HT1657 Cannot find or download a rented movie. It keeps telling me to go to "Downloads" to manage, but there is no such thing in the video app or on iTunes. I think I just ****** away my money. No wonder Apple is so profitable.

iTunes is a complete train wreck. Done trying to do anything on the store. waste of time AND money.

Hey there rtetley,
It sounds like you were unable to watch your rental and you cannot find it to download it and watch it in the iTunes App or the Video app. I recommend reporting the problem to the iTunes Store support team directly with the following article:
How to report an issue with your iTunes Store, App Store, Mac App Store, or iBooks Store purchase
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1933
To report an issue with your iTunes Store, App Store, Mac App Store, or iBooks Store purchase, follow these steps:
Find the email receipt for your purchase.
Click Report a Problem under the app that is having the issue.
When prompted, enter the Apple ID and password you used to purchase the item, then click Report a Problem.
Click Report a Problem next to the item you are having an issue with.
From the Choose Problem dropdown menu, choose the appropriate issue.
Follow the onscreen instructions and—if prompted—type a description of the problem into the text field.
Click Submit to have your issue reviewed.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
All the best,
Sterling

    Hello there, teterita.
The following Knowledge Base article offers a few recommendations to try when troubleshooting issues with iTunes Store:
Can't connect to the iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1368
    Particularly:
Troubleshoot issues on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store:
Make sure your date, time, and time zone are correct in Settings > General > Date & Time.
Note: Time Zone may list another city in your time zone.
Make sure that your iOS software is up to date by tapping Settings > General > Software Update (iOS 5 or later) or connecting your iOS device to iTunes and clicking Check for Update on your device's Summary page.
Check and verify that you're in range of a Wi-Fi router or base station. If you're on a device with cellular service, make sure that cellular data is turned on from Settings > General > Cellular.
Note: If connected to cellular data, larger items may not download. You may need to connect to Wi-Fi to download apps, videos, and podcasts.
Make sure that you have an active Internet connection. You can check the user guide for your device for help with connecting to the Internet.
Make sure that other devices (portable computers, for example) are able to connect to the Wi-Fi network and access the Internet.
Try resetting (turning off and then on again) your Wi-Fi router.
If the issue persists, try troubleshooting your Wi-Fi networks and connections.
If you still find that you are unable to download your purchase, then you may want to report the issue using the following article:
How to report an issue with your iTunes Store, App Store, Mac App Store, or iBooks Store purchase

  • I am trying to download a rented movie I keep greeting a pop up saying to go to downloads manage downloads where is that on my iPad 2

    Help see question

    Hi Allen & Alberta
I have exactly the same problem.
    The article did not help.
It says go to "Downloads" just as the pop up message said.
There is no Downloads App on my iPad.
There is no Downloads button in my Videos app.
There is no Downloads button in my iTubes store app.
There is no Downloads button in settings for any of the above.
I am clearly looking in the wrong place.
Can you where I should go to grind this Downloads button which I will happily tap?
    Thanks for that!

  • HT1657 I cannot find or play my rented movie

I have been billed and downloaded the movie.  In the iTunes application on my pc, no movies can be found....its just blank.
I searched my hard drive and found the movie under C;/*/*/*/iTunes Media/Movies.  Its there.....great!
When I right click and select 'open with' iTunes, it launches and takes me back to the Movies tab with no movies in it.  Whats up with that?  The movie is PG-13 and no parental controls on this machine.  Oh and 'Show items in the iCloud' is enabled if that means anything.....Im trying really hard but seems like a glitch

24 hrs later......I had to restart my pc.  After launching iTunes, the movie I rented mysteriously showed up and is there under the Movies tab.  Weird....Whatever.  I guess after download you need to restart.....I dont know but its there now

  • I added a movie to my iPod, but it won't show up in the videos library! I have to search for it in the search bar!

So I downloaded a video in mp4 format and added it to iTunes. It shows up in the Home Videos tab and i can play it just fine, but, when i plug my iPod Touch into my pc and let it sync, it doesn't show! When i say this i mean it is ON my ipod, but to get to it i have to search for it in Videos. All that shows up in the library is a Family Guy episode i purchased from itunes a while back and at the top it says "Family Guy" as if it is it's own catagory. There is no back button or any buttons for that matter. Just the search bar and the episode. This is what i get when i launch Videos:
And to get the video i have to tap the search bar and search it and play it from there

Do you have any videos/movies in the video app?
In iTunes if you right click on the video and select Get Info and go to the Option tap what Media Type is shown?

  • HT1657 cannot find rented movie from iTunes store

I recently downloaded a rented movie, but was interupted durning its download. I reinstated the download but now I cannot find the rented movie to watch it.  Where is it?

If you rented it directly on the iPad then it should have downloaded into the Videos app - if you can't find it in there then have you got a film age rating set in Settings > General > Restrictions that is hiding it ?

  • I could not download a rented movie and cannot find a way to receive a refund. Do I have to use the dispute process with my Visa provider?

When rented movies do not download properly or completely, there seems to be no method to obtain a refund.  It is poor business to require the customer to use the credit card dispute process to make good on a bad purchase.  This was my first and last attempt at downloading a rented movie from iTunes.  I would NOT recommend the process to a friend.  The site is confusing, the process takes forever, the movie did not completely download, and the company only provides a 24 hour period to correct the problem (left up totally to the customer).  Thank God for Netflix!  Always works and is very reliable!

There are a number of methods to contact iTunes Support when you have a problem with a purchase. You can try the 'report a problem' page to contact them : http://reportaproblem.apple.com
Or you can use this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

    Help

    Hello FeedUpUser,
Thank you for the question.  When you purchase a rental, you can view it on one device at a time:
Can I play my rental on more than one device?
If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV (1st generation), iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4 or later, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.
If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer.

If you are using a first generation Apple TV, you can transfer your movie to the Apple TV using the steps in the section titled "Transfer a rental from your iTunes library to iPod, iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV" in the following articles:

  • HT1657 Once I download a rented movie do I need Internet connection to watch

Once I download a rented movie on iTunes doi need Internet connection to watch it.

Please be aware of the movie rental's time limitation that you have 30 days from the time of rental to watch your movie, and once you start watching it, you have 24 hours to finish watching it. You may watch it as many times as you like during those 24 hours. It may be helpful to make sure the download completes successfully before you begin watching the movie.
Once the download is complete you can watch it without an Internet connection. However, an Internet connection to the iTunes Store is required to authorize playback or activate the 24 hours time-limit of movie rentals. This means, only during the starting of the movie. Once you have started playing the movie rental, internet connection is not required. You can play anywhere without internet connection.
For more information on movie rentals, you can visit:
iTunes Store: Movie rental frequently asked questions (FAQ)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1657
Note: 24 hours time limit is for United States customer only, while 48 hours for other countries.

    Hey rangermikegsm,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you’re concerned because you don’t see your rentals in iTunes, but they appear to have downloaded. Take a look at the article below and check the Rentals tab in iTunes on your MacBook.
About renting movies from the iTunes Store - Apple Support
    Find movies you rented previously
Find your movie on the device you used to rent it.
On a Mac or PC: Go to the Rentals tab in the Movies section of the iTunes Library.
On an iOS device: Go to the Rental tab of the Videos app.
Using Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation): Look in the top shelf of the main menu.
    Ciao,
    -Jason

    Hi,
Have you tried using your iPod's Search function to find the movie?  (The Search function is to the left of the home screen.)
    Hope this helps!
