HT1660 If I view a previous itunes library, will it delete/replace my current library?

If I choose to view a previous itunes library, will it delete or replace my current library? I deleted a bunch of songs, and I'm hoping to be able to view them in a previous library.

No. It should not affect your data. But it's a good idea to backup.

  • HT1473 How do I sync new purchased music onto my ipod without deleting/replacing with current library. I recently changed computers and new library doesnt have any of my playlists either.

    Hi All:
I recently got a new computer, authorized new one with itunes and when I go into my library it has none of my playlists that I originally created. Also, I purchased new songs on itunes and as I did in the past, I connected my ipod Nano to automatically sync to get the new music and hopefully all my playlists would go into my itunes library and I received a message asking am I sure I want to delete all my ipod contents and replace with library contents? I canceled and dont want to loose my existing ipod collection as I have more songs on there than my itunes library plus my playlists are all on my ipod.  What I want to do is sync new songs to ipod and sync my playlists from ipod to my itunes library.
    Please help!!
    Thank you so much!
    Michelle

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you purchased all songs in the iTunes Store, plug your iPod to your Mac or PC and iTunes will ask you to transfer purchases.
If you didn't purchase any song or you have non-purchased songs from the iTunes Store, you have to use an application to transfer the songs to iTunes. Here is a list of applications you can use for that > https://discussions.apple.com/message/11319208#11319208

  • I downloaded version 11 for the itunes library and updated my ipod to ios6, today when I click to open itunes, it wont open and says I need to reinstall itunes. Will I lose my whole music library?

I downloaded version 11 on itunes and updated my ipod to os6, when I try to open itunes now, it says it downloaded incorrectly and won't open. It says to reinstall itunes. Will I lose my whole music library if I reinstall itunes?

you will not loose your content at all. It is still sitting in your hard drive even if you uninstall itunes.
Once itunes will be reinstalled , it will re-sync your stuff on your hard drive

  • If I sync my iPhone to a new iTunes library, will it delete all my contacts even if Music is the only thing checked to sync?

So I got a new MBP and want to sync my iPhone 4s to it, however a pop up keeps coming up and warning me that I will delete something.
I only have my music checked to sync but the pop up still appears...
If I sync, will I lose all my contacts, pictures, etc?
    Thank you.

Creating a wholly new AppleID and then using it to set up a new iTunes account will not delete the older AppleID's account history.  It will remain, and remain tied to that AppleID.
The new AppleID and iTunes account will have no history until you start buying apps with it.  ALL of your previous purchases made with the old AppleID remain, forever, with that AppleID.  They cannot be transferred or merged to another AppleID.
Any photos you have are not tied to any AppleID in the first place so will remain on your computer in whatever program you transfer your photo's to.  If you use photostream in iCloud, that is tied to the iCloud account, which in turn is tied to the AppleID used to create the account.  It too cannot be closed, deleted or merged with another.  Photostream only stores photos for 30 days though (it is intended merely to move photos amongst your associated or linked devices - it is not permanent storage), so they will eventually be deleted from that old account.
You could enable photostream on a new iCloud account if you wished to.

  • I don't have very much space left on my iCloud backup. I had a previous iPhone, my current iPhone and my iPad that are all connected to one cloud. Can I delete the backup from my previous iPhone? Will it delete in the cloud AND on the phone?

I had a previous iPhone, my current iPhone and my iPad that are all connected to one cloud. Can I delete the backup from my previous iPhone? Will it delete in the cloud AND on the phone? or does it just delete from iCloud? or does it just delete from the phone? Someone please help!

You can delete the backup without any problem. Only the backup will be deleted from iCloud and nothing else will be deleted, so you can do it without worrying about losing data on iCloud or your devices

  • Iphoto 9.5 won't import photos from iPhoto 7.5.  Library will not update using the iPhoto library upgraded application.

iphoto 9.5 won't import photos from iPhoto 7.5.  Library will not update using the iPhoto library upgrader application.  Repeatedly says it can't locate photos even when told to cancel.  I think the photos in question are in Nikon RAW format.

iPhoto 9.5 immediately tries to "upgrade" my library using the upgrader.
iPhoto 9.5 asks you to run the upgrader to prepare the library for 9.5. It then will update the library to its format.
You need to do the following:
1 - go to your Applications/Utilities folder and double click on the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 application.
2 - select Choose Library, navigate to your iPhoto library, select it and let the upgrader do its thing.
3 - launch iPhoto 9.5 to open and finish the conversion of the library.

