HT1657 Movie Rental Problems

I have rented a movie (monsters univeristy tonight)...we started to watch, it then accidenlty hit the menu button instead of pause.  Now it will not allow us to watch it...says it is downloading and i have purchased and go to settings/itunes/rental to download.  I select but the apple icon is not downloading anything.
We have turned off apple TV etc...but no luck with getting the movie back.

Hello hooliagoolia
If you were unable to watch your rental, then report the issue to the iTunes Store. Because of the time constraints on rentals, you are probably outside of the period to get it back.

  • IPhone movie rental problems

I rented a movie on my iPhone yesterday. This morning I connected my iPhone to my laptop and it synced with iTunes. When I did that it automatically removed the movie rental from my iPhone and has added it to 'Movies' (not rented movies) in iTunes. However, it will neither play in iTunes nor let me transfer it to the iPhone.
Suggestions? Anyone else have this issue?

I have the same problem and I am pretty steamed about it right now.
Movie can't be moved back to the iPhone.
Movie can't be played on the mac.
It's essentially in limbo. This is the second time today that DRM in one form or another has hosed me. I just want to watch my rented movie that I paid for!

  • HT1657 Movie Rentals (expiration and downloading)

I have been downloading a movie rental for two days and it still says there are 17 hours remaing but for some reason it says the rental expires in five hours.  I have not started to watch the movie since it isnt even finished downloading. Is there anything I can do since I already paid for the movie rental?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The first thing to check would be your internet download speed, you can do this at www.speedtest.net.
1080p HD movies require a recommended speed of 8 Mbps, 720p HD movies require a recommended speed of 6 Mbps, while SD movies require a recommended speed of 2.5 Mbps.
I'd be inclined to let the movie finish downloading and then you can be sure that it has expired or at least be more sure of the situation over it. If it has expired, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History on your computer.

  • Movie Rental Problems

Can't get movie rentals. I have just updated both my Apple TV software and itunes and still can't find where to book movie rentals. On my Apple TV in the 'Movie' section there are only 2 choices, Trailers and My Movies and when I check on my itunes on my mac under itunes store I can't find movies to rent on here either. I live in the UK, what is the problem and how can it be fixed. (p.s. the only movies on my itunes store is short films (itunes v 7.6.1)

UK does not have movie rentals.
only US itunes store has rentals.

  • IStore Movie Rental Problem

I rented a movie from iStore, it deducted the $ from my balance, then appeared to download - when I hit Play it gave me an "unknown error -42110" Help please.

A friend of mine has the exact same problem, but on a Mac. He can download and play music and TV shows from the iTunes Store, but when he completes a movie rental download, he gets no sound/image at all. Apple simply told him to uninstall iTunes and QuickTime altogether and reinstall them. He chose a refund instead because he did not want to risk thrashing his iTunes library in the process simply to watch a movie.
He used to be able to watch movie rentals before but was unable with the last two rentals over the last month or so.
    He is on a MacBook 13" Aluminum (late 2008), Snow Leopard 10.6.3, iTunes 9.1.1, QuickTime X (10.0) and 7.6.6.
Anyone with the same problem on a Mac who found a valid solution?

  • HT1657 Movie Rental: Download Time

I just clicked to download a movie rental, and it's going to take 10 hours. Is there a way to cancel the rental or shorten the time?

What does the error message say? (Include error message numbers if you're getting any, please.)

  • HT1657 Movie rental downloaded but nowhere to be found

I downloaded a movie rental but it does not appear in my downloads or library.
The movie in itunes store says it has been downloaded.
    Where is it??

    Click on LIBRARY on the top right;
    Select MOVIES from the drop down menu on the top left;
Click on RENTED on the top center.
It took me about an hour to find that out.
They should have a link from the iTunes Store, or explain what to do after we pay for the rental.

  • IPad Gen 1 Movie Rental problems

When I try to rent a movie from my iPad Gen 1, the rent and purchase icon are not lit up, and will therefore not allow me to rent or purchase. When I go to iTunes through my PC, the icons are fine, and I can rent it. But I haven't been able to transfer from my PC to the iPad, so that's not going to work. Are some movies unavailable to download to an iPad Gen 1?

This article indicates your iPad should be able to view all your rentals:
iTunes Store: Movie rental frequently asked questions (FAQ)
So the issue is likely with either your Apple ID not being the same on your iPad as it is on your PC's iTunes, or your not having the most current software (iOS 5.1.1 on your iPad, and iTunes 11.0.4 on your computer).

  • HT1657 movie rentals disappear

I just had a bunch of movie rentals completely disapepar off of my iPod and iTunes.   Why?  and how do I get them back?

Rentals have a limited life span.
30 days from the moment of purchase as long as you don;t start watching them.
or 24 hours once you start watching them.  (in some countries its 48 hours)
    Did they perhaps expire?

  • HT1657 Movie rental/download problems

Have rented a movie on my iPad and it will not play keeps coming up with " this format is not supported" any solutions.

I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the item, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.

  • HT1657 Movie rental! I know there are a lot of problems

I cannot watch my rental from iTunes! After I google it I'm not the only one and it's happened for years?!? I guess I wont be upgrading with apple!

I read that Mountain Lion slows down the system to a crawl and drains the battery.
Could be for them, who knows.
FWIW all of my systems run faster than Lion. Battery life is a tiny bit longer on the MacBooks.
Back up your system and if you don't like it, you could always revert. You'll be out all of $20.
I don't miss Lion, Snow Leopard, or any other OS X version, not a bit, and I have used every Mac OS there has ever been. If I preferred an earlier version, I'd be using it instead.

  • HT1657 Movie rentals

How do you transfer a downloaded rental movie from the computer to another device, Apple TV?

And if the movie was not rented via iPad but straight to MacBook?
I had the same problem - see post 'rented movie disappeared in hours? - below.

  • HT1725 Movie Rental Problem

I have rented a movie from my 5th generation iPod and my internet got turned off during the download,  now the movie will not download. In my rental movies the rental is shown as being grey'd out. When I try opening it there is a prompt "You have already rented this but it has not been downloaded - Go to downloads to manage your downloads", but when I do the rental is not showing up at all. It becomes an endless loop and I am very frustrated! Any help would be appreciated?

I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

  • HT1657 Movie Rental Download

I rented and downloaded the movie "Twilight".  It took about 20 minutes to download.  Now that it has stopped, I can't find the movie to view.  It's not in my movie section. How do I find the downloaded movie?  It seems not to be downloaded.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
There should be a rental section appear once you have a rental on the computer.

  • HT1657 Movie Rental - download and sync quesiton

I rented a movie and could not complete the download before having to leave on a trip.  When I returned, the movie wasn't available in my library on itunes.  I was billed for the rental.  How can I access the movie without being billed again.  It was only one week ago so its within the 30 day rental window.
    Thanks,

    Go here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/
and follow the instructions to report the issue to the iTunes Store. Note, however, that if you started to view the movie, the rental clock started and unless it was a very short trip has now expired in which case you'll have to buy the rental again.
    Regards.
