HT1657 Rented movie on itunes won't play on mac pro

I rented a movie today and it won't play on my macbook pro.  Any ideas?  I have rented and purchased movies in the past and have never had a problem viewing them.

I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the item, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.

Rented movie in iTunes and it won't download. It has been downloading for 2 hours now.

  • HT1657 Renting movies from iTunes without in-home Internet

I don't have Internet at home. Can I download the movie on my laptop and watch it at home later or is the movie streaming?

Rented movies are downloaded and once completely downloaded should play without an Internet connection.  But in some cases, the common factor of which I have yet to determine from the various reports, iTunes insists on connecting to the iTunes Store when you go to play the rental. So while it's probable that you will have no difficulties, you may not be able to play the rental when you get home.

  • Rented movies on iTunes will not play?

I rented a move on iTunes and in the middle of the movie I paused it and when I preset play the movie was still not playing? I runing the latest version of iTunes.

Do the movies move but not play? Or do they not move? If you can post more details, including your model of iPhone and the OS version it's running and the version of iTunes you have, perhaps someone here can help you sort out the problem.
As to contacting the iTunes Store, you can contact the iTunes Store Customer Service department using the form on their Support page (select the category and subcategory closest to the issue you're reporting and you'll find an "Email Us" button). But they'll probably have you go through troubleshooting steps first, so you might want to do so here, which is often easier and more helpful, before you contact the iTunes Store.
    Regards.

  • Rented movie in iPad won't play in Apple TV 2

Today I rented Unstoppable in my iPad form the iTunes Store, the idea was to use airplay to send it to my Apple TV 2 and view it on my TV.
Every time I try to use Airplay to stream the movie from my Ipad the Apple TV 2 returns the message that is not authorize to play the content from the iPad.
Anybody have any idea how to fix this?, I am using the Apple HDMI cable and both devices are login to the same Apple ID. I have restore to factoring settings my Apple TV 2 and restarted my iPad several times, I also have log out of my Apple ID and log back in in both devices.
Do not know what else to try any help would be appreciates.
    Thanks on advance WFGE

It is supposed to function as i described (true/false?)
False, per the link provided above:
"If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer."  The only way to transfer a rented movie is if you rent it from your computer, and then it can be moved around to other devices but (a) it can only exist on one device at a time, and (b) you cannot move it to Apple TV 2 or 3.  It is odd that you can't do what you want, but I'm not a lawyer ;)

i'm renting SD movies from iT so copyright issues are in the full control of AAPL on all AAPL devices
I don't know the legal agreements between Apple and movie studios, but with a rental you don't own the material so I suspect that is the difference.  With a purchase you're given some leeway that you don't have with a rental.

Your original post mentioned that purchases worked, not rentals.  Have you ever seen a rental stream from your i-device to Apple TV?  I wouldn't think so, given Apple's statement above.

All other streaming functions from iP and iPh to ATV; music, photos, and home-made video function
These would not be subject to the same copyright issues as a movie.
You can try taking this up with Apple, and depending on who you communicate with (and your approach) may determine your success to get a refund.  Apple does state that you can't stream a movie from your device to ATV, but perhaps not clearly enough (which you might use to your advantage).

  • Rented Movies from iTunes won't transfer to Apple Tv

    Hey guys,
I'm on a pc...I know it's a swear word hear but I'm trying so hard to talk the wife into an iMac...getting close..LOL. Anyway, I've rented a couple movies via iTunes on my pc (running vista...cough cough..hack hack!!) and can't transfer them to my apple tv. When I click on the apple tv in the device column I only get summary and photo tabs. All the software for iTunes and Apple Tv are up to date and I have also deauthorized and reauthorized my itunes libary. Can anyone offer some help to get these to my apple tv. I really don't want to watch them on my computer screen.
    Thanks
    Stephan

    Morning athos441,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
The black unit is the 2nd or 3rd gen Apple TV.
The 1st gen Apple TV (silver) is the one that you can move things over to the internal HD on the Apple TV.
For more information on this, take a look at this article:

  • Rented movie on iTunes which stops playing then disappeared

I rented captain America this evening. Approximately 12 minutes in it froze. I force quit iTunes and restarted the computer. The rented movie was not showing up in iTunes upon restart. I rented it again and started watching it again. Same thing happened. This time I ran software update. Again, the movie would not show up under the "rentals" folder in iTunes. Tried searching in "movies", "purchases", etc. No luck.
    Anyone have any ideas?

Make sure your itunes and quicktime are updated.
Also, I'm pretty sure you need to be connected to the internet to be able to play a rental.
If you're still having issues...try emailing into itunes support. They usually have good advise on how to fix something like that and they'll usually let you redownload the rental if it dissapered on you.

  • HD movie from iTunes will not play on Mac Mini

Having bought an HD movie from iTunes I can not play it on my Mac Mini.
Just get audio and Grey and white grid.  Controls are there but invisible. Why?
It will play on my Macbook Air?
I hve got no help from iTune support!
    Thanks

I spoke to Apple Care today and they told me to reset the VIdeo Card preferences by re-starting the mini whilst holding down command/Alt/P/R until a second start tone sounded.  It seemed to sort out my problem.
But the real reason why it worked was that I had plugged in a keyboard and was not controling the Mini using Screen sharing (via Macbook Air) as I normally do. As soon as I went back to screen sharing the movie would not play again.
So if you are playing movies on a mini don't control using screen sharing.

  • Rented video from iTunes won't play

I rented a movie and it keeps stopping at the same spot.  Help?

My problem was that I was renting from iTunes directly from my iPad, it was suggested to rent from my computer and then sync.  It solved the issue.  I had to re-rent the movie again though.

  • HD Movies in iTunes won't play. What can anybody suggest?

Does anybody know how to resolve the issue of itunes not playing hd video's that were downloaded on itunes?
    Thanks

Perhaps you downloaded the videos some time ago.  This might help:

  • I rented an iTunes movie, but it won't play on my MacBook

I rented an iTunes movie, but it won't play on my MacBook. All software is updated and current.

Hi I had this problem and tried all the usual deauthorize and the mini player fixes but they did not work for me. What worked in the end was I reset the play count on the movie (right click on the movie under the rented section of your library). I have no idea why this worked but it did.

What did you use to download it with? iPad? iPhone? Computer?
If it's an iPad/iPhone, play it using the videos app.
If on the computer, look on the left side of iTunes in the library under movies.

    Yes there is.
Go to the iTunes Store on your computer.  Click the "Purchased" link about halfway down on the far right side.  Click the "All" tab on top.  The song is there.  Re-download it.
