How does one get an iPod nano to turn on other than the "normal" way? This one has been dropped and all I can get is a blank screen. I have tried holding down the HOME button to restart it but no go. When I connect it to my computer, I am told to enter the PASSCODE which I cannot do as there is no touchpad.

If it's an iPod touch, try a reset.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, whether it's an iPod nano or touch, it probably needs service > Apple - Support - Service Answer Center -

I turned on my computer and all that I see is a white screen with an file folder in the middle of screen that flahes. The file folder also has a question mark on it.
Try booting to Recovery (Command + R just after releasing the power button)
If you are running 10.6.8 or Earlier you will need the Install DVD and to hold down C instead.
Once in there go into Disk Utility, Can you see the Macintosh HD on the left hand side?
If so;
Click on it
Under the first aid tab select "Verify Disk"
Even if this comes back saying its verified and all good, click "Repair Disk" After this
If everything is good after that try restarting
If it says that you need to backup your data and reformat the drive ect, we have to do a Erase and Install.

If you haven't got your data backed up you can get an external HDD install OSX onto it, then backup your files from that.
If you can't see anything on the left, the HDD is dead, or can't be mounted, head to an Apple Retail Store, or Service Provider, and if the data is important you can hit up a data recovery center. -
I just bought and used my apple tv. I tried renting a movie but was asked to go to my itunes to verify my info. In the process, I ended up renting the movie 2x and had to accept to be able to get the PLAY button to pop up on the screen. I watched to movie but do not want to be charged 2x for rental.

When updating my IOS 5.1.1 to IOS 6 and after the download completed the updating of the iphone couldn't be completed for unknown error and the device froze and all i have now is a black screen with an apple and a meter that shows no progress I can't switch off my iphone or do anything!!!

I had a similar problem last week with my nice shiny 3 week old iPhone 6. I noticed the Apple logo was on the screen, but it did not progress like a normal boot up. I restarted the phone, and it showed the Apple logo, then a red screen then cycled back to the logo and kept looping. I got the phone to the iTunes connection stage by keeping hold of the power button and the home button until the apple logo appeared then kept holding the home button. iTunes recognised the phone, and wanted to restore, but this was unsuccessful because the phone would keep looping to the red screen and iTunes failed. After loads of Apple support, I was told it was a hardware failure, and like you I live more than an hour away from the store. None the less, I made an appointment with the Genius bods, and they replaced the phone. They said they had never heard of the problem, but really, take a look at these forums and you will see that it is a common problem and I suspect they are keeping it under wraps...
My issue is that as a disappointed customer with faulty goods, why should i have to stick to an appointment to get it replaced? What other store would you have to do this?
The "Genius" didn't even want to see the phone powered up before offering a replacement... Oh, and it turned out they didn't have the exact same model as a replacement so they were going to send me out of the store empty handed.... I kicked off BIG time, and they very reluctantly gave me a phone from the sales stock, rather than the repairs stock..
Not a happy Apple customer anymore, and I feel the more people who know about the lack of service and customer care the better. They need to get off there high horse and join the real world! -

Movie Rentals and Purchases on IPad - What's wrong with this?
Bought my very first Apple product...(IPad 64G WiFi only) last week.
I intended to use it just to keep me busy reading, watching movies, playing games, on all the long flights to Europe and Asia that I take.
So yesterday I excitedly set up an ITunes account, and downloaded 4 movie rentals, and purchased one other movie (Angels and Demons). All HD. I just figure I'd let it run all night and I'd see the movies the next morning.
The rentals all appear to have downloaded, and they show up in the videos section. HOWEVER, they are ALL marked "Expires in 17 hours". Never started watching any of them, why are they already set to expire? The rental info section of Itunes says I have 30 days to start watching, then 24 hours after that til they expire.
As for the purchased movie, th it appeared stuck on the "tap to retry" icon, which I did several times, with repeated errors, until the download icon simply disappeared and no sign of the dowload status or the actual movie anywhere.
I DID get billed for all of these. This is like 40 bucks worth of stuff.
Everyone who uses MAC stuff always brags about how great it is, how excellent customer service is, how things just "work", etc.
Color me WAY not impressed. No answers to my emails sent through ITunes help (yes, I checked spam folder) and no movies for my flight to China this weekend.

