HT1657 Can I do watch something else on tv while I am waiting for my rented movie to download?

Can we watch something else on our tv while we are waiting for our rented movie to download (Hours!!!)???

Not advisable, the ATV (2n'd and 3'rd gen) doesn't have a hard drive, it is limited memory which is used for streaming only.
Try to avoid renting HD... should not take as long.

  • HT1657 Do I have to wait for a rented movie to download before playing?

I seem to need to wait for my rented movie to fully download before playing. Is this normal? I would have expected once the download has begun, for playing the movies to be possible. Any advice?

Nope. If they have them in stock, then you can get one, and if they don't, try again later. No list.

  • Can I play music or videos whilst waiting for a rented movie to start?

    ?

I agree with the above. It's a streaming device, the movie is loading to the cache and if you try to access other content you may have to re-load the movie

  • Downloading Movie. Can I watch something else?

I have a new Apple TV 2 and have just rented my first movie. It is taking a long time to download. Can I watch something else while the download continues? I would like to watch something from Netflix.
    Thanks.

AppleTV2 downloads rentals to it's solid state memory which is about 8GB split between various tasks (eg photos for streaming, movie rental, buffering local conetnt etc).
The trouble is there's no clear idea of how this memory is managed though from my experience and other reports it seems that a download is not necessarily 'protected' from being wiped by other actions.
I rented a small SD movie of about 1GB - watched it through, then next morning a relative who'd fallen asleep decided to watch again (well within the view period). The movie unfortunately had to be downloaded again from scratch, as something as simple as playing a few audio tracks seemed to have flushed it from memory. Maybe it wipes after a full view anyway, but this seems daft as to rewatch within the view period you end up wasting your bandwidth and Apple's which makes little sense.
So, while you could certainly watch something from Netflix i would not be surprised if that then forced a redownload of the rental.

  • How come if I rent a movie on my apple tv and pause it to watch something else for 5 minutes I can not find my rentals anywhere on my apple tv

I rent a movie. I watch 1 hour of it. I go to watch something els efor 5 moinutes. I can not get back to my rental.
I go to check for rentals under settings it loads for ever. Argh! How do I access my rentals during the 24 I have to watch!!! So annonying.

I had the same problem and solved it by signing out of iTunes and iCloud, rebooting the Apple TV and then signing back in again.

  • HT1657 Once a rented movie is downloaded do I need an Internet connection to view it?  For example can I download a movie and watch it on a flight?

Once a rented movie is downloaded do I need an Internet connection to view it?  For example can I download a movie and watch it on a flight?

Please be aware of the movie rental's time limitation that you have 30 days from the time of rental to watch your movie, and once you start watching it, you have 24 hours to finish watching it. You may watch it as many times as you like during those 24 hours. It may be helpful to make sure the download completes successfully before you begin watching the movie.
Once the download is complete you can watch it without an Internet connection. However, an Internet connection to the iTunes Store is required to authorize playback or activate the 24 hours time-limit of movie rentals. This means, only during the starting of the movie. Once you have started playing the movie rental, internet connection is not required. You can play anywhere without internet connection.
For more information on movie rentals, you can visit:

Note: 24 hours time limit is for United States customer only, while 48 hours for other countries.

Once rented movie is downloaded, how do I find it to watch?

I just rented a movie on my iPhone 4 and wanted to transfer it to my MacBook Pro. I then read Apple's FAQ and learned this:
Can I play my rental on more than one device?
*If you download a rented movie on your computer:* You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4, iPod touch (4th generation), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.
*If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation), or Apple TV:* It is not transferable to any other device or computer.

You posted in the iPad forum instead of the iPhone forum. To get answers to your question, next time post in the proper forum. See https://discussions.apple.com/index.jspa  I'll request that Apple relocate your post.

  • Why isn't my iTunes store loading properly? It lists everything in text without images, and I can't seem to access the store when I try to search for music or movies etc.

    1) The best way to relocate the iTunes library folder is to move the entire iTunes folder with all subfolders to the new path, then press and hold down shift as start iTunes and keep holding until prompted to choose a library, then browse to the relocated folder and open the file iTunes Library.itl inside it.
If you've done something different then provide some more details about what is where and I should be able to help.
    2) Purchases on the device should automatically transfer to a Purchased on <DeviceName> playlist, but it my depend a bit on whether automatic iCloud downloads are enabled. If there is a cloudy link then the transfer might not happen. You can use File > Devices > Transfer Purchases. In iTunes you should also check out iTunes Store > Quick Links > Purchased > Music > Not on this computer.
    3) Backup the device, then immediately restore it. In some cases you need to add a restore as new device into that equation. Obbviously not to be attempted until you're sure all your media is in your library. See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device should it be needed.
    4) I believe there is complimentary 1 incident 90-day support with hardware purchases, but no free software support for iTunes itself. AppleCare gets you a different level of support.

  • I have two hard drives on my mac 10.5.8 power pc and hear the clickking sounds of the first hard drive and think that it may be dying, can I install everything on the other hard drive also and wait for the first drvie to die before i use the other drives

I have two hard drives on my mac 10.5.8 power pc and hear the clickking sounds of the first hard drive and think that it may be dying, can I install everything on the other hard drive also and wait for the first drive to die before i use the other drives? Or, what is the best way to handle this?

I do not know what you are waiting for.
I'd make a backup of your important stuff before cloning the entire disk.
Carbon Copy Cloner will copy your startup drive to an external  firewire drive.  You can boot from the external drive to verify that you have a good clone. When you upgrade your existing startup drive, you can at any time boot from your external drive and go back to your existing system.

SuperDuper is the wildly acclaimed program that makes recovery painless, because it makes creating a fully bootable backup painless. Its incredibly clear, friendly interface is understandable, easy to use, and SuperDuper's built-in scheduler makes it trivial to back up automatically. And it runs beautifully on both Intel and Power PC Macs!

But how do you install the drivers if Bootcamp is running interference?
Bottom line, I'ev tried to install three different versions of updated ATI driver sover the last few momnths and on each and every occassion have ended up with the original Bootcamp driver. A number of current games are unplayable on a Mac running Bootcamp as a result.
And if I can't run the software I want, then Bootcamp is as useless as boobs on a bull.

  • How can i get my rented movie itunes download is informing waiting

  • I have a receipt for a rented movie but can't find the movie in iTunes or on Video app.

I have a receipt for a rented movie but can't find the movie in iTunes or on Video app. Shouldn't it show in my movie file on iTunes or Video app on iPad?

If you rented it on your iPad then it should have downloaded into its Videos app - if it hasn't completed downloading then it might still show in the iTunes app in a Downloads tab in it (Downloads only shows if there are downloads happening), the iTunes app on your iPad is just the store.
If it doesn't show in Videos then does it show via the iPad's spotlight search screen : pull down the centre of the homescreen (not from the very top of the screen, that will open Notification Centre) ?
If you rented it on your computer's iTunes then you will have to connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and use its Movies tab to move it over to the iPad - rentals are a one-time only download, so won't show on your iPad for redownloading.
If you can't find it on the device/computer that you rented it on then try the 'report a problem' page to contact iTunes Support : http://reportaproblem.apple.com
