HT1657 Why does my down load take so long

How can I get iTunes tunes to download movies faster?

Hi Hantz,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
The amount of time it takes to download your purchase will vary according to the file's size and your Internet connection speed.
For more information on this, take a look at this article:

    It's about 4GB, from memory, and the download speed can be affected from things like site traffic or variations in speed from your own ISP. But in general, it IS a very large download. Also never put your trust in a computer telling you how much time is left to download. As you can see, it recalculates everything more often and more quickly than the Tax Department! (Oh, and don't watch it. You know the old saying)

  • Why does downloading from iCloud take so long now?

    I've been using Match since it was released. I'm used to the download times required for hour-length albums, playlists, and hi-def TV programs.
    My memory is that a year ago, downloading an hour-long music album that was bought on iTunes in iTunes Plus format (256Kbs) took abouit 5-10 mins. So why does it now take ONE HOUR?!?
    Likewise, my memory is that a year ago, downloading an hour-long hi-def TV episode that was bought on iTunes took abouit 20-30 mins. So why does it now take TWO HOURS?!?
    My infrastructure is the same: broadband connection with over 100Mbps down, iPhone 4s, iPad 3.
    WHY has downloading from Match gotten SO SLOW on iOS devices? On my new iMac it is blazing fast. And a year ago, it was rather quick (as detailed above).
    Anyway who has info on this, would greatly appreciate seeing it posted. Thanks.

    You need to provide more detail. What do you mean by "a long time?" Are you charging it plugged into a wall socket?

  • Why does emptying the garbage take so long now? It has greatly slowed down my workflow.

    Before Mountain Lion and maybe even Lion came out emptying the trash was instantaneous... What the **** happened. Now if my hardrive gets full and I have a **** load of stuff to remove it takes HOURS to do so. This is ridiculous, why does it take so long to delete something?

    Have you checked the option to Empty the Trash Securely? That will slow it down significantly.

  • WHY DOES THIS DOWN LOAD CRAP KEEP RELOADING

    YOU ADDED DOWNLOADS CRAP THIS WEEK FOR THE TOP OF THE SCREEN. I KEEP REMOVING THEM (THE WAY FIREFOX TELLS ME TO) AND THEY KEEP RELOADING. Without further details, it's unlikely anyone here will be able to help you, either.

  • Why does SECURE EMPTY TRASH take so long (several days)?

    I am using OS 10.3.9. I didn't empty the trash for quite a while, and several days ago clicked SECURE EMPTY TRASH. The emptying process began but has not finished even now! Does it take THAT much longer when one uses SECURE EMPTY TRASH? I see that the little message window for Trash says:
    Item to delete: 114,158 This number hasn't gone down now for several minutes.
    Several times I have stopped the Empty Trash process to shut the computer down or just because I wanted to stop it, but it seem to me that after "Emptying the Trash" has been going on for so long, it ought to be finished by now. I welcome any sunlight you can shed on this. Thank you.

    When you choose to Secure Empty Trash, the system
    must overwrite the area where those items area a
    minimum of 7 times for it to be considered secure.
    When you have that many files in the Trash, this can
    take quite some time.
    So, unless you have something that is confidential in
    the Trash, your best option is to Empty Trash
    normally.

    OK, and thank you. You have answered my question; I now won't be worrying that something is awfy. The Secure Empty Trash is still emptying and it is down to about 77,000 items. I have clicked the YES, MY QUESTION HAS BEEN ANSWERED button and I appreciate your reassurance.

  • Why does Clear All History take so long?

    I like to clear my browse history frequently (daily). With recent releases, this takes a very long time. I frequently get an "Unresponsive script" warning. The message is:
    A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responnding. You can stop the script
    now. or you can continue to see if the script will complete.
    Script: chrome://browser/content/sanitize.js:133
    Why is this taking so long?

    Are you doing that via History > Clear Recent History ?
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Clear+Recent+History
    Are you only clearing the history or are you clearing more items (cookies, cache)?<br />
    If you clear more items then try to select only one of them to see if you can isolate the cause.
    You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox Profile Folder.

  • Why does deleting a photo take so long?

    Every time I delete a photo, Aperture stops, the pointer turns into a beach ball and about 5-10 seconds later, the single picture is deleted. Why is this happening? It's really tedious when you are trying to delete a number of pictures.

    Rick Lang wrote:
    I do believe Apple strongly recommends your Aperture Library be on an internal drive. Physically it will run on an external drive but it is not recommended. You may have some other large files that could be relocated to an external drive so you can put Aperture on the internal drive.
    Aperture 3 is adept at handling multiple Aperture Libraries so you might consider breaking up your large library into a few smaller libraries. Perhaps one library per calendar year?
    Within the running Aperture 3 program you can easily switch between multiple libraries but the libraries you are using most (such as your "Aperture 2010 Library" for example) should be on an internal drive. I suspect Aperture 3 is doing more behind-the-scenes work than iPhoto and that will make a difference in performance especially if the libraries are external.
    Your thoughts?
    Thanks for your comments. Seems to me that I should be able to store the library externally, but I called Apple to ask. They said you can, but that USB is not recommended, so I am going to try using my firewire drive instead and see if that helps. Also think I may try splitting my library into two parts. I understand that it's easy to switch to the other and that can help performance, but Apple felt strongly that the firewire was a much better option. Didn't think it mattered for pictures, but I guess it does.
    Using the internal is really not that easy. Don't know where all the space goes, but my documents and pictures only account for about 16gb. Apps take 15gb. Music 30gb. That's 61gb out of 320gb, but I only have 87gb available. Where does it go???
    I will report back...

