Thank you for responding to my problem so promptly. Frankly, I did not expect to hear from people so soon! The fact is that as soon as I posted the question, I was shown a number of similar queries and managed to find the answer. I have to say it's not intuitive! I have an apple TV original version. Apparently I had the ATV on streaming and not syncing. Streaming does not allow you to stream a rental from your computer whereas you can sync and transfer the rental from the computer!

When I use my IPhone 4S to view the Shaw Go Movie Central App when I am at home I only use WiFi which is automatic, I start watching a show and sometimes I will get a message like "you can not use your cellular for video playback" or something close to that. Then I received an email from Telus saying I had used my 3G instead of Wi-Fi using 75% of my data. How can this happen when I'm on Wi-Fi at home? If it switched to 3G for some reason I should have been disconnected and not just transferred to 3G network using up my data. What is the fix for this??

It doesn't have to be that complicated, Verizon iPhones come unlocked, just tell VZ you're going on Holiday/Traveling and suspend the service, no need to pay for service if you're not going to be using it. Pick up local SIM cards in the countries of your choosing, pop them in, re-activate iMessage and you're set!
I recommend getting a SIM card from the Three network in England, they have great EU roaming rates and free like-home roaming in Italy.
Set your phone's region to match the country you're in, it'll save from some headaches when calling local/international numbers.
To answer your questions,
1. If you choose not to have a local SIM card, it is good to keep your phone in Airplane mode to save battery.
2. Make sure the two iPhones have different names to reduce sync/restore issues.
3. If husband has an iPhone also, you can chat with iMessage/Facetime, just give him heads up about the new number you'll have. Otherwise, use Whatsapp if he's got an Android. You can activate Whatsapp with your American number or the international number if you choose to get a SIM in Europe.
Also, Get the MagicJack app and/or Google Hangouts, both of those apps provide you with free calling to the USA and Canada using any internet connection. Google Voice is another good way to SMS across the seas.

TS1702 Twice now rented and downloaded movie to view on flights. When I tried to view on the plane i got a message that it could not be loaded. But when I got to destination, it was okay. Any ideas.

This is in the iPad's Videos app ? If you turn Settings > Airplane Mode 'on' are you able to watch them in the Videos app now ?

If you rented it on your Mac's iTunes then it should have downloaded into the Movies part of your iTunes library - if you select that, then is there a 'rentals' tab on it with the film in it ?

In the Settings > General > Usage > Photos & Camera section you should be able to swipe across the 'Camera Roll' and/or 'Photo Library' lines and they should get a Delete button appear on them - that will then delete all of the photos that you've taken with the iPad (andcopied to it via the camera connection kit and/or saved from emails/websites), or all of the photos that you've synced from your computer (the 'photo library' line).

I used to be able to view all cloud and downloaded content. I no longer can.

There used to be option to show items that are in the cloud in your library, but I can't find where that now is (unless it's been removed). You should be able to see what items that you can re-download via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page (at the top right of that there should be a 'not on this computer' button)

I think mine are all still in alphabetical order, but :
* movies I deleted from my library and told "hide this purchase in the cloud" are showing up again. If I try to play them, I get the "cannot find the file in its proper location, would you like to locate it" error message.
* for movies that have "iTunes Extras," the extras show up as a separate item, with another copy of the movie artwork. Most of these I believe I had DELETED the "iTunes Extras" anyway.
* Items are showing up multiple times.
* A few MUSIC ALBUMS are listed in my Movies section.
* Some movies (I believe ones that I deleted off my HD but are still in the cloud) are showing random album covers instead of their proper artwork.
* Just rented a movie, and it didn't show up anywhere in my library. It downloaded properly and completely, was in a suitably labeled folder in my iTunes/Media/Movies section, but didn't show up in any section of the library (or via a library search). Had to manually find it and tell it to open the file using iTunes.
Running the latest version, even checked for updates. No other changes made lately since the last round of apple software updates. This was wonky before the latest small update to iTunes - now it's even wonkier. And it is very, VERY effing annoying.

Buying TV Shows and Movies on Apple TV

Up until now, I have been watching rented and purchased movies / TV by downloading to my iPad and then hooking my iPad 2 to my TV with an HDMI adapter. I decided to get Apple TV as my husband will be traveling on business for the next week and is taking my iPad with him.
I installed the Apple TV last night and got it configured with my wifi, Apple ID / iTunes ID, billing info, etc. I then tried to purchase a TV series. It appeared to work (asked me to confirm my billing, etc.). However, when I looked, it didn't show up in my Apple TV purchased items. I thought that maybe I have to wait until at least one episode has fully downloaded. But I checked my iTunes account today, and it doesn't show that anything is available to download, and I haven't received a receipt (though I often get those several days after purchasing, so that doesn't surprise me).
Am I missing something here? The instructions with the Apple TV imply that you can purchase and download straight to Apple TV (without using AirPlay from iPad or Home Share from computer) - but it is very vague. I am trying to avoid having to use another device - I use iTunes on my work computer (not home laptop) and as I mentioned, I will not have my iPad available next week. Am I going to have to install iTunes on my laptop and do Home Share?

If you have a half-way decent Internet connection, it should have displayed on your TV within minutes afterwards. I can't explain what happened.

Cant watch a Rented and downloaded a movie from Itunes on airplane

I recented read that I could rent and download a movie to my IPAD for viewing later. I did this and planned to watch on my international flight. When I tried to watch the movie Itunes wanted to connect over the internet 1st, since I had no internet on the plane I was not able to view my rented movie. You do not need Internet access to watch on rental movie on the iPad if you are offline. Are you certain that the movie completely downloaded?
Assuming that the movie downloads completely to the iPad you do not need a WiFi connection to watch it.

Upgrade australians itunes so we can dowload tv show and movies

I was just browsing the itunes in usa and couldn't download TV shows or movies and on top of that its not even available in Australia I mean the shows are out over here and I cant download them correction not even available on tunes why cant we have some equality around here I mean if you can’t view material from other countries and yet we can surf to official websites in other countries then why can't we buy them I mean we pay for the item in the end. Anyway, I hope one of the people who made itunes can fix this problem because I think that would be the best upgrade

As I told you on your other post, the copyright holders for TV content is Australia must allow Apple to distribute TV content in the Oz store. Until the copyright holder allow that, there is nothing Apple can do.
