HT1657 movie rentals disappear

I just had a bunch of movie rentals completely disapepar off of my iPod and iTunes.   Why?  and how do I get them back?

Rentals have a limited life span.
30 days from the moment of purchase as long as you don;t start watching them.
or 24 hours once you start watching them.  (in some countries its 48 hours)
Did they perhaps expire?

    Hi mk112,
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you can't see the past movie and show purchases on your Apple TV, please make sure you are signed in with the Apple ID you used to purchase them.
Download past purchases - Apple Support
    Before you begin
Sign in with the Apple ID that you used for the original purchase. Use these steps to see which Apple ID you used to download an item.
See if the content is available for redownload. Previously purchased items might not be available if they're no longer on the iTunes Store. If you changed your Apple ID from one country to another, you can’t download items you purchased in a previous country.
If you're using Family Sharing, you can use these steps to download your family member's content.
Play previous purchases on Apple TV
    Movies and TV shows
On the Apple TV main menu, choose Movies > Purchased or TV Shows > Purchased.
Select the item you want to view.
    Choose Play.
    Take care,
    Nubz

  • My movie rental disappeared without watching it.

My movie rental disappeared. I had it on my iPad 2 for the past 10 days. I went to watch it today and suddenly it is gone. And I can't seem to get it back. It no longer appears in my history and it can't be found on my computer either. (I had never transferred it to my computer though .... I only had the rental on my iPad 2.)

Before we can answer, are you talking about iTunes? Or some other store?
If it's non-iTunes, contact the provider. Nothing we can do about it here.
If you rented it on iTunes, did you get an email confirming that? Did you begin to watch the rental? If so, you only get 24 hours in the USA to finish it (and 48 hours outside of USA).
    Here are the rules:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1657
If you didn't, and you have the email receipt from Apple, there's a link under every purchase that says "Report a Problem." Click on that, and explain what happened. They can tell if you started the movie, so don't expect a positive resolution if you started it.

  • ITunes Movie Rentals disappear from iPhone a day after transfer from Mac

OK, this has happened to me twice now. Here's the scenario:
I have a long, international flight. I rent multiple movies so that I can have films to watch both to and from the destination.
I browse for the movies on my Mac (OS X Lion, current release)
I rent four movies on my Mac.
I then transfer them, one at a time, to my iPhone--a 4S with 5.0.1. (I do this because in earlier releases, a movie would sometimes disappear if I tried to sync more than one movie at a time).
After it's done, I see four movies listed on myiPhone in the Videos app.
About 2 days later, I look at iTunes and decide to load some audiobooks. I look at the Movies tab and it shows only one rental movie on the iPhone, the last movie transferred. The other three movies are nowhere: they do not show as on the Mac or on the Phone.
I check the phone. Only the one movie is present.
At no point did I start to play any of the movies. It appears that the first three rental movies transferred disappeared from the phone as if they expired 24 hours after the transfer.
And--just to make it fun--this is the second time the exact same scenario has played out. I had a long international flight at the end of September and on iOS 4 the same thing happened before that flight. All but the last movie transferred vanished from the phone after a day.
Anyone else run into this issue?
FYI: I have contacted support to see if I can get a credit for the "lost" rentals. But as of now I'm afraid to transfer rented movies to my phone.

Yep.  Me too. Getting ready to fly overseas. My iTunes on my computer says they are on my iPad, but they aren't. How does that work when I can't 'find them' anywhere on my iPad?
    3 rentals lost.

  • Movie Rentals Disappeared?

So I have two movie rentals that I had previously transferred to my iPhone, tonight I rented a third movie, and it transferred to my phone just fine, but when I went to the video section the two movies I previously rented showed briefly and then disappeared. They're still showing up in my iTunes, both have 18 days remaining, I've tried to transfer them from my phone to my computer (so that I could then try transferring them back) but then it says it can't do it cause it can't connect to the iTunes store. I've rented movies and transferred them to my phone since iTunes started doing it, my iPhone and iTunes are both up to date, I want to avoid doing a restore (since the rented movies are technically still on my phone and not my computer I'm worried I'd lose them, plus I've done enough restores for crappy little problems its kind of a frustrating process). Anyone else had/heard of this problem?

Same problem, tried renting 3 random movies the last week... rented Shame TWICE, after 3-5 seconds, it disappeared from the top-left corner on the main menu. When trying to purchase again, got a message saying that I already purchased it but didn't download it, and told me to "check for rentals".
Did everything possible, including restoring, nothing worked.
Called Apple Support just to have them say its a hardware problem. I replied with "I have 3 Apple TVs at my home and ALL of them is having the same bug".
Told me to call iTunes Support >  No solution so far.
    I'm getting tired of this.

  • HT1657 Movie Rental: Download Time

I just clicked to download a movie rental, and it's going to take 10 hours. Is there a way to cancel the rental or shorten the time?

What does the error message say? (Include error message numbers if you're getting any, please.)

  • HT1657 Movie rental downloaded but nowhere to be found

I downloaded a movie rental but it does not appear in my downloads or library.
The movie in itunes store says it has been downloaded.
    Where is it??

    Click on LIBRARY on the top right;
    Select MOVIES from the drop down menu on the top left;
Click on RENTED on the top center.
It took me about an hour to find that out.
They should have a link from the iTunes Store, or explain what to do after we pay for the rental.