  • If I use home sharing, may I delete songs off my itunes or will that delete them off of all shared devices? For example, if songs are in my library from another family member that I do not want, can they be deleted without deleting them from theirs?

I have recently started home sharing with my family. I was wondering if I could delete music on my laptop's itunes or if because they are linked it would carry my actions over onto the other devices within home sharing. I don't want my itunes to be filled with my family members purchases, but would like to make sure that if I delete music on mine that it will not delete it for them as well.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
That depends what you mean. Deleting content from your library won't delete anything from anyone else's. The content you delete from your library will not be available for homesharing with others though.

  • Backup REPLACED my current library instead of RESTORING it...

I had something terrible happen. I had backed up images into my iPod in June 2006 using 'Backup'. since then, I had organized and added more picture files to my Aperture library. well, yesterday, I imported my pics that I had backed up on my iPod to Aperture. however, instead of letting me choose which images I wanted to add to my Aperture library, it REPLACED my current Aperture library with my June 2006 library! it completely overlapped it. now, everything I had organized and added since June 2006 has been wiped it seems. when using 'Backup' with iPhoto, it allows you the option to import which images you choose.
is this possible? could my pics be somewhere still on my hard drive? I mean, I never erased them. the whole method of 'Backup' I thought would have been to simply add everything into my Aperture library, not REPLACE it.
how can I go back and redo the process? how do I get the current library back instead of reorganizing my June 2006 library?

I have a similar problem to Seoul I created a vault of my existing library 2 months ago. Unfortunately some of the files in the library were deleted by mistake so I decided to restore those files.
Now by this time my library had grown by a couple of hundred pictures which were not on the vault and creating a new vault would mean the missing files would be gone for ever.
I restored the old vault thinking that it would just update those folders it saved. On the very sparse dialogue it does not say it will delete the library just replace. It offered no options like which folders shall I restore just the one option. I tried to restore it to my desktop thinking that would be safer but it would not accept any other option apart from aperture library.aplibrary. I pressed the button and alas my pictures were gone.
Now when you consider that this product is designed for photographers not Data Base specialists this is a bit rich. There are Mickey Mouse products out there running on Apple where it is really hard to delete anything without going through several "Yes I really do want to delete this" screens. Yet this product due to really bad design and awful documentation has succeeded in zapping my latest master pieces.
I am now at the point where unless I can find these pictures I will not be using this product again which saddens me as I felt it was heading in the right direction.
Any help or jokes would be appreciated.

  • Itunes Match: iTunes will match songs in library, will not upload songs not in library. It

Itunes match is going through the endless 3 step cycle for several days now. It will match songs that are in the Itunes Library, it will not upload any songs that are not "matched"
I have tried alot of solutions, turn off match, turn back on, deauthorize, authorize, reboot, exit itunes, delete songs, add songs, turn off auto renew, plug in ethernet, wifi, basically anything posted on here.
Anyones help would be greatly appreciated. Ive been an Apple customer for decades, and this is one of the times where I am greatly disappointed. Thanks.

Yes, itunes just sets a pointer to the Windows files in its ITL database.http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1660
If you have itunes preference to copy files to your itunes music folder, then it does copy them there and you might now have two copies of the same song. But itunes will probably be using the copy in the itunes music folder.
This section of this article might explain it better

  • Itunes song will not delete and I can't edit the info

I added some songs to itunes 9 and now i want to delete one of them. I tried using delete, right-click delete, and edit delete. The window that asks if i'm sure I want to delete the song from the library doesn't even pop up. It's like the song isn't even there. It still played when I clicked on it but I can't edit the info either. I'm unable to click on the info boxes and the tabs for lyrics and artwork are grey. Then I realized I should just delete the actual file from the folder. That deleted from the trash but now the song says it can't locate the file and I have an exclamation mark next to the song name and it still won't delete. I have over 5,000 other songs and have never encountered this problem. I've deleted other songs since using itunes 9 and it has been fine. Is there something wrong with the song file? Please help!

