didn't copy all the new movie files over.
I've had so many problems with compatibility, crashing, locking up etc that it is no longer worth my time to try and use itunes 8.
Not only can't I change album artwork in itunes 8... it basically doesn't want to work my my old ipod shuffle either.
This is one version of itunes that was not tested properly before putting it on the download server.

  • 4th generation iPod Shuffle works on one PC (Windows 7) but not another.

    Hi all.
My issue with the 4th gen shuffle is pretty strange, at least, from what I've read here on the forums already. My sister recieved one as a christmas present just this past year (Happy New Year, all!), and as I am the family's tech guy, I was given the task of configuring it for her use and whatnot, as she is younger.
Having owned a shuffle myself, I figured it wouldn't be all that difficult.
At first I ran into the issue of not plugging the USB cord in all the way, but being the computer-geek I am, I recognized the symptoms fairly quickly and noticed the eighth of an inch of plug still sticking out of the little hole.
Interesting, interesting. So now it was plugged in properly.. but iTunes was immediately saying it was corrupted. So, not too bad, just click restore, right?.. wrong.
The restore hangs. I google the issue. A lot of people suggest reinstalling iTunes and whatnot.. attempting a format on the iPod itself to make sure it's in Windows format.
I try many many things on this PC, only to wind up plugging the thing into another Windows 7 PC. The only difference between the two is that the other PC is running 64 bit Windows 7 as opposed to 32 bit. Strangely enough, however, the iPod functions and works perfectly on one computer and does not get recognized by Windows as a disk drive or a mountable partition on the original PC.
I discovered today that the motherboard drivers for the original PC weren't properly installed by visiting nVidia's site.. but this didn't help the problem. I also attempted to restart all of Apple's iPod services through Windows, as well as to reinstall iTunes multiple times. I disabled basically all other services running on the computer, turned off Avast antiVirus, etc.
I did try several different USB ports as well. Front ports, back ports, even the installed memory card reader has a USB port that I attempted to use to connect the iPod.. all to no avail.
The only thing I can honestly guess at this point, is, that there is some other conflicting service or background process that is totally preventing the iPod from properly being recognized by Windows, especially as multiple driver reinstalls / restarts do absolutely nothing to solve the issue. I also find it very odd that iTunes will recognize the iPod as being plugged in, but consider it corrupted despite the fact that it runs just fine on the other PC. Perhaps the major difference is, in fact, the 64 bit OS? I also find it odd, indeed, that despite it showing up in iTunes as a corrupted iPod, when I click the diagnostics button under the help menu in iTunes, it will say there is no iPod plugged in.
I am really just confused and dumbstruck by all of this, and regardless, my sister's christmas present is currently nothing more than a pink clip on button.
Please note that I have tried or looked into most if not all of the support pages pertaining to this issue. I am very much hoping there is something simple I've overlooked, or that there is some specific order in which things must be done in order to properly force Windows to recognize the device (like it does so easily with so many other devices..).

There is a USB printer connected to the back port of the PC. The mouse and keyboard are both PS/2.
I did attempt to reinstall the USB root drivers. After uninstalling iTunes and all the other apple software packages included, I uninstalled everything USB in Device Manager, then rebooted the PC to let Windows reinstall it all.
Reinstalling the OS -might- fix the issue, but if that were the case, it's most likely just a software conflict that can easily be fixed if I can manage to narrow the specific conflicts down. I've already essentially disabled everything with MSCONFIG except for Apple stuff, so I'm at a loss as to where to go. I've attempted the 5 Rs and all that as well, none of it seems to do the trick. I also cleared the temp folder multiple times (once per each iTunes uninstall / reinstall following the support site directions of uninstalling all the extra apple software) as well as attempted restarts of the Apple services.
One oddity I would like to point out is that if I attempt to restart the iPod service through services.msc, it will not restart. It throws the error message of "the service failed to respond in a timely fashion" or whatever. I instead have to use the windows Task Manager to manually kill the iPod process in the processes list.
I just now removed the USB printer and plugged the shuffle into the same port, but I receive the same error message in iTunes about the iPod being corrupted and it needing a restore. If I push restore, the software gets stuck in an endless loop. There are no other USB devices attached to this computer, the motherboard drivers are fully up to date from nVidia's website, and other USB devices clearly function just fine (USB memory sticks, USB printer, etc). If I use the Diagnostics option under Help in iTunes, it will claim there is no iPod connected, and, again, the iPod still does not show up in Windows Explorer under My Computer as an attached device, nor does it show up in Disk Management as a mounted partition.

  • 4th generation iPod shuffle isn't recognized by iTunes

I've tried everything suggested, disconnected all USB plug-ins, rebooted the computer, made sure shuffle is fully charged, tried different ports - nada.  My MAC has all software up-to-date.  So frustrating - I'm about ready to throw it out the window (the suffle not the MAC).  Help?

You could try reformatting the iPod manually outside of iTunes...but also try a different computer...if its not picked up there, then the iPod could be faulty or you may need a different wire...good luck with your plight bud

  • Why is my 4th generation iPod Shuffle not recognised by the new Itunes 11?

Made the old mistake of "upgrading", this time to iTunes 11. I'm sure it is all very exciting and pretty and what have you, but as I can no longer see my device in iTunes it is all pretty pointless. Anyone else having this? Any solutions out there (as reverting to previous iTunes is, of course, a no-go - so double thanks, Apple!).

    - While charging try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next try restoring the iPod via iTunes.  First from backup and if still problem restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
    - However, I really think that the iPod has a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.  If defective Apple should give you a refurbished iPod.

  • 2nd and 4th Generation iPod shuffles show as corrupt on new iMac

My 2nd and 4th gen shuffles are showing as corrupt when syncing with my new iMac, but work just fine when syncing with the prior iMac we just replaced. I took the Shuffles to the Apple store and they confirmed no issues with the devices. I have read and searched without a formal fix...restoring the iPods does not help and deleting the p.list files did not correct the issue...any other with a similar issue?
Thank you for any help that could be provided....

This is very mysterious...  You can try starting up in Safe Mode.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564
Some things do not work in Safe Mode, but I think you can still run iTunes and do a Restore on an iPod.  This is like the new user account test, except you are checking to see if some non-Apple system extension is causing a problem.  Only the minimal Apple extensions run when starting up in Safe Mode.
I'm sure you have the latest version of iTunes, if you are running the latest Mavericks release.
You are probably running the system and software installation that came pre-installed (plus updates).  The only other thing I can think of to try is to reinstall everything, and try it on a "clean" system.  If you have an external USB drive that is not being used, you can do the installation on that drive, and start up from it.  That will avoid messing with your internal drive, to try something that may not make a difference.
You can do this using the Recovery disk.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH13871
When you get to Step 4, if that external drive is connected, you should be able to select it as your target for the installation, instead of "Macintosh HD" on your internal drive.  NOTE:  The external drive needs to be formatted for Mac.  If it has a PC format, you'll need to use Disk Utility to erase it, like you did for the shuffle earlier, except use Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as the Format.
After the installation completes (and the iMac restarts from the new system) select Software Update from the Apple menu (a few times) to install all Apple updates.  Then, run iTunes and see if the problem still occurs.
You can change your startup disk (back to your normal startup disk) in System Preferences Startup Disk pane.

  • I recently bought a 4th generation ipod shuffle.  Am I able to have both music and audio podcasts loaded on it at the same time?

I have not been able to include both music and audio podcasts on my shuffle at the same time. Is this possible with the shuffle?

I disabled all my computer's firewalls and sure enough, IT WORKED!! My iPod is updated and just now finishing restoring! Thank you SOOOO SOOO much. : D
