HT1688 I'm trying to activate my Touch ID.

I've followed the directions AT&T provided me when I bought my 5S. They read as follows:
Touch
Setting
General
Touch ID & Passcode
Touch ID
At this point nothing happens.  The Touch ID only shows an arrow pointing to the right.
Do I need to activate or deactivate something to access the Touch IC?

Yes.
Click that arrow that points to the right after "Touch ID".  Toward the bottom, you will see "Fingerprints ... Add a Fingerprint".

It sounds like you essentially have a new computer and unless you restored from a backup your iTunes library would be empty.  You can transfer your iTunes purchases from your iPod to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
SInce you changed syncing computers. after you move the stuff you need to restore the iPod to factory defaults and sync the stuff back to your iPod.  If you had the iPod backup file you could restore from backup.
If you have non-iTunes pruchases you can copy them to your computer by using one of the third-party programs discussed in this previous discussion:

  • I bought a iphone 5s from gumtree. While trying to activate it i realised there was an account linked to it through an apple id. it doesnt say the phone is in lost mode and it still has warranty. am i able to get a fix from apple?

i bought a iphone 5s from gumtree. While trying to activate it i realised there was an account linked to it through an apple id. it doesnt say the phone is in lost mode and it still has warranty. am i able to get a fix from apple?

    unfortunately - no
if the device is on ios 7.1 or above there's two things.
    1) the device may be restored to factory settings - but the phone can't be activated. imei unlock is different to Iphone activatio. - your friend unlocked it to use any sim in any country. iOS 7 forces you to restore the phone and reimpit the original icloud login. This can only be solved if you a)forgot the login/changed  it, and can prove to apple youre the owner; b) to get the original owner to deauthorize his account associated with the phone, on his/her computer.
2)if there's also a Passcode lock on the phone, and the last registered sim doesn't work (in the case of a stolen phone) - then it's impossible for you to do anything, full security = restore will lead to activation lock immediately. There's no bypass to it, the fake videos online only allow a bypass if the device was a 'jailbrokem' one - which would invalidate apple trying/ever wanting to help you.
if you know who the phone belonged to previously (usually comes up with the icloud username on it) then you can ask them to deactivate it.
otherwise, you have what we call - a brickb- won't even work as a super iPod touch
my iphone was stolen on sat in prague - white, 32 gb iphone 5 - if it's mine, I'll have it back please   just incase

  • ITunes cannot connect to the store, nor can I activate my Touch.

My iTunes hasn't been able to connect to the store EVER on this machine. Naturally, without a functioning iPod or iPhone, this hasn't bothered me. Of course, now that I've got a touch, it's a little annoying.
I can't activate my touch, and I can't get at my purchases.
Here is the log from the diagnostic. I have tried flushing the DNS cache, I do not run a firewall, I have reinstalled iTunes (wiping it's registry details as I went), I have activated port forwarding on my router to some port I saw suggested. Please help!

SO we rule out Winsock provider issue.
Can you try these entries in command prompt (Run as Administrator for Win7/Vista) one at a time?
    ipconfig /release
    then
    ipconfig /renew
    restart computer
    ipconfig /flushdns
totally shut down computer then restart.
    netsh winsock reset all
    restart computer
Now test your iTunes again. If that does not work, uninstall your Antivirus program and test again.

  • I am trying to activate root account on my MAC.  The directions I've seen do not match what is in System Preference for Accounts or Users

I am trying to activate the root account on my new Mac Book Pro.  The instructions that I have found do not match what I have in System Preferences.  What is the process when using Users and Groups.  When I click on Join the Network Account Server- Open Directory Utility I don't see a option to  activate root user as the instructions say at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1528
    OS X Lion
From the Apple menu choose System Preferences....
From the View menu choose Users & Groups.
Click the lock and authenticate as an administrator account.
    Click Login Options....
Click the "Edit..." or "Join..." button at the bottom right.
Click the "Open Directory Utility..." button.
Click the lock in the Directory Utility window.
Enter an administrator account name and password, then click OK.
Choose Enable Root User from the Edit menu.
Enter the root password you wish to use in both the Password and Verify fields, then click OK.

Do you mean you cannot select "Enable Root User" from the "Edit" menu as shown below?
Why do you think you need to enable the root user? I've never needed it in the history of OS X.

