HT1688 Activation server can not be reached while updating my iPhone software.
Why is my phone not activating the new 7 software on an iphone 4s.
Here is part of the message I have beengetting...
Activation server can not be reached while updating my iPhone software.
Restart the iPhone.
Try another means of reaching the activation server and attempt to activate.
Try connecting to a known-good Wi-Fi network if you're unable to activate using a cellular data connection.
Try connecting to iTunes if you're unable to activate using Wi-Fi.
Restore the iPhone.
If you receive an alert message when you attempt to activate your iPhone, try to place the iPhone in recovery mode and perform a restore. If you're still unable to complete the setup assistant due to an activation error, contact Apple for assistance.

Too many people are flooding Apple's servers, everyone is having this issue, try every so often, or wait until tomorrow.

how do i fix this problem
Just have to give it some time. The activation and verification servers are all slammed right now 'cause of all the people trying to update at the same time. Give it a couple hours (or overnight if you can wait) and it should sort itself out.

I restored phone, and it still doesnt show any settings,aps etc, and it started like it was going to let me set it up, went thru English, United states, then Wifi, entered wifi info and then it says please wait while we activate and then it goes back to saying can not activate or activation server could not be reached, the diagnostics i run on it while synced with the computer comes back fine that it detects phone,etc. What can i do now?
YOu should ask your family friend. The message you get about activation server being unvailable usually indicates a hacked or jailbroken phone.
only the carrier that the phone is locked to can unlock the phone. -
i've had a 4s for two years and today when i turned it on it told me my phone could not be activated becasue the activation server could not be reached. what should i do? i'm lost.
i do not know what this means. I purchased the phone brand new two years ago and have never had any problems with it. The message i am getting reads:
"your iphone could not be activated because the activation server cannot be reached. try connecting your iphone to itunes (which i don't have) to activate it, or try again over cellular connection in a couple minutes. It won't let me set up my phone due to the wifi- it keeps coming up with "Your iPhone could not be activated because the activation server could not be reached". The wifi is definitely working- I'm using it now! However, after you have entered the password for this wifi you do have to enter details into a portal but this hasn't popped up so I can't do it. 3 possible causes for this message:
1] activation server is actually down. Extremely rare occurrence and of very short duration
if it happens.
2] iPhone is jailbroken or hacked.
3] computer the iPhone is hooked to has been used to jailbreak or hack iOS devices.
For 1], try again. Try different wifi at friend's, school, public place like Starbucks or McDonalds.
For 2] & 3], you are on your own. Google may provide some insight. Terms of Use for this

Trying to activate a new iPad mini. Keep getting message that activation server can't be reached and to try through iTunes. I can't go back beyond the language choice screen to select iTunes. Two days of trying to activate. Help?
Apple's download AND activation servers are being stressed today with all the downloads/activations. It might be best to wait and try later.

Try:
- Powering off and then back on your router.
- iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
- Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
Public DNS — Google Developers
OpenDNS IP Addresses
- For one user uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes resolved the problem
- Try on another computer/network
- Wait if it is an Apple problem

Try doing a hard reset on the phone;
1. Hold Home and Sleep/Wake buttons at the same time;
2. Wait for the Apple logo to appear (ignore the slide to Power Off option)
3. Let go of the buttons when you see Apple on the screen
4. Allow iPhone to reboot;
If you are still unable to get the phone to power on, charge, or connect to iTunes; it could possibly require service. (hardware replacement) -