I'm having this problem too. It does not seem to be a permissions issue. I have found so far that restarting iTunes will allow me to edit a song I have previously been unable to edit.
This is happening with iTunes 9.0.1 (9) I can't say for sure that it wasn't happening under 9.0 - but I didn't notice it then.
I find that songs are uneditable after they have been downloaded to iTunes. Not all songs, just some, on an unpredictable basis. I don't know if there are other older songs with the same problem, or whether it's just new downloads that are being affected.
I've also noticed that it's impossible to delete one of these songs from a playlist.
So - in summary : Download an album ... 2 or 3 songs on the album will be impossible to edit (song info) and impossible to delete from a playlist ... restarting iTunes allows them to be edited ...
    It's a really odd one.

  • How can I recover a iTunes backup that was deleted/replaced?

I recently did the iOS6 update from my computer. I plugged up my phone to iTunes and it downloaded the software and backed up my phone just fine no problems. Somehow my phone didn't restore with everything like it should of, but I wasn't worried because I knew I backed it up to my computer and it even had the date and time in the Preference selection of iTunes. Well I decided to go to the Apple store since I was on my way to the mall and just let them restore from backup, why did I do that SMH......The guy at the store decides to back my phone up again, which he is backing up my phone which has NOTHING on it, I mean NOTHING. So the NOTHING backup replaced the backup that actually had everything on it. I AM PISSEDDD, I lost everything. And I hadn't backed my phone up to iCloud because I don't have wi-fi. At this point I just need all my stuff back, and I don't know what I could do. HELPPPPP!!!

If you were using OSX 10.7 then you could go back to a previous version, but you have overwritten the file.

  • I cannoy download the latest version of Itunes it will not upgrade from the current version

I cannot upgrade my current version of Itunes to the current version Is there any help available?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
The error hints at a similar pattern to those discussed in the first and third boxes of the user tip, suggesting that you've got an outdated .dll file that needs replacing. You should find CoreMedia.dll in the one of the following folders:
         C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support
         C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support
Delete it and then repair Apple Mobile Device Support from the Programs and Features control panel. If that doesn't work go for the full tear down and rebuild.

  • Old photobooth library from macbook pro replaced new photobooth library

I had a Macbook pro before, and switched to a macbook air 6 months ago.
I took a photo today on Photobooth, and when I went to see it, a popup window (don't recall what it said) came up and asked if I want to store into a specific folder. (Can't remember what it said verbatim).
Photobooth opens but my macbook air photobooth library has been replaced by my old macbook pro photobooth library.
The photos I took today were really important, and I am wondering if there is any way to retrieve them.

iamrachelx wrote:... if there is any way to retrieve them.
Maybe.  Because you don't know what was said or what you did (exactly), this will be trial and error.
    (1) try making another image and see if saving that one gives you a clue as to where the previous ones went.
    (2) Control-Click on your User/Pictures/Photo Booth Library folder and select "Show package Contents."
You may find your images in one of the folders there.  If you do, DO NOT MOVE THEM.
Instead, Option-Drag the ones you want to work on to another folder to get a copy you can use.

  • ITunes folder will not delete. When I moved my iTunes folder from my old computer to new, I placed the iTunes folder temporarily in my Dropbox folder so I could cut and paste it into the new computer's music folder. Now I can't delete that folder.

iTunes will not update my podcasts. When I click refresh, I get the circling arrows but after an hour it hasn't updated the available podcasts on those I'm subscribed to. I don't know if this is related to the issue I'm having with iTunes store and Besecure, guessing it may be. All the workarounds I've seen on these communities for fixing the Bsecure and iTunes issue are far too complicated for me, a computer simpleton. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, provided all the media is inside the iTunes Media folder, which is in turn inside the main iTunes folder (which is the standard arrangement) you should be able to move the iTunes folder from <User's Music> to any other path and shift-start-Tunes (option-start-iTunes on a Mac) to reconnect to it.
If the media folder has split out to another drive in the past, or media is stored outside of the iTunes Media folder, then things get a bit more complicated. I can go into details should it be necessary.