  • Why does my Macbook Pro take so long to go to sleep?

    I have a mid 2012 15' Macbook Pro with retina display and I'm having problems with it going to sleep mode. This laptop was used for a few months by my brother before me and he had no problems with this, and neither did I have it until a few days ago. When I close the lid of my laptop and reopen it within 30 seconds, only the display has turned off (while the lid is closed), but after reopening the lid the laptop would go to sleep about 5 seconds later. This also happens when I use the power button and choose the sleep option. It'll then take a minute to go to sleep.
    I've made no major changed to the settings recently bit I do use an app called InsomniaX (version 2.0.1) that can stop the laptop from entering sleep more while closing the lid. I don't know if its the app that's causing this or not. I've used it for 2 weeks before the problem started. I've tried deleting and reinstalling the latest version of the app (2.1.3a) and the problem persists on both instances. And of course the problem persists even if the app is closed so I know that its not because of the "disable lid sleep" option of the app.
    I know that this question has been posted before of my other sites as well but I could not find a problem that was close to mine. Any sort of help would be appriciated. Thank you.

    I have that issue aswell (not all the time, but sometimes).  Check for InsomniaX updates, I have InsomniaX aswell, and I am convinced it is the root of the problem.  Alo try restarting InsomniaX.  Click on it's Icon, go down to quit, and go through the ring-roll of it informing you the world will end if you quit.  Then go into Spotlight, type in InsomniaX, and open it up again.  You might also have to reenter your settings inside InsomniaX, if you haven't ticked the box for 'Save states on exit'

  • Why does my apple tv take so long to download tv shows

    Having trouble with tv shows that I purchased not downloading to apple tv.  Read on one post about going into the gateway of the router and changing a setting that should make it work. We have Comcast and it said that there's an issue with Comcast and Apple tv.  Never had this problem before and don't have any problems with other things like Hulu or Netflix just apple tv.  Did the change recommended through the Gateway and it seemed to work that night but the following night it's the same thing all over again.  Called and was on the phone with Comcast and checked the settings and they're the right settings that we changed it to the night before but for some reason it's not doing any good anymore.  I've not seen any real answers to this problem.  Anyone know of a sure fix for this.  It's getting really annoying.

    The issue is with the network. Netflix and Hulu adapt to your connection whereas iTunes content is fixed and need to load a portion before playback begins.
    Check current connection, use speedtest.net
    Make sure DNS is set to automatic (settings - general - network)
    If on wifi try ethernet
    Go to istumbler.net to get a report of the network, look for signal strength and noise.
    Comcast have been known to throttle connections so you may want to look into that as well.

  • Why does a simple save take so long?

    I am using FM 11. I have 18 files with lots of figures and perhaps this is part of my issue. It seems to take between 1 and 2 minutes every time I save. Is there some setting or some trick I can use to shorten the time FM takes to save my book or chapter? Thanks.

    > Files are not growing with each save ...
    That rules out recursive Text Inset imports (that import themselves). Your problem is apt to "merely" be instances of copy-into-document.
    If you need to hunt, save the document as MIF and open it with a plain text editor.
    All imports contain the tag:
    <ImportObject
    By-Reference Imports look like (EPS example):
    <ImportObject
       <ImportObFileDI `<u\><u\><c\>path<c\>filename.eps'>
       <ImportObFile `../../path/filename.eps'>
    Copy-Into Imports lack those <ImportOB... tags, and look like (EPS and TIF examples):
      <ImportObject
       <Unique 3288853>
       <Fill 7>
       <Separation 0>
       <ObColor `Black'>
       <RunaroundGap  6.0 pt>
       <RunaroundType Contour>
    =TIFF
      <ImportObject
       <Unique 3288835>
       <Fill 7>
       <RunaroundGap  6.0 pt>
       <RunaroundType Contour>
    =EPSI
    followed by metadata and thousands of lines of hex code.
    Clue: the original file name of the imported object can often be found in the meta, but the presentation varies with file type.
    Alas, as you can see with
    select object in frame
    Graphics > Object Properties,
    Frame pretty much forgets what an import was, and where it came from, when (*) Copy Into is used. Big problem for information stewardship, not to mention capacity planning.

  • TS3276 Why does Mail 6.2 takes so long to receive emails?

    I've tested other email clients, and they all receive emails instantaneously. But for some reason, Mail takes about 10 minutes to receive a new email from the time that it was originally sent.

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
    (Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 &amp; above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
    In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
    If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
    Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
    If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:
