Try deleting the problematic file (electing to remove original file if/when prompted) and then re-downloading the file from the iTunes store.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option at the bottom of the screen of the iTunes app (or video app) on your iOS device.
If the problem re-occurs, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History using your computer.

    The movie I rented stops 15 minutes in. What can I do?

    I to have this problem... .  can use every bit of the apple tv, and rent a movie.  But content would not load.  I finally got the content to load and it plays to the last 8 min and then spins up like it is spooling.... which its not.
    Had to restart movie and got just past previous stopping point and froze again........  Was thinking of dropping direct tv and going with apple tv and netflix.... Not now.... all updates done on computer and apple tv....   Come on apple lets get the bugs out.

    I rent this movie from Apple TV movies section. I clicked rent and watch now, but it said "I have already rented this item but it has not been downloaded. To download it, go to the Settings menu, select Downloads, then Check for Downloads." First, there is no Setting memu under Movies, I went to the main memu Settings, there is no Download memu. So, I checked iTunes Store, Check For Rentals, it's loading forever, no result either. I just want to know where can find the movie I rent??????

    if you log out of your apple itunes accound and then log back in again it should work - it should appear in a separate 'Rentals' section of the movies page.

    If you rented and downloaded it on your computer's iTunes then it should be in the Movies part of your library - is there a Rentals tab in Movies ?
    If on an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch then it should be in the Videos app. If you can't find it in there, nor via the device's spotlight search screen, then have you got a film age rating set in Settings > General > Restrictions that is hiding it ?

    No. Netflix is solely a streaming service and does not provide downloads. If you want downloaded movies, buy or rent from the iTunes Store. Note that in some cases people have found that rented movies still require connection to the ITunes Store to play, for reasons I have yet to figure out, so purchases are safer.
