HT1657 can i watch a rental on an airplane?

im traveling to ny tomorrow soooo can i watch a rental movie with no internet in the skyyy?? thanks

Please be aware of the movie rental's time limitation that you have 30 days from the time of rental to watch your movie, and once you start watching it, you have 24 hours to finish watching it. You may watch it as many times as you like during those 24 hours. It may be helpful to make sure the download completes successfully before you begin watching the movie.
Once the download is complete you can watch it without an Internet connection. However, an Internet connection to the iTunes Store is required to authorize playback or activate the 24 hours time-limit of movie rentals. You will unable to play the movie rental if you haven't started playing and activated the rental time limit of the movie rental before you board on the airplane.

Note: Movie rental time limit is 24 hours only for United States customer while 48 hours for other country.

Can you watch a rental in airplane mode

    Welcome to the Apple community.
From my own personal experience, I have found that when I turn off the Wi-Fi on my Wi-Fi only iPad, I am still able to play rented movies on it. I have tried this perhaps four or five times and in each case, this has been the result. I have also noted that other users have had the same experience as I.
However saying that I have noted a small number of users that have stated they are unable to view rented movies without an Internet connection. This knowledge base article from Apple, also suggests that an Internet connection is required.

  • HT1657 Can I watch a rental movie in my iPad when in an airplane with the airplane mode on?

I rented a couple of movies hoping to watch them in the plane and all it says is it can not open when I try to watch.... Is there a way to watch rented movies in airplane mode?

Actually, I just called AppleCare and they told me that an Internet connection was required. I tried it anyways. Once the rented movie is fully downloaded onto your iPad, it will appear in the Videos app, in the Rentals section. From there, even if you turn the airplane mode on, you should be able to press the play button and watch the movie. Note that I rented the movie in HD format and that I use the iPad 3rd generation.
    Hope this helps,
    Cheers,

Can I download an iTunes movie rental and watch it later without an internet connection (e.g. on the plane)?

As long as the film has been fully downloaded then you should be able to watch whilst offline.

Can you watch a rented movie from iTunes in flight?

Please be aware of the movie rental's time limitation that you have 30 days from the time of rental to watch your movie, and once you start watching it, you have 24 hours to finish watching it. Once the download is complete you can watch it without an Internet connection. However, an Internet connection to the iTunes Store is required to authorize playback or activate the 24 hours time-limit of movie rentals. This means, only during the starting of the movie. Once you have started playing the movie rental, internet connection is not required. You can play anywhere without internet connection.
You may need to validate the rental prior to watching so it starts the rental period timer and for that you will need an internet connection. You can probably do that by starting the rented movie while on the Airport Wifi or right before leaving home. You'll have 24 hours to watch the movie after you start it.

  • Can't watch HD rentals via iTunes?

Am I reading this right? I was under the impression that we could watch HD rentals on our computer but I can't seem to figure out how. Are HD renatals for the Apple TV only? That really doesn't make much sense.

How is the 299 apple tv more capable of playing HD than the $2000 iMac I just bought??!
I was really excited about this until now.
if HD is Apple TV only then I will look elsewhere for content.
I feel deceived and ripped off.
Clearly my imac can play HD, but Apple wants to force me to buy ANOTHER box? I JUST gave you all my money for this imac. Now you throw this in my face?
    I'm disgusted.

Can you watch movies on an airplane? Is the movie streaming.

Movies from the iTunes Store download to your device; they do not stream. Under normal circumstances, once the movie has completely downloaded, an Internet connection should no longer be required. In a few instances, I've seen reports of people encountering problems when trying to view a rental in absence of an Internet connection, but such glitches seem to be rare.
    Regards.

can i watch rented movies on my ipad with no wifi? Like on a plane trip?

Yes. although you do occasionally hear about people having problems.  If your trip is less than 24 hours, it might be a good idea to start the movie while you're connected to WiFi (which will start the rental clock ticking) and pause it.  You're not supposed to have to do this, but some people swear it prevents the occasional glitch.  I've only rented a couple of movies and they worked find on the plane.
