If you are in the US, you cannot purchase an iphone directly from Apple without an AT&T contract. If you want to purchase a no commitment/no contract iphone, you will have to purchase such directly from AT&T. However, the phone will have to be activated on AT&T's network before you can do anything with it. AT&T will require that you establish a post paid account at a minimum.

I bought a Iphone4 on three UK network but never activated it as I bought it as a present. However I requested three to unlock the phone and for a charge of £15.00 they said they have sent an unlocking request and I have received a text message the following day to confirm the unlocking request is successfully processed.
My question is that do I still have to activate the iphone on three or can the person in abroad who gets this as a present activate the phone with a foreign SIM in the country. The reason I dont want to activate with three sim is that it is being given as a present and I would rather prefer to give it in a selaed box unused and brand new condition.
Hope some one has a answer to this question as apple technical support could not give a answer to this..Agree, let people now. If there is cheap solution <edited by host> .

I was sold a phone which has a previous owner. Although when they sold it to me, they said it was already activitated, but had no battery..Now that I charged it and tried to connect it with my iTunes it said I must enter the previous owner iCloud of which I am unware of. So now, it's not even activated. I am not planning on connecting the phone, just use it for games, music and such. But I can't activate it. HELP.

It all depends on how it was unlocked. If it wasn't by the carrier and/or wasn't purchased as unlocked directly from Apple (in other words, it was unlocked by hacking) you are out of luck, at least as far as an Apple forum is concerned.

Do you have access to your developer account? You are running a beta version on your iPhone and will need to fix it through that site. If you are not a developer but were legitimately beta testing for someone you need to contact them for a fix.
If you are using an unauthorized beta you need to put your iPhone in DFU mode and Restore it as a new iPhone in iTunes and hope it works. -
trying to activate my iphone 5. when connected to itunes its says i need version 10.7. but when i try to update, it says that im current at 10.6.3.
iTunes version 10.7 requires at least Mac OS X version 10.6.8 if you're running a Mac, or Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later if you're running Windows.
Is your computer up-to-date enough for iTunes 10.7? -