  • I have had my IPAD2 for quite a while but haven't activated my cellular data for about a year.  I am now trying to activate and when I go to cellular data, turn it on and try to tap view account i just get a message that says "connection to server lost".

I have had my IPAD2 for quite a while but haven't activated my cellular data for about a year.  I am now trying to activate and when I go to cellular data, turn it on and try to tap view account i just get a message that says "connection to server lost".  I could swear the last time I used cellular data you would see the signal in the upper left corner and I only see "no service" there, I am in a location where I know I should have service.  Is there something I should do to my IPAD?  I tried resetting, I tried clearing cookies and history in Safari (after reading a post n these discussions).  I don't know what to do next. My IOS version is 6.1.3.  I did go into Network from the general tab and I see it says "SIM not provisioned".    HELP and Thank you in advance.

    Hello Theresa818,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like the cellular data will not activate for some reason on the iPad.
I found this article that will help you resolve this issue here, named iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular Models): Troubleshooting a cellular data connection, found here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4249
Check for a carrier settings update.
    Update your iPad.
Toggle the Cellular Data setting off and on under Settings > Cellular Data.
    Restart your iPad.
Tap Settings > General > About. Locate the Carrier entry and make sure that your carrier is correct.
If your SIM card has SIM PIN enabled, try turning it off: Tap Settings > Cellular Data > SIM PIN.
Make sure you're in an area of good coverage. If the cellular data connection works in another area, contact your carrier to report the original affected area.
Reset network settings: Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
    Restore the iPad as new.
If none of the above steps resolves the issue, make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store, contact your carrier, or contact AppleCare to troubleshoot further.
I know you may have done one or two of the steps here, so you can skip those.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • BW3.5: Error message when trying to activate the transfer rule

When I was trying to activate the transfer rule for one info object( charateristic with master data) , I got the following error  in [[  ]]

    System response
The action was terminated. No data was changed.
    Procedure
Use the generation log in source system CI2220 to identify the error, and remove the cause.
CI2220 is the backend R/3 system, I had no issue in replicating the data source etc. this error occurred while trying to activate the transfer rule after assigning the info source to the replicated datasource in BW.
Can anybody tell me how to view( what transaction etc) the generation log to understand the issue?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Roberto,
Thanks for yoyur prompt reply, I would try to follow the instruction, but at the same time please note that previously we had no issue in activating the transfer structure. • Trying to activate my iphone 5. when connected to itunes its says i need version 10.7. but when i try to update, it says that im current at 10.6.3.

trying to activate my iphone 5. when connected to itunes its says i need version 10.7. but when i try to update, it says that im current at 10.6.3.

iTunes version 10.7 requires at least Mac OS X version 10.6.8 if you're running a Mac, or Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later if you're running Windows.
Is your computer up-to-date enough for iTunes 10.7?

  • I tried to update my iphone 4 but it just reset and when I tried to activate it, it won't let me.

I was updating my iphone 4 with itunes, and it suddenly stopped and the message
'We're sorry, we are unable to continue with your activation at this time.
Please try again later, or contact customer care.'
popped up in the itunes screen.
I was at the stage when the apple logo was on the screen and the bar was loading.
My iphone does not have a SIM card because this is my mom's old phone, and she is using the SIM card with her galaxy note 2.
I turned on my iphone, and it was on the 'set up' stage.
Since I backed it up today, I tried to activate it.
but when I got past the stage with the Wifi, and it said it was activating, the same message popped up again. That message is also still in the itunes' iphone page.(itunes is working normally but when I click the iphone tab that message shows up. I can go back to itunes)
So, I can't restore, use the backup, or do anything using itunes except charging it. itunes still recognises my iphone.
I can restart my iphone. I already restarted my iphone and my computer, bur it still doesn't work.
How can I restart it? Or am  I just stupid and I need to put the SIM card back and try it again?

You can't activate any GSM iPhone without a valid sim card installed in the phone.
So, yes, you need to get a sim card.

I got an iPad mini from a friend who is now passed away and I'm trying to activate it using my Apple ID but it won't let me because I have to contact the previous owner, what do I do!?

Take it, the original purchase receipt, and the friend's death certificate to a physical Apple Store and see what they say.
