HT1670 Synching Address Book to Entourage

This looks so easy, and I did all the things you suggested (i.e. Entourage will synch by combining etc.), but nothing happens -- none of my address book contacts are in Entourage. I've restarted my computer too. advice??

Yes, I have updated. We are using the latest 11.2.6 version of Office 2004.
I am not on a
network - are you? Could that be the reason why?
We are using a small network. But, that should not affect the menu options you have. It's possible that they may have moved some of the options around in the latest versions though. Perhaps you would see the options after you updated.
You should get the updates anyway. You would need to get the 11.2.5 update (which includes all the updates up to 11.2.5) and then the smaller 11.2.6 update (which requires 11.2.5 to install).
These updates fix a number of security problems. Apparently they close holes in Microsoft's Office that provide remote hackers with an open door to your computer. So, you should get those updates.

Forcing Sync Between Address Book and Entourage

I use Apple Address Book and Entourage on a Powerbook Pro running Leopard. I have al of the latest updates.
Sometimes, when I make updates to info in a contact record in Apple Address Book, the updated info appears in Entourage within a few seconds. Sometimes, it can take minutes.
Is there anyway to force an update in Entourage so that as soon as I go back into Entourage, I can force the update and the updated record is there? I know that I can turn off synch, turn synch back on, etc., but is there some other way/ shortcut to force an update of Entourage contacts once I make a change in a contact record in Apple Address Book?

Try this.
With the Address Book and Entourage launched and positioned so each is partially visible and the Entourage Address Book selected, select a contact in the Address Book "All" Group and at the menu bar, go to Edit > Select All. Click and drag the highlighted contacts from the Address Book to the Entourage Address Book window which should copy the Address Book contacts to the Entourage Address Book.
You can do the same with selected contacts only if you don't want to export all.

Import Address Book into Entourage

I posted a question before about a problem with Mail and Exchange/Outlook. In doing some additional research it appears I can solve my problem by using Entourage.
Now I have to try and export the addresses in the Apple Address Book into Entourage. It appears Apple Address Book will not export in a comma delimited format and Entourage will not import vCards.
Any suggestions?

This was posted in MacFixIt and it works perfectly:
Entourage addresses into Address Book:
1. Create a new desktop folder. Name it anything you want, but v-card would be appropriate, because that's what you will be creating.
2. Open Entourage's Addresses and select the ones that you want to bring over.
3. Drag these addresses into the v-card folder.
4. Drag the v-card folder into the Name field of Apple's Address Book. You can safely trash the folder after you are finished.
Apple addresses to Entourage:
1. In Apple's Address Book, select the addresses that you want to export to Entourage.
2. Open Entourage Address Book and drag those addresses into Entourage Address Book. If you are exporting multiple addresses, hold Option while you do this, otherwise only the topmost address will be exported and you'll have to do it one-by-one.
These methods are not perfect. You may find some minor errors, such as a Home email coming across as Work, but otherwise you'll get everything.

Fixed this. I made each server individually searchable by my Galaxy. Now I have three accounts that I can combine and scan as one or examine each individually. Very simple. Wish the Galaxy came with a real guidebook, not the flimsy piece of nothing that Sprint gives out. Live and learn.

Thanks for the reply Julian, but I tried that and the only cards that show up in that "contacts" folder are the ones that come with the iPod: ipodcreatedsample.vcf and 2 others.
I brought this to the genius bar at my local Apple store, and they couldn't figure out how to do it, so this one is definitely a challenge. The genius bar advice was: "try to find a solution online." Aaack.

Does anyone know how to import the address book from entourage?
I have had major problems with entourage - and I have decided to use .mail.
I have managed to get the email accounts transfered, but I can't figure out how to get the address book.
This is about 15 years of acquiring address, so, it would be a major thing to manually do this, not to mention that I can't find an address book in .mail
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks - I moved the addresses, it wouldn't let me move the groups, but at least I have the major addresses.
One thing that would make .mail better is to be able to do a search on it for an old email that you now need. I hope that comes out with the new osx software.