  • My movie rental disappeared

I accidentally hit the MENU button on the apple tv remote while watching a movie I rented and then I was unable to go back to it. I looked in in settings under "check for rentals" and it kept searching and searching with no results.

To find your missing movie rental :
Go to settings >   General  > iTunes Store >  Check For Rentals.
    -  Reset your Apple TV
    -  Update  your  Apple TV software to the latest one.
    -  Sign in  Sign out your account.
    -  Unplug your Apple TV for  30 to 50 seconds

  • HT1657 Movie Rentals (expiration and downloading)

I have been downloading a movie rental for two days and it still says there are 17 hours remaing but for some reason it says the rental expires in five hours.  I have not started to watch the movie since it isnt even finished downloading. Is there anything I can do since I already paid for the movie rental?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The first thing to check would be your internet download speed, you can do this at www.speedtest.net.
1080p HD movies require a recommended speed of 8 Mbps, 720p HD movies require a recommended speed of 6 Mbps, while SD movies require a recommended speed of 2.5 Mbps.
I'd be inclined to let the movie finish downloading and then you can be sure that it has expired or at least be more sure of the situation over it. If it has expired, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History on your computer.

  • HT1657 My rental disappeared before I watched the movie and before it expired. Where did it go and how do I find it

Rented movie and now its gone. I did not watch it nor was it expired. How do I recover it or get my money ack for it!

If it's no longer on the device/computer that you rented it on then did you start watching it, if only for a few seconds ? If not then you could try the 'report a problem' page to contact iTunes Support : http://reportaproblem.apple.com
If the 'report a problem' link doesn't work then you can try contacting iTunes Support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • HT1657 Movie rentals

How do you transfer a downloaded rental movie from the computer to another device, Apple TV?

And if the movie was not rented via iPad but straight to MacBook?
I had the same problem - see post 'rented movie disappeared in hours? - below.

  • Movie rentals disappear several days after transferring to iPad.

I'm having a repeating problem where I rent iTunes movies on my laptop and then transfer them to my iPad but the movies disappear from the iPad after several days. They do not reappear on my laptop, nor do they show as expired. They are literally just gone without warning. This is always inside the 30 day rental period and without opening them. I'm aware of the 24-hour rule and that is not the problem. They literally just vanish.
iTunes customer service has been good about restoring credits to my account for missing movies, but they are clueless as to why it is happening. I am running the latest OS versions on my laptop (mid 2012 Mac Book Pro) and iPad 2. Everything is up to date.
The first time this happened it was curiousity; now that it's happened multiple times I am DONE with iTunes rentals until there is a solution. The tipping point was when the customer service person emailed me and suggested I use the fee-based support system to work directly with an Apple tech specialist.
Really? Are you suggesting that I should PAY YOU to fix a broken system just so to once again have the opportunity to PAY YOU to watch movies? I don't think so...
I'm a die hard Apple user/owner but the suggestion that I pay them to find a software bug...just so I then can give them more money (in the form of rentals)...ridiculous. That's what's called "adding insult to injury."
I really would like to see this resolved, but I'm switching to Amazon rentals in the mean time.
Has anyone else experienced a similar issue?

When I go to this screen it says the movie is on the right side. I apply the changes. After the sync, it says it is on the Ipad. However it is not on the ipad. I've had the Ipad2 since it came out. THis is the first time this has happened.
The Django Unchained Movie being stuck on the Ipad without seeing it on the ipad is old news. I thought I got it off. It's still on there.

  • HT1657 Movie Rental Download

I rented and downloaded the movie "Twilight".  It took about 20 minutes to download.  Now that it has stopped, I can't find the movie to view.  It's not in my movie section. How do I find the downloaded movie?  It seems not to be downloaded.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
There should be a rental section appear once you have a rental on the computer.

  • HT1657 Movie Rental - download and sync quesiton

I rented a movie and could not complete the download before having to leave on a trip.  When I returned, the movie wasn't available in my library on itunes.  I was billed for the rental.  How can I access the movie without being billed again.  It was only one week ago so its within the 30 day rental window.
    Thanks,

    Go here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/
and follow the instructions to report the issue to the iTunes Store. Note, however, that if you started to view the movie, the rental clock started and unless it was a very short trip has now expired in which case you'll have to buy the rental again.
    Regards.

  • HT1390 Movie rental disappeared on iTunes

    (last sunday Oct / 21st)
2nd time I rented a movie called Safe House through iTunes and magically it disappeared!
    Just some notes:
    1) I have: apple tv 1st gen, an apple tv 2nd gen and an iPhone 4S. Just checked and it is not there
    2) I am quite positive I did not start the movie on iTunes or any other device. Nobody would do that as well.
    3) I have rented it on iTunes (computer - PC runing vista)
Would it be possible to check and possibly queue the movie again?

I have been browsing "Account" juyst to check it was really confirmed the debit on my iTunes account.
When I went into my "Account" on itunes - main screen - the item was there with a status: "You have 1 item waiting to be dowloaded!"
I just confirmed the "download" and it is all fine.
Quite awkward given that one would not intuitively access this menu - account- to sort this kind of issue!!!!
Have seen several question on this issue: my reccomendation for those having trouble in not finding rented movies is to also "account" and see if your item is there.