Make certain the time and date are correct on your PC.
Click Start and then click Control Panel.
Click "Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options" and then click Date and Time.
Click the Date & Time tab.
Make sure that the date and time settings are configured to use the current date and time and then click OK.

You can report problems to Apple via the iTunes store. Launch iTunes. Select iTunes Store on the left. On the right side of that window select your account name. In the next window click: Purchase History then click: Report a Problem.

Make sure all of the videos used in the project that is having that problem are from the same event. If they are from multiple events, move them all into one event.

I keep getting an APPCRASH warning when trying to watch movies
I have been trying to watch movies through iTunes, one that I have downloaded. I can listen to any of my music but when I try and watch a movie it gives me the following warning, closes, and will not re-open until I restart my computer. Sounded like a good question to me but nobody seemed willing to respond. So... as I had never rented a movie, I decided to test the work flow on one of the $0.99 "specials" found on iTunes. For my test, I selected "Dark House." The 943.5 MB SD movie downloaded in about 8 minutes to the "Store/Downloads" area in the iTunes app on my older PPC computer—most likely a volatile cache area as I could not locate a physical file at the Finder level. In any case, it seems that if you select the file in the "iTunes/Downloads" tab, it appears you can play the file locally on the computer (later confirmed this). However, as I wanted to take advantage of the my ethernet connection to my main HDTV, I went to that TV2 device connected to it and checked it's local menu. Sure enough, I found the movie available in a newly added "Rentals" menu that now displayed between the "Music" and "Movies" sub-menus within my own iTunes Library menu.
Be advised that starting file takes a second or two of extra time each time the you quit/restart playback as it seems the movie must be "re-authorized" for the device each time. Further, the rental can only be played on one device at a time. That is, if you want to switch from the device to another, you must close the playback sub-menu for the current device before opening the file on an alternative device. In my case, I tested switching the movie back and forth between an TV2 device and the iTunes player.
Hope that answers your question as I plan to go and watch the move now. If nothing else, this was a learning experience for me. Quality was typical for the data rate and I had no problems viewing the content on my system. I also like the fact that chapter "descriptors" were used for this content rather than the default chapter numbers I normally use. -
When I use my IPhone 4S to view the Shaw Go Movie Central App when I am at home I only use WiFi which is automatic, I start watching a show and sometimes I will get a message like "you can not use your cellular for video playback" or something close to that. Then I received an email from Telus saying I had used my 3G instead of Wi-Fi using 75% of my data. How can this happen when I'm on Wi-Fi at home? If it switched to 3G for some reason I should have been disconnected and not just transferred to 3G network using up my data. What is the fix for this??
It doesn't have to be that complicated, Verizon iPhones come unlocked, just tell VZ you're going on Holiday/Traveling and suspend the service, no need to pay for service if you're not going to be using it. Pick up local SIM cards in the countries of your choosing, pop them in, re-activate iMessage and you're set!
I recommend getting a SIM card from the Three network in England, they have great EU roaming rates and free like-home roaming in Italy.
Set your phone's region to match the country you're in, it'll save from some headaches when calling local/international numbers.
To answer your questions,
1. If you choose not to have a local SIM card, it is good to keep your phone in Airplane mode to save battery.
2. Make sure the two iPhones have different names to reduce sync/restore issues.
3. If husband has an iPhone also, you can chat with iMessage/Facetime, just give him heads up about the new number you'll have. Otherwise, use Whatsapp if he's got an Android. You can activate Whatsapp with your American number or the international number if you choose to get a SIM in Europe.
Also, Get the MagicJack app and/or Google Hangouts, both of those apps provide you with free calling to the USA and Canada using any internet connection. Google Voice is another good way to SMS across the seas.

TVs don't support "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)", so you will probably have to use FAT32. To format the external drive, follow the same steps as you did to format it with "Mac OS Extended (Journaled), but in the erasing screen, select "MS-DOS (FAT)" as "Format". Note that FAT32 isn't compatible with files bigger than 4 GB. Also, you may have to format the external drive in a PC