How do I synch an iPhone 5 running version 6.1 OS with the ADDRESS BOOK on an iMac running Snow Leopard OSX 10.7.5? If I enter a new contact in my Address Book on either the iPhone or iMac, that new entry does not appear in the other, nor in the iCloud. I am running the latest version of iTunes. I have tried synching by WIFI and by cable and by turning the iCloud storage backup on the iPhone on and off.

How can I move address book information between Address Book and Entourage?

(I have the same question regarding iCal and Entourage.) I have a lot of important information to enter, info that would be very difficult to relocate. I had some problems with iCal awhile back (it started randomly deleting events), so I am trying to figure out which program(s) to use. Since I don't have much experience with these, I would ideally like to be able to start in Entourage since that program seems better laid out for me, but be able to export the information to Address Book and iCal so I can make use of the Address Book widget feature, etc.
Is it realistically possible to export from Entourage into AB and iCal and how do you it?
Also, I have a first generation iPod, and just got an iPod Touch so that I could have access to this information on the go, along with the rather lame "notes" approach to entering information (while I hope for a free upgrade that will allow me to edit my calendar). So I am also trying to figure out:
How do I export Entourage information onto my iPod Touch? Can it be done directly easily now or does it need to go through AB and iCal?

Whoever told you that was incorrect, as far as I am concerned. Firefox still is more customizable that the "competition", but not as much as previous versions were.
The Home button can be moved, but the Back / Forward combo button is attached to the Address Bar - they can't be separated.

The text and the progress bar on the left were messed up, the "synch now" button was greyed out, and periodically the spinning ball appears when the cursor is in the systems preferences window.
After many tries and 15 minutes, suddenly the synch window cleaned up and I was able to synch the address book successfully.
Anybody know how to solve this problem?

Outlook Express address book to Entourage

Changing from a PC to a MacBook Pro - Is there any way I can export my PC Outlook Express address book to my MacBook Pro? I am using Entourage and would like to have my address book exported rather than having to type everything. Is this possible or do I have a lot of typing to do?

've exported the address books into a variety of file types within the iMac: ldif, html, xls, (comma separated) rtf, txt and and none of those file types will import into either Entourage or Apple Mail on my G4. I've been racking my brain for weeks on this trying to find some conversion software or format to easily get these addresses into my Mail applications without having to tediously enter in each one by one.
Address Book (note that Address Book is the Apple utility for managing your contacts - Mail makes use of it) should be able to import either comma separated or tab separated text files. For the former the extension must be .csv and for the latter .txt.
Tab-separated (or delimited if you prefer) is often better, as addresses may have a comma in them.

Synching address Book groups on shared Imac

I share an Imac with my wife, and the rest of my family have Macbooks. Whe we bought Iphones, I tried to segregate our contacts into separate groups within Address book. Unfortunately, When we sync, many contacts get overwritten ( I thought it happened when we had the same contacts, but it's worse than that). In addition to getting overwritten, they sometimes mysteriously disappear.
I tried subscribing to MobileMe, but this hasnt solved the problem.
I know that creating separate users on the Imac might work, but frankly, this would create more problems for me than they would solve.
What is the best solution for me? Should I drop address book from one of us and use something like Gmail contacts? Would that make synching problematic?
I've tried technical support, but they weren't helpful. I'm at my wits end. Please Help!

I'm having a similar issue all of a sudden. For me, my groups are showing up on both my iPad and my iPhone, but I only have the option to choose all contacts on my iMac Address Book and up on my mobile me. I have over 500 contacts and really don't relish the idea of recreating those groups? I can't figure out why they all wouldn't be syncing the exact same way? They always have.
If I figure it out I'll share, but someone help us?!

What is the easiest way to transfer/import a contact list from my PC (MS Outlook) to my new Mac (MS Entourage or Address Book)

So in regards to this issue, what's the best way of getting photos assigned to contacts when using an Exchange server. I have a bunch of contacts stored locally on my Mac address book which I had since copied over into the Exchange server. You state I can only assign photos from within the iPhone. So what's the best way to get a photo on the Mac to the iPhone. Do I get photos into the iPhoto, sync my iPhone with my Mac, and then go to the iPhone and manually add the photos to contacts one a time? Is there a faster/better way?
