HT1657 After downloading the rented movie, will I need Internet service to watch it

If I download a rented movie from iTunes Store. Can I watch it in an area which has no Internet service, such as a camp site

As long as it has been fully downloaded then you should be able to watch it whilst offline

Once I download a rented movie on iTunes doi need Internet connection to watch it.

Please be aware of the movie rental's time limitation that you have 30 days from the time of rental to watch your movie, and once you start watching it, you have 24 hours to finish watching it. You may watch it as many times as you like during those 24 hours. It may be helpful to make sure the download completes successfully before you begin watching the movie.
Once the download is complete you can watch it without an Internet connection. However, an Internet connection to the iTunes Store is required to authorize playback or activate the 24 hours time-limit of movie rentals. This means, only during the starting of the movie. Once you have started playing the movie rental, internet connection is not required. You can play anywhere without internet connection.
For more information on movie rentals, you can visit:

Note: 24 hours time limit is for United States customer only, while 48 hours for other countries.

  • HT1657 Once I download a rented movie, do I need WiFi access in order to watch it?

Once I download a rented movie, do I need WiFi access in order to watch it?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
From my own personal experience, I have found that when I turn off the Wi-Fi on my Wi-Fi only iPad, I am still able to play rented movies on it. I have tried this perhaps four or five times and in each case, this has been the result. I have also noted that other users have had the same experience as I.
However saying that I have noted a small number of users that have stated they are unable to view rented movies without an Internet connection. This knowledge base article from Apple, also suggests that an Internet connection is required.

  • HT1657 I downloaded a rented movie through my iMac and now I want to watch it on my apple tv, why isn't it working?

    Help

    Hello FeedUpUser,
Thank you for the question.  When you purchase a rental, you can view it on one device at a time:
Can I play my rental on more than one device?
If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV (1st generation), iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4 or later, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.
If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer.

If you are using a first generation Apple TV, you can transfer your movie to the Apple TV using the steps in the section titled "Transfer a rental from your iTunes library to iPod, iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV" in the following articles:

If you have a second or third generation Apple TV, you can use AirPlay to play the rental through your Apple TV.  You can find the steps in the following article:

  • HT1657 Cannot download a rented movie

Rented a movie on my iPad; could not download on iPad due to not enough storage.  Purchased 20GB of extra storage., which doesn't show up and I cannot download the movie.  Tried to download on to my computer - doesn't show up in my purchases.  I would have to purchase it again.  So basically, It would end up costing me $50 bucks to watch a 90 minute movie.  Anyone have any suggestions?  Thanks in advance.

    Hi Phin,
Purchasing more iCloud storage is not going to help you if your device storage is low. They are not related.
    Open iTunes and sign on
Click on Movies in the sidebar
Click on Unwatched in the Movies window
You should see your rental, and will be able to watch it from there
    Cheers,

  • HT201272 I need to re download a rented movie I had to delete it before watching.  How can I re download it?

I need to redowload a rented movie I haven't watched yet.  I purchased it about 10 days ago but I to delete it to make room for something else.  I can't find a place to redowload it.  Please help.... thanks

As RG indicated, rented movies cannot be re-downloaded. If you deleted it, you'll have to repurchase the rental.

  • Quicktime wont play my xvid-imagine files, even after downloading the componets it said i needed

I have uninstalled and re-installed quicktime several different times. Every time, it tells me that I am missing componets. So I went to the componet page and downloaded the xvid (thinking thats what i needed considering thats the file my movies are in), but it still wont play. I have also tried changing the options to the safe mode (gdi only) and still nothing. Is there anything else I can do??

Try using http://ninite.com/java/ninite.exe to install Java. Please note that even though you download it you have to double click it to get it to run and install.

  • HT1657 Re-download a rented movie

My MacBook Air died recently, I had rented Skyfall before that happened.
I have a new MacBook Air, and I have 18 days left before Skyfall expires, how can I download it again?
When I log into the iTunes Store and click on Purchase History, I can see that I rented it but it doesn't give me an option to re-download it.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

Rentals are currently a one-time only download, you will need to try contacting iTunes Support and see if they will grant you a re-download. Either try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via the Store > View Account menu option and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find that rental and use the 'Report a Problem' link and fill in the details (iTunes support should reply within, I think, about 24 hours).
Or try contacting them via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • Why will it take 26  hours to download a rented movie?

Why will it take 26+ hours to download a rented movie?

For watching a movie only the download speed matters, and 4 mbps is OK, not great but good enough to start streaming a movie in about 10 minutes or less (rentals don't have to download all the way to begin watching).
Something else is clogging the pipe ... is the ATV connected to the router via Ethernet, or over Wi-Fi?  Wi-Fi is normally faster than your ISP service, but there might be router settings that are getting in the way of the Wi-Fi connection.  Ethernet may be faster, at least to see if it works better, or there might be port settings on your router that need to be optimized (sorry, can't help you there).
I've also heard that changing your router's DNS address may help things (try OpenDNS's addresses "208.67.222.220" or "208.67.222.222", or Google's DNS "8.8.4.4" or "8.8.8.8").

  • HT1657 Do I need wifi to view the rented movie?

Do I need wifi to view the rented movie?

I called the apple store and they said you need WIFI to download it, but after it is finished downloading you do not need wifi.  I downloaded it successfully and it shows up in my "Videos" app on the IPAD.  Once you hit play you have 24 hours to watch it as many times as you want then it is done.  If it is rented.
